Quizzo Bowl After Party at City Tap House

CITYTAPHOUSE_LOGOQuizzo Bowl afterparty will be just a short cab ride away from the venue. We’ll be throwing down at the City Tap House after all is said and done. 3925 Walnut. Andy has promised us some great drink specials and we’ve got a side room all to ourselves where we can sit and mock the Penn undergrads who will be in the main bar area. Gonna be a great way to celebrate. (Or if the winners are Lambda or the Denver team, mourn.)

Best Dressed Team to Win $75 GC

watering holes-thumb-404x303Just a heads up that the best dressed team at Quizzo Bowl is going to walk away with a $75 gift certificate from the City Tap House. And by “Best Dressed”, I obviously mean, “Most ridiculously or creatively dressed”. A good example would be the Watering Holes, who won Best Dressed two years ago, each going as a different Philadelphia bar. Of course, teams that dress up will get VIP seating as well.

Quizzo Bowl Free Agents

FreeAgentNationBKI know that there are several of you who want to play at Quizzo Bowl but don’t have a full team, or are even just free agents. No worries. The best way to pull a squad together is to go to the Johnny Goodtimes Quizzo Facebook page and list on the wall how many players you have (even if it’s just 1) and say what your specialty is. Then teams looking for players can pick you up. If not, I’ll try to team up teams that night. If you have a team of 5 or less, expect to be teamed up with some drifters. Wanna fit as many people as we can, and to make things easy on my graders, want to keep the number of teams reasonable.

Quizzo Bowl News and Notes

worldcafeWow, where to even begin? Been spending all day trying to get a hold of local celebs. Things are incredibly hectic and yet starting to come together at the same time. I’ve got 4 recorded, and 4 I’m lined up to record. Just gotta find 4 more in the next week. Meanwhile, if you haven’t tweeted Bill Cosby yet, what are you waiting for? Come on people, let’s do this! Nonetheless, the local celebs I’ve gotten so far have been really cool and this is gonna be a really, really fun round. (Assuming, of course, I can finish pulling it off.)

As for tickets, they’re moving quickly, and this thing hasn’t even hit the papers yet. Next week, there will be write-ups in the Daily News, Philly Mag, and Weekly. DO NOT wait until the night of the event to purchase your tickets. Please get them from me next week. About 100 have sold already, and I know of another 75-80 people who are definitely attending. Which means there are about 100 tickets left. This is going to sell out before next Saturday, so be sure to either get your tickets from me or get them online. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Not trying to be a jerk about it, I just want the regulars to get their tickets before it’s too late.

In regular quizzo news, I’ll get scores and avatars up as soon as I can. I’m headed down to VA for a gig tomorrow and then right back on Sunday. The next week is gonna be a whirlwind, but it should pay off with a fun event. Have a great weekend, everybody!

Help Me Get Bill Cosby to Quizzo Bowl

cosbyThings are starting to come together for Quizzo Bowl, and they’re getting really, really interesting. I don’t want to give a whole lot away about what I’ve got percolating, but I do want to ask a favor: please shoot a note to Bill Cosby on twitter and see if we can get him to ask a question at Quizzo Bowl. Now, I know we can’t actually get him there physically, but I just want to see if we can convince him to ask a question at Quizzo Bowl on video. I can’t do this without your help, so if you are on twitter PLEASE send him a note asking him to record a Quizzo Bowl question on video. And even if we can’t land Bill, trust me, we are still going to have a wild card round FOR THE AGES. My guarantee of this being the greatest Quizzo Bowl ever is starting to look like it could be a reality. To be honest, I’m getting a little nervous about how crazy this whole thing is getting. I hope I can pull it all together in the next 10 days. And if there are any local celebrities you’d like to see on the show, let me know. No guarantees, but I’ll give it the ol’ college try. To get your tickets to Quizzo Bowl, you can buy them from me at my various quizzos throughout the week, or you can purchase them online here. Tickets are $25 a pop if you buy from me, $27 if you buy online.

Quizzo Bowl VII: Greatest Hits Tix Now on Sale!

On Saturday, February 19th, we’re headed back to where it all began, the World Cafe Live. And we’re bringing back two of our greatest acts of all time. Haulin’ Oats, who ripped the roof off the Golden Palace in Quizzo Bowl V, are taking it to the next level. In addition to Hall and Oates jams, they are going to be playing all of your favorites from the 80s…though there are rumors of a Motown song or two, just to keep things honest. You think they sounded good in the Golden Palace, wait until you hear these guys shred in an actual music hall. It’s gonna be incredible. Furthermore, we are bringing back our greatest halftime act of all time, Norm Klar, who rocked the house at Quizzo Bowl II! He will be performing his amazing magic/comedy act for our halftime show. He is one of the funniest and most beloved comedians in Philadelphia, and I can’t wait to see him shock and astound again this year.

Of course, in addition to the Lovely Ginger and the Lovely Cookie, Fastball Bob will be returning this year to help co-host the event. (Also, if anyone has any room on their couch or even room in their garage, he could use a place to stay the weekend of the event.)

However, there is one aspect of previous Quizzo Bowls that will NOT be taking place this year. Johnny will NOT be rapping and dancing to open this one. And even if he were rapping, he certainly would not be performing an accompanying dance number with Chip Chantry. Such a thing would be ludicrous, and quite frankly, a bit immature.

Anyways, Johnny will have tickets on sale at Quizzo all week, where he will be selling them. They are $25 a pop. If you can’t make it to quizzo, you can buy them online, though there is a $2 service charge.

Quizzo Bowl Venue and Headliner Announced!

Quizzo Bowl VII Promo from Johnny Goodtimes on Vimeo.

Here’s the info, folks. I’m gonna let Fastball Bob give you the scoop. All of the details and fine print below.

WHERE: World Cafe Live

WHEN: February 19th

WHAT: Quizzo Bowl VII, the preeminent quizzo event in the country.

WHO: You, me, Fastball Bob, Chip, the Lovely Cookie, Chip, and my mom. And since I am making this a “Greatest Hits” Quizzo Bowl, Haulin’ Oats will be performing between rounds. And this year, they’re not just doing Hall and Oates songs. They’re going to be performing all of your favorite jams from the 1980s!

WHY: I thought last year’s Quizzo Bowl was quite good, but not the best. So this year I am pulling out all the stops to make this the greatest Quizzo Bowl ever. More prizes, more entertainers, more exciting questions. In addition to Haulin Oats, I am bringing back the best halftime act we’ve ever had at Quizzo Bowl. I am also bringing in a special guest singer for a cameo. And there will be both live music questions and (hopefully) video questions this year. Like I said, I am pulling out all the stops to make this the greatest Quizzo Bowl event in world history.

SPONSORSHIP: I am still looking for sponsors for this event. If you are interested in sponsoring an event that involves around 300 beer drinkers primarily between ages of 25-45, please drop me a line.

ONE FINAL NOTE: Chip and Johnny will not be rapping or dancing at this event, so don’t get your hopes up.
