I Heart the 90s Flashback Video

As we continue on with I Heart the 90s Quiz (which, I must admit, was a little too easy last night), I’m gonna play some of my favorite 90s jams. This one is by one of my favorite groups of all time, Das EFX. While this is not my favorite song of theirs, it is the one most people remember from the 1990s. Das EFX was a duo from Brooklyn whose verbal linguistics were nothing short of brilliant, but unfortunately their style was copped by so many groups after their first album they had to scrap it, and they never found success with subsequent albums. Nonetheless, this one is a gem.

Goodtimes, Kingdom Headed to Denver for Geek Bowl

A few months ago the city of Philly was challenged by John Dicker, the head of the corporate behemoth Geeks Who Drink. (Seriously, these guys are everywhere now.) But he’s based in Denver, and that’s where Geek Bowl IV will be held. Well, not surprisingly, the one local group that was interested in the offer was the Sofa Kingdom. The four main members of the Kingdom (Nate, Koob, Garbo, and Swanson) then added me and Phil from the Jams to round out the 6 person squad. We are headed out there in a couple of weeks to represent Philadelphia and bring home the thousands in cash and prizes. We’ve bought our plane tickets and gotten the hotel. Now it’s 2 1/2 weeks of intensive mental workouts. With the Eagles season done, the Flyers kinda so-so, and the Sixers stinking, this may be Philly’s best chance to come home with a trophy until October. We take representing this city very seriously, and will do our damndest to bring home that trophy.

90s Week at Quizzo!

iluv90sOk, gang, a big week this week at quizzo, as we are gonna honor the 1990s. I was inspired by playing the 90s edition of Trivial Pursuit last night. To be honest, the questions were pretty crappy. They were almost all either gimmes or completely impossible. So I figured I could come up with some better questions about a decade we all know and hate love, so this week all questions will be about the 90s. (And don’t worry, history buffs, to make sure that there are still a few questions from before the 90s, I will also ask a few about people who died in the 90s.) Should be a fun quiz. Study your 90s movies, music, trends, and important events. They’ll all be on the quiz this week.

Inspired by Tony Robbins

tony-robbins
I posted on Twitter the other day that I had bought a Tony Robbins CD at the thrift store. Within hours, I had been befriended by TonyRobbinsSales, AnthonyRobbinsSales, and AnthonyRobbinsFan. Inspired, I’ve started befriending everyone who posts anything about quizzo. This Tony Robbins CD is already paying off, and I haven’t even taken it out of the package yet!

By the way, when I worked in Hawaii, Tony Robbins used to hold a one week seminar at the resort where I worked. Couple thousand people showed up for $10,000…and that did not include the flight or lodging at the Hilton (which was another few thousand.) I met some people who were involved. Apparently, in the Grand Finale, Tony Robbins descended from the rafters on wires as the crowd went wild. I need to find out a way to do that at Quizzo Bowl.

JGT Quizzo Power Rankings

old_computer-pic The computer that crunches the numbers for the Power Rankings (seen above) is taking into account finishes in the past weeks, not just this past week, as well as quality of wins, team schedule, pedigree of team members, team spirit, and technical merit, and and then multiplies all results times pi (3.14). Here are the numbers the computer churned out.

  1. Steak Em Up. In the words of KRS-ONE, they’re still number one.
  2. Ivan the Trivial. Whattya gotta do to get top billing around here? They’ve won 9 straight, but can’t get by Steak Em Up, who keep winning as well.
  3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. They start 2010 the way they left off 2009…as the class of the Ugly American.
  4. The Jams. They lose in OT, but they are still the team to beat at the Vous.
  5. 1022. A big win at the Vous this past week, and with a bunch of teams really bunched together after the top 4, a win was what they needed to propel them to #5.
  6. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion. Another 2nd place finish at the Bards, this team really needs a win over the Steak to re-establish themselves as an upper tier team.
  7. Showing Our Youth. Who are these guys? They roll into Black Sheep out of nowhere and take the top prize. Will it continue or are they a one hit wonder?
  8. Why Can’t Us? Another 2nd place finish at UA. Good to see that the Diabetics finally have a rival.
  9. Catdog. The most consistent team at Black Sheep, four Top 3 finishes in the past five weeks, including two wins.
  10. The Savage Ear. The Kings of consistency, 7 2nd Place Finishes in the past 8 weeks. Unbelievable.

This from CNN.com: James Cameron’s completely immersive spectacle “Avatar” may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.

Sometimes I get suicidal thoughts when I see pictures of Saturn. It’s so much bigger than our planet, and it’s got those sweet ass rings.
