Big Money Tuesday

If last night was any indication, it’s gonna be a wild week. Wow, packed houses and high scores at both spots. Tonight, we start at O’Neals at 8 p.m. $5 Burritos and quesaillas, and $3.50 Mexican beers, and if the last few weeks are any indication, some real competition. On to the City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. $4 beer specials each week and $100 gift cert for the winners. Oh, and Name that Tune at both spots. See ya tonight!

Quizzo Tonight

Week 2 gets underway tonight at North Star at 7 p.m. Half off mussels and hummus, and I’ll have two tickets to give away to the North Star show of your choice, as well as our regular Name That Tune. If you’re looking for a win in the JGTSI, this is a great opportunity.

On to Sidecar at 9:30. Always a great time. Great food, rotating beers, and a terrific (and pretty damn smart) staff. Still wide open there as well. 5 different winners in the past 5 weeks. Hope to see ya tonight!

The Week In Review, and The Week Ahead

Gonna be an extremely interesting summer, as the Summer Invitational kicks off next week with a quiz unlike any we’ve ever had before. You’re going to be supplying the answers, I’ll supply the questions. There are a ton of questions that I want YOUR answers to over on facebook, so if you haven’t already posted them please do so. (If you’re not a member of the club, just ask to join and I’ll quickly get you in.)

A wild week at quizzo, as our #2 and #3 teams both fell, and our #1 team needed a furious rally in the 4th to come back and win. With that win, they made it 5 straight at Black Sheep and therefore there will be a $15 bounty on them next week.

I also made my debut on Phillies Nation TV this past week. If you haven’t already seen it, please check it out. It came out really well. There will be a new episode airing this Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the Comcast Network (Channel 8).

Also, next Sunday (the 30th) will be our Mad Men quiz at the Trestle Inn. Action starts at 6 p.m., and I’ll be awarding double points in the JGT Invitational to the Top 3 teams.

If you’re looking to start off the Invitational with a win, right now I would highly recommend you play on Monday night. Both North Star and Sidecar are wide slam open. It’s anybody’s ballgame at either, and no dominant teams. And I think I’ve got a pretty badass band lined up for the invitational. More details on that soon. Have a great weekend everybody!

New Questions Posted For Next Week’s Quiz

There’s a new batch of questions on Facebook I need your answers for for next week’s quiz. Starting to write the quiz now. Gonna be pretty wild. Think we’re gonna go with the old fashioned “Joker” rules next week, with 10 questions per topic. I suppose you could study, but there are several hundred responses and only 40 questions, so that would make you crazy. And since I know some of you are Luddites and want to see the questions here on the site, I will oblige. Feel free to shoot me your answers at johnny @ johnnygoodtimes.com.

Other than pets, what is your favorite type of animal?

Where did you attend college?

If you could have dinner with 3 famous people, living or dead, who would they be?

Who are your 3 favorite authors of all time?

Who are the two sexiest celebrities on earth?

Who is your favorite journalist?

What city or country have you visited that you would never ever want to live?

What athlete (past or present) do you despise the most?

What were the 3 worst movies of the 1990s?

French Fry Thursday (And Let’s Watch Game 7 Together at Bards)

A wild week thus far, as both our #2 and #3 teams were knocked off, and our #1 team was down 7 points after three rounds before pulling off a late comeback. A huge opportunity for teams tonight to make a move on the leaderboard. And a quick word to the wise: art* fans, do NOT miss tonight’s quiz!

We kick it off at Industry. We’ll have French Fry Face-off, Name That Tune, and oh by the way a little quizzo. Not to mention $3 beer specials and delicious burgers for a mere $8 (and that price includes fries.) This is absolutely a  GREAT venue for quizzo. If you haven’t played there yet, come on out.

On to the Bards at 9 p.m. YES, GAME 7 WILL BE ON THE BIG SCREEN. $3 Lagers, a great basketball game, Philly’s best quizzo, Name That Tune, and French Fry Face-Off. Can a night get any better than that? I contend that it cannot. And remember, if you played Monday or Tuesday, you are more than welcome to play again tonight. All new quiz. See ya tonight!

*As in “fine art”, not fans of Art Etchells.

Quizzo, Name That Tune Tonight

A wild night last night, as there was a 3-way tie for first at O’Neals, followed by an upset of the Jesters at City Tap House. Will things get that wild tonight? We’ll find out starting at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. $3 Victory HopDevils and $2 Bud cans. ON to Black Sheep at 8:15 p.m. New specials each week and Name That Tune.

Meanwhile there are several new questions over on Facebook this morning.

So I will post the questions I’ve asked so far for “You Supply the Answers Week” and feel free to shoot me an email (Johnny @ Johnnygoodtimes.com) with your responses. (Or, if you do have facebook and haven’t answered them yet, just go here and answer on the facebook page.) I’ll have more questions posted tomorrow.

Next Week’s Quiz is All About You

Gonna kick off the Summer Invitational with a bang…by working backwards. Next week’s quiz, Week 1 of the JGT Summer Invitational, is all about you. I’m gonna ask you about things that you do and don’t like, and I’m gonna make questions out of your answers.

A few days ago, some friends and I were kicking around our Top 5 lists on various topics, from sports to movies to TV and so on. And I thought: this would be a fun way to write a quiz. So here is how it’s gonna work…in the next few days on facebook, I’m gonna be asking you to post your superlatives. Your favorite (and least favorite) movies, TV shows, bands, places you’ve visited, etc. I will then take your answers to those questions and form questions out of them. (i.e. if someone says Godfather is their favorite movie, I may ask a question at next week’s quiz like, “The horse’s head found in what film was delivered to the set from a dog food company?” Or possibly something less weird.)

I hope you’ll contribute…this experiment won’t work without your feedback. And please help me spread the word by clicking “Like” below. The more people who contribute the better.

If you aren’t already a member of the Johnny Goodtimes facebook page, just ask to join and I’ll quickly put you in. Gonna be a great way to get to know you guys better and a fun and unique way to write a quiz. Our format for next week will be quite different than normal. This should be a lot of fun.

Big Money Tuesday Tonight!

We start it off at O’Neals at 8 p.m. $5 burritos and quesadillas, $3.50 margaritas, and $3.50 Mexican beers make for a cheap and fun night out. The quiz is pretty interesting. A bit of pop culture, a bit of sports, and a few wrinkles in between. (Speaking of wrinkles, we’re changing everything for next week’s quiz, which will kick off the Summer Invitational. Details coming this afternoon.) $50 gift certificate for the winners, and it’s anybody’s ballgame. 6 different winners in the past 7 weeks.

On to City Tap House at 10:15. Yes, the Spurs-Heat game will be on while we play quizzo. And yes, there will be great beer specials as always. And yes, I am hoping that the speed round screws up the Jesters of Tortuga, though I certainly won’t count on it. Hope to see you tonight!
