Mystery Round Unveiled

Ok, so here’s how it worked. I asked 9 questions. The 10th question was what do the first 9 answers all have in common. Where did I come up with such a brilliant idea for a round? I stole it from the New Deck quiz. I thought of it all on my own. Yeah, I know. I’m pretty smart. Answers to question and answer to the mystery are after the jump.

  1. In ancient Egypt, these were worn to display status and also as ID tags to help the Gods guide the wearer to the appropriate level in the afterlife.
  2. This woman famously played a character named Prissy in Gone With the Wind and later modeled for the Mrs. Butterworth bottle.
  3. What formula gives us the mass-energy equivalence?
  4. This song was a big hit for both the Lovin Spoonful and Lupe Fiasco.
  5. The first one of these was issued on September 22, 1862, the 2nd one was issued on January 1, 1863.

Denver Ranked 5th Smartest City in Country; Philly 11th

denver_1The Daily Beast did a recent ranking of the 55 smartest cities in the country, and the results were rather interesting. Raleigh Durham took home the top prize, while Denver was #5. Philadelphia just missed the top 10, finishing 11th. So according to the arbitrary measures that constitute this absurd measuring stick, Denver is a much smarter city than Philadelphia. Wouldn’t it be a shame if their 50 or so teams couldn’t beat our 1? The difference between Geek Bowl and this cockamamie ranking is simple: Geek Bowl is quantifiable, this ranking is not. And so, Daily Beast, you better hope we don’t win this thing. It would show your rankings to be nothing but a cheap sham to garner page views. Though that is already pretty evident. DC, Seattle, and Baltimore also finished ahead of Philly, and in past city vs. city smackdowns, we destroyed those cities.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but as of right now, we are tentatively looking at March 20th as a date. I am in talks with a very cool venue. They want to do it, I want to do it, we just gotta make sure we can make those numbers line up for both of us. It’s tricky when, in addition to renting the room, you gotta give away a bunch of prize money and pay a band, so we’re trying to find a way to make it happen. But I’m really hoping it will and I really want to set a new attendance record this year. That’s something we can aim for if we get this place. Should know something a little more definite on Monday. I’ll keep ya updated.

Monday Night Comedy Show at Khyber!

The Chip Chantry One Man Show resumes tonight at the Khyber with the very unusual Amir Gollan, the very funny Darryl Charles, and sketch group Secret Pants. We are also inviting comedians to take part in our Minuteman competition: Anyone who wants to is given one minute to perform on stage. Whoever is funniest for one minute wins $25. Should be a hoot. It’s the one year anniversary of the CHip Chantry One Man SHow with special guests, and it’s always a hoot. Hope you can make it.
