Sweet! I Just Got a Prank Call!

I am happy to report that the art of mindless prank calls has not ended. I just received a call from an unusual number, and when I picked it up, a teenager on the other line asked, “Hey, can we go swimming?” to which I answered, still not knowing who this was, “Where?” His reply was “Your house.” Then I heard giggling thru the nose and got hung up on. The pointless, uncreative prank calls, the ones where the only real purpose was to call a complete stranger and talk to them, are really the best. Then you and your buddies crack up because you can’t believe he asked that dude if you could go swimming at his house.

The Pizza Hunt Continues at Homeslice

Steve-O and I made our move on Saturday to Homeslice, located on Liberties Walk in Northern Liberties. Now, some people have whined about the Liberties Walk thing in Philly, to which I can only say:  you are whining for the mere purpose of whining. Get over it. If you don’t like it, take your ironically tight jeans and clown makeup somewhere that better fits your Communist sensibilities. Pyongyang perhaps. Liberties Walk is unlike anything else in Philly, and unique spots are a good thing. Anyways, where were we? Ah yes, Homeslice, located on Liberties Walk. One thing I’d be remiss to mention is that we gave our reviews right after eating, and then later interviewed the owners. And they were right: pizza often makes me feel sluggish, but this pizza did not. So kudos for a healthy pie. But does healthy pie make for a great pie? Watch the video and find out.

Murder in NoLibs

rianthalSteve-O and I went to Homeslice in Northern Liberties on Saturday. I’ll have the review up this afternoon.  That evening, a few blocks from where we grabbed a slice in as tranquil of a spot as you’ll find in Philly, a double murder took place.  It gets crazier the more I read about it.

Investigators said they found four kilos of cocaine and more than $100,000 in her seventh-floor apartment.

Four kilos is not a small amount of cocaine. It’s almost 9 pounds. It is going to be interesting to see how this whole thing shakes down. Attractive white woman involved in rap game gunned down at high end condo, with big money and coke involved? Let’s not kid ourselves, this is highly sensational. However, I wonder if local news will downplay it for fear of upsetting advertisers in an up and coming part of the city. Or am I just a cynical, tin-hatted conpiracist goon? What do you guys think?

The Great Pizza Hunt 2009 Continues at Marra’s

The Sandman and I checked out Marra’s at 1734 East Passyunk. A South Philly staple, Marra’s has been around since Salvatore and Chiarina Marra opened it in 1927. The couple had moved to the United States, as legend has it, with but “a single coin in his pocket and a dream to provide a better life to his family.” Well, it’s 2009, and Marra’s is still going strong. The Sandman and I got a little crazy with our toppings. See how it turned out in the video above.

Two Teams Flirt With Perfection

img_0696A quizmaster’s worst nightmare was barely avoided not once but twice this week. On Tuesday, the magic of Harry Houdini prevented Hurtin Bombs from becoming the first ever team to achieve two perfect scores.  It was a before or after 1923 round, and the question was “When did Harry Houdini die?” They had After, scratched it out and put Before. The answer was After. It was the only one they missed.

L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics had me sweating bullets on Thursday at the Ugly American, as they had a perfect score through the first 39 questions. The final question was, “What element melts at a higher temperature than any other metal?” They answered Titanium, the answer was Tungsten, and I breathed a deep sigh of relief.
