The JGT Power Rankings

power_girl_1A lot of upsets last week makes for a lot of movement up and down the rankings. (If you are proud of your team’s ranking among the nerd power elite? Post “like” below to let the world know.)

  1. Steak Em Up. 3 wins last week puts Steak Em Up miles ahead of everyone else. We’ll see if a Bounty Tuesday night brings more competition to the Bards.Last week: #1
  2. The Jams. Rarely does a loss move you up in the rankings, but the fact is that out of the top 6 teams, everyone lost except the Steak. At least the Jams lost in overtime. Last week: #3
  3. Duane’s World. A rough week for the World (One 2nd, two 3rds, all by less than a question) would have been worse if more top teams hadn’t fallen this week. Last week: #2
  4. Tooth Wind and Fire. Being idle pays off, as Tooth Wind and Fire keeps the #4 slot by standing still. Last week: #4
  5. Look Up, Look Down, Now I’m a Horse. Continue to climb the ranks of the elite with a big win at Black Sheep on Wednesday. Last week: #7
  6. Inglorious Barristers. Finally get that elusive first win, and with it, an entrance into the Power Rankings. Last week: NR
  7. Why Can’t Us. Shocking upset at Ugly American. Will they be able to repeat and move up the ranks without Audra? Last week: NR
  8. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. For the first time ever, they fall out of the top 3 at the Ugly American, and continue their slide from the top. Last week: #5
  9. 4th Estate. Come up a mere two points shy of a win at Black Sheep, and sneak into the power rankings. Last week: NR
  10. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. 8 straight 2nd Place finishes is, in some, ways, even more impressive than 8 straight wins. Last week: #10

Other receiving votes: Catdog, Magnus ver Magnusson, The Four Cs, The Awesomes, the Sandy Faux Ginas, Lambda, Same Name as Last Week, The Savage Ear, The Champs, 1022

JGT Quizzo Power Rankings

powerranks

  1. Steak Em Up. They have the Bards on lockdown. Not too long ago, the Jams had the Vous on lockdown, then some serious competitors rolled into town to change the dynamics. Does anyone have the guts to step to the Steak? Last week: #1
  2. Duane’s World. 2nd at Westbury, 3rd at Black Sheep wasn’t enough to keep their top position, but sister squad Eschaton’s win by 40 at UA keeps them in 2nd. Last week: #2
  3. The Jams. A stunning 116 in a very difficult quiz rockets them up the charts. Last week: #6
  4. Tooth Wind and Fire. Back to Back Jacks at O’Neals. The only thing that can slow them down is the Flyers. (O’Neals cancelled tomorrow night for friggin’ hockey.) Last week: NR
  5. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. They take their show on the road, but it doesn’t pay off: they finish 3rd at O’Neals. Last week: #3
  6. Catdog. 2nd win in three weeks at Black Sheep. Catdog is angling to make a move into the Top 5. Last week: NR
  7. Look Up Look Down Now I’m a Horse. Continue to move up the charts with another 2nd place finish, this time at Black Sheep. Last week: #10
  8. Magnus ver Magnusson. Out of the money  at the Vous drops them all the way down to the 8th spot. Last week: #4
  9. The Savage Ear. Slip sliding away. They were #3 two short weeks ago, but haven’t made the top 3 in either of the last two weeks. Last week: #7
  10. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. I’m fairly certain that the Dante’s 8th level of Hell is a quizzo game where the same team finishes in 2nd place every single week. Last week:#9

Others receiving votes: Why Can’t Us, Lambda, Team Friendship, Unusual Suspects, The Champs, The Four Cs, 1022

The Power Rankings

powerrangersAn extremely topsy turvy week with only one top team emerging unscathed.

  1. Steak Em Up. With two wins and a Diabetic loss, they regain the top spot. Last week: #2
  2. Duane’s World. A win at Black Sheep puts them in the #2 spot, though a 3rd place finish at Westbury indicates that they aren’t a serious threat for #1 at this point. Last week: #5
  3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Would have fallen softly into the #2 spot, but a crushing 15 point loss drops them a few decimal points behind Duane’s World. Last week: #1
  4. Magnus ver Magnusson. Knock off the toughest competition on the circuit to get back on the board. Last week: NR
  5. The Champs. Decimate the Diabetics at the Ugly American. Can they repeat, or were they only in it for the money? Last week: NR
  6. The Jams. A number two finish at the Vous knocks them back a few paces. Last week: #4
  7. The Savage Ear. Ouch! What a difference a week makes. One minute they’re #3 on the circuit, the next minute they can’t finish in the top 3 at O’Neals. Last week: #3
  8. The Four Cs. An impressive win at the Westbury over two high quality teams puts the Four Cs in the power rankings for the first time. Last week: NR
  9. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. If you like the movie Groundhogs Day, come to the Bards on a Tuesday and watch a team live it. ND, 2nd place again. Last week: #8
  10. Look Up Look Down Now I’m a Horse. Another 2nd place, finish, the horses are starting to make a name for themselves on Thursday nights at the Bards. Last week: #10

Others receiving votes: Lambda, Catdog, Same Name as Last Week, Team Friendship, Unusual Suspects, the 4th Estate, The Sandy Faux-Ginas, Inglorious Barristers

JGT Power Rankings

powerranks1

How to rank them this week, with a Superteam running amok at Bards last week? The JGTPR computer came back with some interesting results.

  1. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Knock off a packed house at Ugly American last week. Their 6th straight win raises the Bounty to $25 this Thursday. Last week: #2
  2. Steak Em Up. They barely win on Thursday to hold onto their top spot, but their refusal to participate in a postgame chug-off drops them from the top spot.  Last week #1.
  3. The Savage Ear. Continue to be the class of O’Neals. But with a higher purse bound to attract larger crowds, can they hold onto their power? Last week: #5
  4. The Jams. Miss a perfect score by one question in the first round by not listening to Darth Ern and finish with a 118. But can they pull away from a tough pack at our most challenging bar? Last week: #7
  5. Duane’s World: A nice win at the Westbury over Group W, but two losses by less than one question at Black Sheep and Ugly American. Last week: #4
  6. Catdog: Rocket up the charts with a big win at Black Sheep. Last week: #10
  7. Lambda: Take a week off and, due to some impressive performances elsewhere, plummet in the standings. Last week: #3
  8. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion: If 2nd Place was the new black, the Dysfunktion would be the sexiest team in quizzo. Last week: #6
  9. Inglorious Barristers. Four 2nd place finishes and three 3rd Place finishes in the last ten weeks without ever pulling off a single win. Gotta award consistency. Last week: NR
  10. Look Up Look Down Now I’m a Horse. Take Steak Em Up to the brink on Thursday night, then challenged the Steak to a Chug off for all the marbles. (Steak Em Up declined.) Moxie is always rewarded in the power rankings. Last week: NR

Others receiving votes: Where’s John’s Rum; Dalembert Report; 1022; Phillie RNs; Magnus ver Magnusson; Plastic Paddies

  1. Steak Em Up. Sort of weird week for them, as they played under three different names, but at least two members of what is now a glorified posse were in each win (including one at Westbury), so we’ll give them the benfit of the doubt. Three wins in a week propels them to #1. Last week: #3
  2. L. Ron Hubbard. Another week, another win, but perhaps they need to double up another one of these weeks like they did last week to get back in the top spot. Last week: #1
  3. Lambda. A two man win at the Vous, followed by a one man 2nd place finish at the UA. Yeah, Steve-O is an 80s freak, but still, mighty impressive. Last week: #5
  4. Duane’s World. A second place finish at the Westbury and a 3rd place finish at the Black Sheep (and Eschaton’s 3rd at UA) drop the World two notches. Last week: #4
  5. The Savage Ear. Get a week off due to the Flyers game. A bye week helps them nurse their injuries and return stronger than ever. Last week #4
  6. The Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. A 110 would have won at any quiz last week…except Tuesday night at the Bards, where they lost to the Plastic Paddies by one. Last week #8
  7. The Jams. A second place finish at the competitive Vous is enough to maintain the #7 ranking. Last week: #7
  8. The Plastic Paddies. This team is at a crossroads. They can either declare themselves an autonomous entity free of Steak Em Up influence and become a major player in the game, or they continue to be sort of an offshoot republic still under the power of the Steak (in which case they won’t be back on the power rankings). There is some serious realpolitik going on here. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Last week: NR
  9. Supple Cowbell of Maury Buford. An incredible performance at Black Sheep this past Wednesday rockets Buford onto the top 10. The very rare one man win begs the question: what could they achieve with teammates? Last week: NR
  10. Catdog. Good news: they’re back in the top 10 w/ a 2nd place finish at Black Sheep. The bad news: they lost to a one man team. Last week: NR

Others receiving votes: Tooth Wind and Fire; Inglorious Barristers; The Champs; Magnus ver Magnusson; The Four Cs

The JGT Power Rankings

powerranksThey’re back for the first time since Quizzo Bowl. And with Lambda offering only a token defense of their title, they have quickly slid down the rankings. Furthermore, with a lot of interesting developments the past couple of weeks, they are rather surprising.

  1. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Simple: they’re the only team to go undefeated since Quizzo Bowl, and that includes a one point win over a stacked Steak Em Up team last Tuesday at Bards. Their 15th place finish at the Bowl, however, has numerous critics howling at this selection.
  2. Duane’s World. They’ve won 3 straight at Black Sheep, won at the Vous when Black Sheep cancelled for St. Pattie’s Day, and have won 2 of the first 4 at Westbury (yes, Mike’s quiz counts in the power rankings). In addition, their sister squad, Eschaton, finished 3rd at Quizzo Bowl and beat Steak Em Up two weeks ago. They’re on fire.
  3. Steak Em Up. Close but no cigar has been the name of the game for Steak Em Up since Quizzo Bowl. A one point loss Tuesday, an overtime loss last Thursday, and a two point loss the week before has people wondering if Steak Em Up has taken over Donovan’s role as official city choker.
  4. Savage Ear. With Where’s Jon’s Rum retiring from O’Neals quizzo and Lambda resting on their laurels, Savage Ear has rushed in to fill the power vacuum left by their departure. 3 wins in the last 4 weeks.
  5. Lambda. Yeah, they won Quizzo Bowl. Yawn. That was a month ago, and little has been seen of them since. Fishtown’s Finest are like a boxer who wins the title and then refuses to fight anybody for 10 months so they can still be called “Champ” when they go to the grocery store.
  6. Slicklizzard (aka the Champs) They’re baaaack. Nice to see the legendary Champs crew back on the scene. They’ve won twice at Ugly American on Monday and two weeks ago at the Rendezvous.
  7. The Jams. Speaking of the Rendezvous, hard to get a grip on ranking the teams there, as it is by far the most evenly matched bar. However the Jams are the only team to win more than once in the last 6 weeks, and they’ve been top 3 each of those weeks, so they get the nod.
  8. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. Really establishing themselves as Philly’s finest 2nd place teams. You have to wonder: if they got the whole team out instead of just three or four the last few weeks, would they winning these close games?
  9. Death Panel Killed Grandma. Come out of nowhere to pull off upset at the Vous this week. One week wonders, or real contenders on the scene?
  10. Magnus ver Magnusson. One win, one place, and one show in the past month has Magnus living large.

  1. Steak Em Up. Finally regain the top spot with a loss by L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Last week: #2
  2. Lambda Lambda Lambda. 5 straight wins at O’Neals and a win over the Diabetics at the Ugly American. These guys are serious about a three-peat. Last week: #3
  3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. 8 game win streak finally snapped. Still a Quizzo Bowl Dark Horse. Last week: #1
  4. This spot reserved for any team to knock off any of the top 3 this week. In the past few weeks, there have been three dominant teams. They are all listed above. Any team that knocks them off this week is guaranteed the #4 spot. Last week: NR
  5. Duane’s World. Are they getting hot at the right time? 2 wins in the last three weeks. Last week: #5
  6. The Jams. How to rank the teams at the Rendezvous? 5 winners in the last 6 weeks. What was once the Jams birthright is now the most competitive game in town. Jams hold down the #6 spot as the only team in the last 6 weeks to win twice. Last week: #4
  7. 1022. A thrilling win at the Rendezvous this week, this is a team on the rise at the right time. Last week: NR
  8. The Champs. Haven’t been on the winner’s podium much lately, but their 2 Quizzo Bowl wins and 3rd place finish last year earn them a Top 10 spot. Last week: NR
  9. Axis of Evil Knieval. A 2nd Place finish at the Bards keeps them in the 9 spot. Last week: #9
  10. The Unusual Suspects. Finish third at Black Sheep. This is the team we are personally rooting for at Quizzo Bowl. Why? Because they finished dead last in 2009. Would love to see the worst to first story become a reality. Last week: NR

The Power Rankings

powerranks

  1.  L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. 8 straight wins at the Ugly American. Can a team that tied for 6th at last year’s Bowl make a real run at the title this year?
  2. Steak Em Up. Continue to dominate at the Bards. Will the fact that they will have Garbo at this year’s Quizzo Bowl mean a 2nd win for the Steaks (aka the Kingdom). God, we hope not.
  3. Lambda Lambda Lambda. If Pat Riley hadn’t patented the word Three-peat, the two time defending champs would be in line at the patent office right now. 4 straight wins at O’Neals, but they did lose to the Diabetics on Thursday.
  4. The Jams. Fighting tougher competition on a weekly basis than the 3 top teams, a very rare out of the money finish this week for the Jams.
  5. Yak Rodeo. This is a team that has decided to flex their brains in the weeks leading up to Quizzo Bowl, and it paid off with a win at the Black Sheep this week.
  6. Duane’s World. A tempestuous few months for this crew. A win last week, out of the money this week the story of their year. Can they achieve some consistency before the Big Dance?
  7. The Ear. Keep finishing 2nd to Lambda. Jury is out on whether or not they will rep the home ‘hood at Quizzo Bowl.
  8. Deja Vous. An impressive win at the Vous. Unfortunately last year’s best dressed team will not be back this year due to a wedding.
  9. Axis of Evil Knieval. Take Steak Em Up to the wire on Thursday with only a 3 person team. Can they improve on last year’s 14th place finish?
  10. CatDog. Attending their first Quizzo Bowl this year, Duane’s World’s biggest nemesis aims to shock the world.

JGT Quizzo Power Rankings

computerThe JGT QPR computer was left out in the snow last week, and thus is only spitting out the top 5. We’ll be back up to a top 10 next week.

  1. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. 6 wins and counting at the Ugly American. Bounty is up to $20 this week. Last week: #2
  2. Steak Em Up. Just when you think they can’t sink any lower dignity wise, they combine forces with the Axis of Evil Knieval on Thursday. What’s next, a duo with the Jams? Perhaps see if Ken Jennings is free? Maybe bring in Stephen Hawking for any potential science questions? Last week: #1
  3. Lambda. Another win at O’Neals. This team seems to really be getting in shape for Quizzo Bowl, despite a 2nd place finish at the Bards on Thursday. Last week. #5
  4. The Jams. A bye week due to the snow. Last week: #4
  5. Ivan the Trivial. Once front runners at O’Neals, they are now playing catch up to Lambda.

The Power Rankings

Apple_iieThe QPR computer received an extensive upgrade this past week, and now is more powerful than ever. We are even able to save the rankings on floppy disk!

  1. Steak Em Up. Kenney defects to the Dysfunktion, who knock off the Steak, and yet they regain the top spot. The new computer apparently awards teams who play fair. Last week #2
  2. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. The Diabetics win their 5th in a row. Bounty Bowl this week! Last week: #1
  3. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. The addition of Kenney, if permanent, would probably mean that the Dysfunktion would become the best team at the Bards. Last week: NR
  4. The Jams. They maintain the 4th spot by a single point at the most competitive venue on the tour. Last week: #4
  5. Lambda. Are these guys in training for Quizzo Bowl? They have been starting to creep around O’Neals on Tuesday nights here and there, and scored an impressive 113 this past week.
  6. Unusual Suspects. A come from behind win at the Black Sheep, enabled by a perfect Round Four, lands them in the 6 spot. Last week: NR
  7. Ivan the Trivial. A 2nd place finish comes on a week that a lot of teams have big wins, thus dropping them 4 notches. Last week #3
  8. Quiz on Your Face. One point is the difference between a top 10 ranking and a Top 5 ranking. Last week: NR
  9. Catcher in the Rye. Perfect through three, this two man team answers 37 out of 40 questions correctly, but fall in the 4th to Unusual Suspects at Black Sheep. Last Week: NR
  10. Magnus ver Magnusson. Remain in the Top 10 with a third place finish. Another 3rd place this week and they’ll be in the “Also receiving votes” category. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Last week #8
