The JGT Quizzo Power Rankings

computer-fireA big week of upsets caused a JGTQPR computer meltdown, but we were able to salvage the rankings before the resulting fire destroyed everything. Here we go.

1. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Another week, another win at the Ugly American. The only team to escape the week unscathed. Last week: #4

2. Steak Em Up. They fall on Tuesday to a Quattro team that would be permanent if BMT and Kenney had a spine between them, then win on Thursday. We won’t speak of what happened on Saturday. I’m still bitter. Last week: #3

3. Ivan the Trivial. Domination finally ends with a 15 point loss to the Ear. Last week: #1

4. The Jams. Playing without Phil, they don’t crack the top 3 of an increasingly competitive ‘Vous. Last week #2

5. The Ear. After months after swimming in circles, they get off the schneid in a big way, crushing the #1 team in the land. Last week: NR

6. Catdog. In and out of the rankings the past few months, they come up big this week with a win at the Black Sheep. Can they maintain their top 10 status this time? Last week: NR

7. Magnus ver Magnusson. Get that elusive first ever win at the Vous on Wednesday. They’ve been the hunter for months, how will they react to being the hunted? Last week: NR.

8. Duane’s World. Two games, two 2nd place finishes. Last week: #5

9. 1022. A top 3 finish keeps them in the top 10…barely. Last week: #6

10. Claudia Kishi Fan Club. A week after their parents finish in the 10 spot, they finish 2nd at the Bards to claim a spot in the top 10. Last week: NR

Also receiving votes: Lambda, Narcotyzing Dysfunktion, Axis of Evil Knieval, Salsa! Seltzer!, Phillie RNs.

Quizzo Power Rankings

old-computerThe computer (above) has spoken, and there are some surprises in this week’s QPR.

  1. Ivan the Trivial. 10 wins in 11 weeks against teams like the Ear, Lambda, and the Phillie RNs. They finally get the top spot.
  2. The Jams. A hard fought win against a 1022 that has been on fire the past few weeks. They also fight off the hounds from Magnus ver Magnusson and Quiz on Your Face each week. In 2010, the best competition so far has come at the Vous.
  3. Steak Em Up. Yeah, they keep winning, but against who? Keep in mind the QPR computers take into account strength of schedule, and the fact is that Steak Em Up just keeps beating up on the Weak Sisters of Mercy each week. While they won at the Bards Tuesday, their score would have placed them 4th at the Vous. This team might need a win on the road to get their top spot back.
  4. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Grind out a tough win over Duane’s World on Thursday. With a score over 100 almost every week, this team is starting to look like a Quizzo Bowl sleeper pick.
  5. Duane’s World. A win against top flight competition at the Black Sheep, and then they go on the road to play L. Ron tough. Is the World finally off the schnide?
  6. 1022. Continue to nip at the Jams heels. The Vous was once where the Jams went to win and everyone else went to drink. No longer. 1022 added some new players to the roster and is one of several teams in the hunt every week.
  7. Axis of Evil Knieval. They finish 2nd place this week after winning last week at the Black Sheep. If they start playing on a regular basis, they really have the talent to be a top 3 team.
  8. Lambda. Back to back Quizzo Bowl winners and the only team to beat Ivan the Trivial in the past 3 months, Lambda is welcomed back to the power rankings with Open Arms.
  9. Why Can’t Us. Not their strongest performance this week, but they hold on to a top 10 spot.
  10. The Magnificent Seven. Gotta give these guys credit. They show up at a place where their kids play regularly (Black Sheep), they play quizzo for the first time ever, their kids don’t inform them about the question of the week (dirty trick),  and they still whip their kids by 12 points and finish 3rd at the Black Sheep. Respect.

JGT Quizzo Power Rankings

old_computer-pic The computer that crunches the numbers for the Power Rankings (seen above) is taking into account finishes in the past weeks, not just this past week, as well as quality of wins, team schedule, pedigree of team members, team spirit, and technical merit, and and then multiplies all results times pi (3.14). Here are the numbers the computer churned out.

  1. Steak Em Up. In the words of KRS-ONE, they’re still number one.
  2. Ivan the Trivial. Whattya gotta do to get top billing around here? They’ve won 9 straight, but can’t get by Steak Em Up, who keep winning as well.
  3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. They start 2010 the way they left off 2009…as the class of the Ugly American.
  4. The Jams. They lose in OT, but they are still the team to beat at the Vous.
  5. 1022. A big win at the Vous this past week, and with a bunch of teams really bunched together after the top 4, a win was what they needed to propel them to #5.
  6. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. Another 2nd place finish at the Bards, this team really needs a win over the Steak to re-establish themselves as an upper tier team.
  7. Showing Our Youth. Who are these guys? They roll into Black Sheep out of nowhere and take the top prize. Will it continue or are they a one hit wonder?
  8. Why Can’t Us? Another 2nd place finish at UA. Good to see that the Diabetics finally have a rival.
  9. Catdog. The most consistent team at Black Sheep, four Top 3 finishes in the past five weeks, including two wins.
  10. The Savage Ear. The Kings of consistency, 7 2nd Place Finishes in the past 8 weeks. Unbelievable.

The JGT Power Rankings

powerranks

  1. Steak Em Up. Formed a super team and had a perfect score on Tuesday. Much more impressive was their Thursday win with only three players. Last week: #1
  2. Ivan the Trivial. They’ve now won 6 straight. A Christmas bounty on their heads tonight. Last week: #2
  3. The Jams. Three straight wins keep the Jams climbing the charts. Last week: #5
  4. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. A one point loss at the American ends their impressive streak, but they are still one of the top 5 teams on the circuit. Last week: #4
  5. Why Can’t Us. An impressive win over the Diabetics has this team rocketing up the charts. Last week: #9
  6. Catdog. 2 wins in three weeks at the Black Sheep. One of the streakiest teams in quizzo is on a hot streak right now. Last week: NR
  7. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. It wasn’t a full contingent this week, but a mini-team keeps them in the top 10 with a 2nd place finish at the Bards. Last week: #6
  8. Quiz on Your Face. A second place finish to the Jams this week and a win over them earlier this month. They continue to be a thorn in the Jams side. Last week: NR
  9. The Savage Ear. Another week, another 2nd place finish. One of the most remarkably consistent streaks I have ever seen. 6 straight weeks Ivan the Trivial has won. 6 straight weeks The Ear has finished 2nd. Oh, the humanity. Last week: #8
  10. Duane’s World. Slip slidin’ away. Slip slidin’ away-yay. You know the nearer your destination, the more you’re slip slidin’ away. This team is one bad Black Sheep finish away from being left off the Power Rankings for the first time since they were created. Last week: #7

JGT Power Rankings

  1. powerranksSteak Em Up. Split with a win and a loss this week. They maintain the #1 spot, but the QCS rankings are a lot closer than they were last week. Last week #1
  2. Ivan the Trivial. They’ve won five in a row, and they now have a Bounty on their heads. An impressive performance this week and a loss by the Steak, and this team could hop into the One spot. Last week: #2.
  3. Satan’s Minions. Wow. They only miss one question (They didn’t answer Philly Inquirer as one of the top 10 circulated papers) and score a 117. Their ranking comes as a bit of a disappointment howerver. Howard was hoping they would be ranked #8. Last week: NR
  4. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. They’ve now won 9 out of 10 at the Ugly American. This is a juggernaut. Last week: #3
  5. The Jams. They win, but barely. A one point win at the Vous over a team of brash upstarts. Will this be the start of yet another Jams run? Last week: #4
  6. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. They weren’t happy about being left out of the power rankings last week, and came out with something to prove on Tuesday, delivering a smackdown to Steak Em Up. They’re happy now. Last week: NR.
  7. Duane’s World. 3rd Place at Black Sheep and 2nd Place at Ugly American. They’re like the Sixers: Always in the running, but lately they’ve just had a tough time landing a win.  (Jon E., I made an NBA reference just for you.) Last week: #5
  8. The Savage Ear. Shorthanded this past week, they still managed to finish 2nd. More importantly, Pam quit wearing sweatpants. Last week: #6.
  9. Why Can’t Us. Pick up Palestra Jon and fall by 5 measly points to the Diabetics. I like the addition of PJ on this team. I think it’s a good fit, and if he continues to play there, I think this team could really shock the Diabetics. Last week: #10.
  10. Axis of Evil Knieval. Lost by 4 to Steak Em Up on Thursday. This team with a storied past has a promising future. Last week: NR

The Quizzo Power Rankings Are Back!

roidsDue to numerous cancellations with the Phillies, holidays, etc, it has been hard to build enough consistency to really pull off a power rankings. We seem to finally be moving forward enough to get some rankings up (which will of course be derailed by the Christmas holiday, but such is life.) Here are our top ten heading into this week.

  1. Steak Em Up. (Bards) Controversy notwithstanding, the Steak Em Ups have proven unbeatable. That being said, they have agreed to split up the team somewhat starting this week.
  2. Ivan the Trivial. (O’Neals) Four straight wins at O’Neals. These guys are one away from having a bounty on their heads.
  3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. (Ugly American) Winners of 8 of the last 9 at the Ugly American, I would really like to see them develop a rivalry with someone. Any good team that becomes regulars at the Ugly American will instantly be a viable rival, whether it be Duane’s World or the Ruptured Appendix.
  4. The Jams. (Locust Rendezvous) Two straight 2nd place finishes, but before that they had won 7 straight.
  5. Duane’s World. (Black Sheep) One first place and four 2nd places in the past 5 weeks. This team is starting to remind me of the Atlanta Braves of the 1990s.
  6. The Savage Ear. (O’Neals) Four straight 2nd places. This team is starting to remind me of he Buffalo Bills of the 1990s.
  7. Quiz on Your Face. (Rendezvous) Big win for the Faces this past week at the Rendezvous. Good to see that the Jams finally have a rival.
  8. 1022. (Rendezvous) These guys have been coming up big lately at the Vous as well. The addition of new team members has made this crew one to keep an eye on.
  9. Catdog. (Black Sheep)An impressive win this past week. This is a very streaky team. Will they get hot before the holidays?
  10. Why Can’t Us? (Ugly American) The only team to knock off the Diabetics in the past 3 months, this team is two players away from being a potent force. Time to hit the recruiting trail!

Power Rankings Heading Into Fall Brawl

leavesNeedless to say, these will change after Saturday’s event.

  1. Steak Em Up-Finally fall this week, but with the addition of the best player for Hurtin Bombs and the addition of Swanson, back from UVA, this is the team to beat at Fall Brawl.
  2. The Jams-Eek out a win this week, but will they be attending the big fall event?
  3. Duane’s World-Rumor has it they’re teaming up with Unusual Suspects for the big event.
  4. Lambda-Finally get a win at O’Neals and have a full complement playing at Fall Brawl. Two time defending Quizzo Bowl Champs looking to ad another feather to the cap.
  5. The Ear-Five game win streak ends, but still a formidable foe. This is your dark horse.
  6. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics-competed with Sofa Kingdom and Hurtin Bombs last night, despite missing several of their best players. A very legit shot of winning this thing.
  7. Quiz on Your Face-Another dark horse, but if they can beat the Jams, they can beat anybody.
  8. The Hurtin Bombs. A huge win against several Top 10 teams last night. Unfortunately, they won’t be fielding a team for Fall Brawl.
  9. The Unusual Suspects. Teaming with Duane’s World for Fall Brawl.
  10. Magnus ver Magnusson. Not looking up the question of the week prevents them from tying the Jams.

Wild Cards:

Rob’s Zombies (aka The Champs). The two time Quizzo Bowl winnners haven’t been seen in a while. Will they come out of the woodwork for Fall Brawl?

Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. No word yet on Steak Em Ups biggest rivals.

Sell Your Soul Train. Surprising 2nd place finishers at Quizzo Bowl. Will they attend? They don’t even know yet.

Power Rankings

  1. Steak Em Up. Was going to drop them a spot for picking up Kenney off of Hurtin Bombs, but then they won Thursday w/o him or Garbo, so I gotta give em credit. Last week: #1
  2. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Slowly making their way back to the top with four straight wins at the American. Last week: #3
  3. The Ear. An organization that should serve as a model for all teams. They perennially sucked, so they recruited some fresh blood and are now on a 4 game win streak. Last week: #4
  4. The Jams. Ouch, the music round severely damaged the Vous top team. The Jams finish 4th, and that drops them to 4th in our rankings. Last week: #2
  5. The Unusual Suspects. Helped by a Duane’s World turncoat, they finish #1 at the Sheep. Will Mike Minion turn out to be a double agent, and flip-flop back to the WOrld this week? We’ll see. Last week: #8
  6. Quiz on Your Face: A huge win, followed by a weekend wedding. This team is riding high right now. Will the honeymoon end this Wednesday? Last week: #9
  7. Duane’s World: Absolutely crushed by the music round, they finish 7th at the Black Sheep, dropping them to 7th in the rankings. Last week: #5
  8. Lambda. Another 93-91 loss at the hands of the Ear keeps them running in place. Last week: #8
  9. Dork Sided. They finished one point behind Lambda on Tuesday, and finish one point behind them in the rankings. Last week: NR
  10. Kibbles n Vick. They finally crack the top 10 with a 2nd place finish at the Bards, scoring higher than the 2nd ranked Diabetics. Last week: NR

philadelhia-sheesesteaks#1. Steak Em Up. They are just straight rolling through the competition. The Bards desperately needs a nerd infusion to challenge these guys. Last week #1

#2. The Jams. One H away from perfection, they have now won three in a row at the Vous and 6 of the last 8. Last week #2

#3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Not a lot of movement at the top this week, as all of the favorites took care of business. Last week #3

#4. The Ear: Not Your Typical Orifice. They add one new team member and suddenly go from cellar dweller to powerhouse. The new guy is either a genius or adept at hiding a Blackberry. Last week #4

#5. Duane’s World. Finally, the World gets off the schnide and records a win at the Black Sheep. This is perhaps the streakiest team in quizzo. Will this win start a hot streak? Last week #7

#6. Eschaton/Satan’s Minions. Different team name, same result: 2nd Place finishes at Black Sheep and Ugly American. Last week NR

#7.  Lambda. Finally emerge from the depths of the earth to finish 2nd at O’Neals. There are rumors of them coming after the bounty this week. A win over Steak Em Up could send this team rocketing up the charts. Last week NR

#8.Unusual Suspects. A third place finish at the Black Sheep keeps them on the charts, but they’ll have to do better this week to stay there. Last week #6

#9. Quiz On Your Face. This team is like the Dodgers of the 40s and 50s; they’d a won a ton if it wasn’t for the Yankees, and these guys woulda won a ton if it wasn’t for the Jams. Last week: NR

#10. Why’s John’s Rum Gone. Only two of them played this week, but they still medaled. That keeps them in the Top 10. Last week #10.
