This is great. Glenn Beck is a clown who realized that more people listen when you act like a jackass than when you act as a voice of reason, so he has gone further and further off the deep end over the years, until he finally reached a point when he said that Obama “hates white people and white culture.” Of course, Kanye West said similar things about George Bush (though Bush doesn’t hate black people. He hates poor people.) and was pretty much blasted by all circles. I hope that even Bob T. can agree on this one: Glenn Beck isn’t a conservative. He’s just a moron.

This is a repeat of an excellent article Willie Gee wrote two years ago when Vick was arrested. I think it is well worth a re-read now that Vick has signed with the Eagles.

The latest developments in the Michael Vick dog fighting case seem to confirm what I have believed all along, which is that many people in powerful positions are trying to bring the man down. Although Vick is arguably one of the NFL’s greatest players and definitely the league’s most electrifying, his unconventional style of play along with his ability to “keep it real” seem to bother many members of the dominant culture. To put it bluntly, many people do not like him because he does not act white and corporate, and does not play the game like every other quarterback. I have further believed that “those people” have been out to get him for quite some time. Unfortunately, “those people” make up a disproportionately large part of the means that control society, such as the media. ESPN, in particular, has had a vendetta against this guy for at least the past year. From the middle finger incident, to the water bottle incident, and now this, Vick has taken more than his share of criticism. I mean, Kobe Bryant never took this much heat for buying his way out of a rape case. Moreover, the Feds never got involved in that one. They allowed the authorities in Eagle, Colorado to do their job, and there was no independent investigation conducted by the NBA either.

We kick it off at the Ugly American at 8 p.m., where Duane’s World has won two straight weeks following an 8 week domination by L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Rumor has it that the Diabetics will be a little short handed this week, so there may be a chance for a new team to slip into the mix. On to the Bards, where the crowds have started to pick back up a bit, but we’re still not at fall levels, so there are tables to be had. Hey kids, we had a blast on Saturday Night. Thanks to everyone who made it out. We raised $500 for the cause. However, at the end of the night, we still had over a half keg of beer. I’ve kept it on ice since, and we’re gonna have a little shindig tonight to finish it off. Instead of just a regular party, I figured I’d invite a few comedians over and we’d do a little show out in my back yard. We have room for about 15-20 people, so if anybody wants to come over and watch a little comedy, drop me a line and I’ll tell you where it is.  Party starts at 8 p.m. $5 to get in includes beer (duh) and all the money goes to the program.

 
Carl Switzer, who played Alfalfa, was born on this date in 1927. Sadly he was killed under mysterious circumstances in 1959 at age 31. Quick trivia question: What movie classic did he have a brief role in in 1946, when he was 19 years old? Give your guess in the comments (and no looking it up!)

Alright, I’m off to the ballpark. Gonna do a little twittering while there, so if you want to do what all of the “kool kids” are doing, follow isportacus on twitter. As for quizzo, the Power Rankings seem to have lit a fire under the collective asses of the top teams, as we have had several blowouts this week. Tonight, at Ugly American, can L. Ron Hubbard hold onto to their #1 ranking? Action starts at 8 p.m. On to the Bards. Don’t complain about not getting a seat at one of my quizzes, because you can get one at the Bards during the summer while Penn and Temple students are out of school. Once the kids found out today that about 200 people checked the UYA website yesterday and that numerous people left comments, they suddenly took a huge interest in today’s writing assignment. Whereas before we had to plead and cajole them for every sentence, suddenly they are fired up to write the best piece. It’s pretty awesome. So I just wanted to say thanks for reading, and give extra special thanks to those who commented (including Bob!) If you have a free second, please leave a comment underneath a couple of their articles. It’s going to get them fired up about writing. There will be new stuff on the blog next week.
