The JGT Power Rankings Return

1. Steak Em Up (City Tap House). Whatever.

2.  Duane’s World (Black Sheep). Six wins in the past eight weeks at Black Sheep, plus a 2nd place finish at the Invitational.

3.Sidecardigans (Sidecar). Four game winning streak finally stopped on Monday night.

4. The Jams (Locust Rendezvous). They’ve won 8 of the last 10 at the Vous, though they’ve lost those two matches in the past three weeks.

5. Mysterious Mr. Mapother (O’Neals). Recent run of 8 straight wins at O’Neals snapped last week. Can they return to the top, or was that just a mysteriously magical run?

6. Hooter and Chuff (Multiple). North Star. O’Neals. Rendezvous. They bounce around from bar to bar, but they always seem to end up in the money. A huge win for them last week at the Vous.

7. 407 Primrose Yellow Jackets (Ugly American). The team formerly known as the Diabetics have been fairly quiet lately, though they did get a win at Ugly American two weeks ago. They have the talent to make a run at the top, but do they have the heart and determination to do so? Stay tuned.

8. Underground Bard (City Tap House). Steak Em Up’s toughest consistent competition at City Tap House (Better Than Danny is also tough, but less consistent), they need to add a player or two to make a real run at the Steak.

9. Happy Birthday to the Ground (North Star). They’ve long been quizzos loudest team, but with two straight wins at North Star, they’re starting to look like a contender.

10. Clown Question Bro (Locust Rendezvous). If it wasn’t for the Jams, this team would be the talk of the town. Four 2nd Place finishes in the past 7 weeks. Can they finally get a win this week?

JGT Power Rankings

With the Summer Invitational kicking off this week, I thought it would do us some good to see who our top teams have been the past few weeks. This was tough to do. Except at the Bards, we’ve had incredible parity the past couple of months (6 winners in 7 weeks at UA, 5 straight different winners at O’Neals,

1. Steak Em Up. Nobody is even close. These guys are winning every week by 30 points. It’s getting ridiculous. Is there anyone out there who can put together a superteam to try to knock these guys off? There is a bounty on their heads at the Bards, where they’ve won the past 7 weeks. Anyone who beats them this week gets $20 from me as well as their $40 gift certificate. Come on, people, invite your damn smart friends out.

2. The Jams. The Jams are in the midst of one of the strangest streaks we’ve ever seen at quizzo. They’ve won every other week since April 14th. They lost last week, which means they’re due for a win this week.

3. Duane’s World. Also on a strange every other week streak. They’ve won every other week since May 11th. Wednesdays are weird. Regardless, still the team to beat at Black Sheep, although the 5th Estate took them out last week and Blaizng Sea Nuggets continue to be a thorn in their side.

4. Interim Team Name. These new kids on the block have made quite a name for themselves, winning twice in one week two weeks ago. Is this team ready for the big time or did they just hit a hot streak? We’ll see during the JGTSuI.

5. Dukes of Fire Hazzards. Knocked off the Jams a few weeks ago, then won at O’Neals last week. If only they could scrub that last place finish at Seinfeld quiz off their record.

6. The Sidecardigans. Have cooled off a bit lately, but recently sported a 4-week winning streak at Sidecar. The nerdiest staff in quizzo, I’ll put them up against any bar in the city.

7. Popesack Resurrected. Have made themselves scarce since their huge JGTSpI win in overtime, but did return long enough to notch a win at North Star last week.

8. FFSF. This team has nothing if not resilience. Each week, they come to City Tap House and fall to Steak Em Up, but always put up respectable scores that would make them winners at a lot of other bars. This team needs to make a free agent signing to get them over the top.

9. Mr. September. In the last three weeks, went from 3rd to 2nd to first at the Vous. An impressive climb to the top.

10. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Two 2nd place finishes in the last 3 weeks. This once perennial top 5 teams has fallen on hard times lately. They’re kind of the Phillies of quizzo. Once powerful and proud, but due to injuries just a shell of their former selves.

JGT Power Rankings Return

Ok, first time in a while. This is an overview of our best teams over the past month, really.

#1 Steak Em Up. A win this past week over 150 teams in Austin puts them at the top of the list. Of course, they’ve been dominating lately in Philly as well.

#2 Duane’s World. Nobody could knock off Steak Em Up in Austin, but one team did in Philly last week. A huge win for the World at Black Sheep, their 2nd in a row.

#3 The Jams. The Vous was pretty wide open for a while, but lately the Jams have been running s***. 5 wins in the last 6 weeks at the Vous, including 3  in a row.

#4 L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Another red hot team on the rise, the Diabetics have won 3 in a row at UA. Can they be stopped this week?

#5 Mister Lippers. A pretty big drop off from #4 to #5, but this team has the skills to make a move up the rankings this year. They’ve finished in the top 3 the past 3 weeks at O’Neals, including a win this past week.

#6 Some Douche Stole My Bike. Nobody hits more arenas than these guys. A win at Black Sheep 3 weeks ago. A win at North Star 4 weeks ago. A win at O’Neals 5 weeks ago. A 2nd place finish at UA two weeks ago, and a 3rd place finish there this past week. This could be the breakout team of 2012.

#7 Beer Goggles. These guys play under a bunch of different names at both CTH and Bards, and always seem to finish in the Top 3. They’re one nerd away from being a contender.

#8  Team Not in the Corner. I’m intrigued by these guys, a new addition to the scene. A win at O’Neals 3 weeks ago, and a 4-point loss this past week. They could be for real.

#9 Trivia Newton Jon. Quizzo veteran Palestra Jon is back…at least he was this past week, along with this daughter Sarah, who will be on College Jeopardy this Friday. They pulled off an impressive win at the Bards.

#10 Philliez Nutz. Give them credit for consistency. Until taking a week off this past week, they had finished 2nd to the Steak for three straight weeks.

The JGT Power Rankings Return

Ok, they’re back. Sorry I’ve been such a slacker the past few weeks, but this will get us caught up, and I’ll try to keep these going and in the future post them on Mondays. Standings are based primarily on performance over the past month.

1. Steak Em Up (City Tap and Bards). No surprise here. They’ve already won twice this week and have been on fire since their Autumn Invitational win. Nobody is even close.

2. Jams (Locust Rendezvous). Incredibly, we’ve had so much parity lately that only one team besides besides Steak Em Up has won more than once in the past 3 weeks. That team is the Jams, who have won two out of 3 at the Vous. Can they make it 3 of 4 tonight?

3. Mister Lippers (O’Neals). A dramatic come from behind win last night, making it 2 wins in the past month at O’Neals. They also teamed with the #4 team to finish 2nd at the Spring Invite.

4. Missing Heads (North Star). Two wins in the past month, they have established themselves as the team to beat at North Star.

5. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). Duane’s World got hot in November (3 wins in 4 weeks) but have cooled off in December, as they’re still looking for their first W.

6. Philliez Nutz (Bards). In the midst of a fairly monumental streak, they have finished 2nd at the Bards for 4 consecutive weeks. Got to give them credit for consistency. They also finished 3rd at the Invite.

7. Ruby Tuesday (Ugly American). 2 wins in the past month and a 4th place finish at the Invitational makes them the team to beat at UA.

8. Wee-Beys Kids (Ugly American) Almost knock off the Steak two weeks ago, then come in last week to the Ugly and take first place. This is a team on the rise.

9. Some Douche Stole My Bike (O’Neals). A 2nd place finish at Black Sheep last month plus a win at O’Neals last week gets them into the mix.

10. Angel’s Pujols (Bards). Every once in a great while, this team jumps up and makes some noise at the Bards. Last week was one of those great whiles.

11. Gobblers (Black Sheep). A big win last week at Black Sheep for these regulars. Can they keep the momentum going this week?

12. Magnus ver Magnusson (Locust Rendezvous). A first and two thirds over the past 3 weeks at the Vous, they remain the most consistent team at the Vous not named the Jams.

New Power Rankings

Another wild week sends the QCS computer scrambling to figure out who’s ranked where.

1. Steak Em Up (Bards). Finally, a team holds onto the #1 spot for two straight weeks. Barely. A narrow win over Philliez Nutz. Last week: #1

2. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). 2 straight wins at the Sheep. This team has its swagger back.  Last week: #3

3. Philliez Nutz (Bards). Lose to Steak on number question at the end. These guys are for real. Last week: #4

4. Savage Ear (O’Neals). A win followed by a 2nd place finish. After a controversial hiatus, complete with vicious mudslinging emails between the Toddfather and myself, they are back in full effect. Last week: #6

5. Honey Badgers (Locust Rendezvous). Who dreamed of a day when the last 4 Rendezvous quizzes would be won by either the Honey Badgers or the Butterfaces? Last week: NR

6. Million Dollar Robot Baby (City Tap House). Two wins and three 2nd place finishers in the past 6 weeks. Last week: NR

7. Madame Butterface (Locust Rendezvous). A bad outing at the Vous sends them tumbling down the rankings. Nonetheless, they scored the most points in the JGTAI, so kudos for that. Last week: #2

8. Ruby Tuesday (Ugly American). Quietly making a name for themselves. Won at City Tap House a month ago, won at Ugly American last week. Last week: NR

9. Mister Lippers (O’Neals). If these guys played more often, I think they’d be a regular top 5 team. Whenever they play, they are really, really good. Last week: NR

10. Do It Live (Tap House). They’ve gone from first to 2nd to 3rd in the past 3 weeks. Will their slide continue or are they going to be a perennial Top 3 finisher at CTH? Last week: #7

11. PSU Defensive Coordinator (Tap House). Pull off a shocker last week at CTH. Is this a one-hit wonder or is this team for real? Last week: NR

12. Missing Heads (North Star). Didn’t exactly set any scoring records last week, but still got a hard-earned victory. Will these Black Sheep refugees establish themselves as the team to beat up North? Last week: NR

JGT Power Rankings

Here are the power rankings heading into this week’s action (before Tuesday night’s quiz).

1. Steak Em Up (Bards) After a few weeks floundering, they win 3 in one week. As much as it pains me to admit, impressive. Last week: #7

2. Madame Butterface (Locust Rendezvous) Any team that goes back to back at our toughest bar gets a major bump in the rankings. Two in a row for Butterface. Last week: #4

3. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). An impressive 19 point win at the Sheep keeps them holding steady at #3. Last week: #3

4. Philliez Nutz (Bards). It’s worth noting that none of Steak’s wins last week were against their achilles heel, the Nutz. Steak played at UA, while the Nutz won their 3rd in 4 weeks at the Bards. Last week: NR

5. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics (Ugly American). A 108 will normally get you a win at UA, but now when the Steak shows up for a quiz in their wheelhouse. Last week: #3

6. Savage Ear (O’Neals). A triumphant return to the bar they ran for years. My angry emails to the Toddfather finally were answered. Last week: NR

7. Do It Live (CTH). A win two weeks ago and 2nd place last week. This team looks to be for real. Last week: #8

8. The Jams (Vous). An impressive performance last week, finishing 2nd with 3 players. I expect this team to start one of their vaunted hot streaks very soon.Last week: #9

9. Fracksylvania (Black Sheep). A week after a win at North Star, they go into Black Sheep and come away with a 2nd place finish. This team is on fire! Last week: #13

10. Queen of Hearts (Bards). A win two weeks ago and a loss by one question this past week. Don’t look now, but the Bards is starting to re-establish itself as a serious quizzo spot. Last week: #13

11. Mysterious Mr. Mapother (O’Neals). A 2nd place and a 3rd place finish in one week. Their not setting any records, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of either. Last week: NR

12. Magnus ver Magnusson. (Rendezvous) Keep waiting for them to snap out of this slump. After 3 straight wins in August, only one win in past 10 quizzes. Last week: NR

JGT Power Rankings for Week of November 1st

After the wildest week in JGT quizzo history, things are all sorts of insane. Not a single team in last week’s Top 12 won this week, and only four of them even finished in the top 3. Here are the latest rankings.

1. Vacant. There simply is no-one to put here after last week. All of our top teams should be happy about this, as the position is obviously cursed. The Top ranked team has lost every single week following their #1 ranking so far.

2. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. (Ugly American) No-way they can keep the title after losing by 9 points, but their 2nd place finish at least keeps them in 2nd on the big board. Last week: #1

3. Duane’s World. (Black Sheep) Hard to believe that a 3rd place finish could move a team up in the rankings, but compared to how our other perennial champs did, it was a major victory. Last week: #4

4. Madame Butterface (The Vous). Came into the Vous on Wednesday and sent a message at our toughest bar, loud and clear. Was it a flash in the pan, or is this team for real? We’ll find out soon enough. Last week: NR

5. Wet Bandits. (O’Neals). Dominate at O’Neals with a 116. As with all of the teams this week, hard to know if they’re for real or all about the 2 G’s. Last week: NR

6. Million Dollar Robot Baby (City Tap House). Stay put in the rankings thanks to a mere 8-point loss and 2nd place finish at CTH. Last week: #6

7. Steak Em Up (Bards). Not even a Top 3 finish. They get in on name recognition alone. Last week: #3

8. Do It Live (City Tap House). Who are they? Why are they here? I have no idea, but I’d like to see them play again to see if there is a new powerhouse at CTH. Last week: NR

9. The Jams (Rendezvous). Normally a 109 has you closer to the top of the list. This week, it just got the Jams a 7 point loss. Last week: #11

10. That’s Just How Quizzo Go. (Black Sheep). That’s just how quizzo went last week. A huge win at the Sheep. Last week: NR

11. Queen of Hearts is a Nice Piece of Ace (Bards). Love teams like this. Been playing forever, never took home top prize, and finally on one night, all of the stars aligned and they win at a packed bar. Awesome. Last week: NR

12. Mustard Gives Me Gas (Ugly American). Look damn impressive, a 3-player team knocking off the #1 Diabetics. On a normal week, they’d be even higher, but last week wasn’t a normal week. Last week: NR

13. We Got Fracked (North Star). Another team with its first ever win after playing for a long time, they take home the trophy at the North Star bar and move into our power rankings for the first time ever. Will #13 be lucky for Fracked? Last week: NR

JGT Power Rankings for Week of October 24th

1. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics (North Star and Ugly American). A narrow win at North Star followed by a blowout win at UA takes them to the top spot. Last week: #2

2. Philliez Nutz (Bards). Wanna get to the top of the rankings? Beat Steak Em Up 3 times in 4 weeks and I can guarantee you a spot in the Top 3. Last week: #5

3. Steak Em Up (CTH and Bards). A first place and a 2nd place keep them in the 3-hole. Last week: #3

4. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). Recent losing streak caused them to call in reinforcements. Don’t know if they even needed them in a 27-point shellacking at the Black Sheep. Last week: #12

5. Honey Badgers (Locust Rendezvous). Well, they already had the superlative “loudest team” pretty much locked up, but now you can finally put a win on their resume. Huge win for the Badgers. Congrats! Last week: NR

6. Million Dollar Robot Baby (City Tap House). At first glance, a 2nd place finish is nothing to be ashamed of. Until you see that they fell by 25. And the curse of the #1 rank continues. Still no team has remained #1 for two straight weeks. Last week: #1

7. Mysterious Mr. Mapother (O’Neals). 2nd win in 3 weeks for Mapother at O’Neals. Now that the Ear seems to have folded, Mapother has established itself as the team to beat at O’Neals. Last week: NR

8. Mister Lippers (Ugly American). Picked a good week to take a week off. With so many top teams losing, they only drop two spots in the rankings. Last week: #6

9. What’s Good for the Puma (Black Sheep). A third place finish at the Black Sheep keeps them holding steady at #9. Last week: #9

10. Inglorious Barristers (Vous). I started posting the top 3 quizzo scores at each bar in June of 2009. Since that time, there have been over 100 quizzes at the Vous. And not once, not once, did the Barristers, Jams, or Magnus all fail to finish in the Top 3. Until this week. Pretty incredible. Last week: #4

11. The Jams (Locust Rendezvous). There is no tougher team in quizzo when they are hot, but they aren’t hot right now. A rare Top 3 miss for the Jams. Last week: #7

12. What’s Good for the Puma (Black Sheep). Another Top-3 finish, but they are hanging onto a Top-12 standing by a thread. Last week: #9

JGT Power Rankings

Running a little late this week. This covers quizzes through last Thursday’s quizzo, and do not include this Monday or Tuesday’s results. A crazy week last week with tons of new winners completely shook up the rankings.

1. Million Dollar Robot Baby (City Tap House). An impressive win over Steak Em Up at City Tap House and losses by the 4 teams ahead of them in the rankings propel the Baby to the top spot. Last Week: #5.

2. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics (North Star). One question away from perfection at North Star propels them up the ladder. Last week: #7

3. Steak Em Up (CTH and Bards). Not one but two second place finishes bumps them from the top. Last week: #3

4. Inglorious Barristers (Locust Rendezvous). 2 wins in the last 4 weeks at the toughest quiz puts them in a sweet spot. Last week: #11

5. Philliez Nutz (Bards). These guys have made a name for themselves by knocking off the Steak at Bards two o the past three weeks. I saw Nate sweet-talking them after the latest win, making it obvious that he’s trying to absorb yet another top competitor. Steak Em Up are a corporate quizglomerate if ever there was one. Last week: NR

6. Mister Lippers (Ugly American).  A damn fine 119 point performance at Ugly American gets the Lippers on the big board. Last week: NR

7. The Jams (Locust Rendezvous). If they had answered one more question correctly last week, and they could very well be #1. A 3-point loss to the Barristers drops them in the rankings. Last week: #4

8. Firehouse (Black Sheep). Burst onto the scene with a 15 point win over Duane’s World and the Puma at Sheep. Are they a flash in the pan or a new rival at the Sheep? We’ll find out for sure soon enough. Last week: NR

9. What’s Good for the Puma (Black Sheep). Ordinarily, a 3rd place finish wouldn’t drop you this far, but there’s just been so much parity at quizzo lately it’s hard to stay in the Top 5 without a win. Last week: #2

10. Taking it to the Max (O’Neals). A convincing win at O’Neals get the Max back on the big board. Last week: NR

11. Team Popesack (North Star). A spanking at the hands of L. Ron drop them quite a bit. Last week: #3

12. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). Their precipitous slide down the power rankings has been Red Sox-esque. And I hear they’re drinking in the clubhouse. Last week: #9

JGT Power Rankings Extended to Top 12

A weird week last week, as the Phillies games had us scrambling to reschedule and move around quizzes. Nonetheless, we continue to have a lot of parity, with teams rarely winning on back to back weeks. It really has made for a lot of movement on the Power Rankings.

1. Steak Em Up (Bards). A loss at O’Neals with a small team, but an easy win at a crowded Bards pulls them into the top spot. But it wasn’t all good for the Steak. Nate “Facepaint” DiGiorgio had to watch the Eagles blow it again, then had his fantasy football team crushed by mine. Last week: #3

2. What’s Good for the Puma (Black Sheep). Two wins in a row for the Puma at Black Sheep has really put this fairly new squad on the JGT radar in a hurry. Last week: #6

3. Team Popesack (North Star). Only two teams showed at North Star thanks to Phillie fatigure, so we just went ahead and had a friendly. It actually turned out to be a hell of a lot of fun, and we even got live music at the end of it. Popesack won, though it doesn’t count in the Invite. Hopefully, they’ll test their mettle against some tougher competition this week. Last week: #2

4. The Jams (Locust Rendezvous). A 3rd place finish at the Vous, but that was rather deceiving. The change in days left them with only two players. I fully expect them to bounce back this week. Last week: #1

5. Million Dollar Robot Baby (City Tap House). Cruise to an easy win at  CTH, and coupled with another loss by Duane’s World, they make the move into the Top 5. Matt’s daughter also played in her first soccer game this week. And judging from the facebook pictures, I have extremely good news to report: the little girl looks like her mother. Last week: #10.

6. Mysterious Mr. Mapother (O’Neals). A huge win over Steak Em Up, plus John gave me some quizzo pens for free. Any team that donates pens to the cause gets a bump in the rankings guaranteed. Also, money will work. Last week: NR

7. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics (Ugly American). Survive in OT at the Ugly American. And rumors of a “Hopalong” Cliver sighting at tonight’s quiz. I hope his 8 year rehab from that knee injury is almost over.  Last week: NR

8. Why Can’t Us (Ugly American). Heartbreaking loss in OT @ UA.  OMG. LOL. Last week: #7

9. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). Another 2nd place finish at the Sheep coupled with several new winners last week has this former #1 slipping down the rankings, though the housework JohniE and Mike did for us this past week keeps them in the Top 10. Last week: #5

10. Magnus ver Magnusson (Locust Rendezvous). About damn time. Last week: NR

11. Inglorious Barristers (Locust Rendezvous). Adam couldn’t make it on Thursday because he had band practice. Seriously. I’m guessing it’s a Backstreet Boys tribute band, but I could be wrong. Last week: #4

12. Madame Butterface (Locust Rendezvous). A 2nd place finish at the toughest bar on the circuit earns the Butterface a top 12 finish. Last week: NR
