We Gotta Kick the Keg Comedy Show Tonight…In My Yard
Hey kids, we had a blast on Saturday Night. Thanks to everyone who made it out. We raised $500 for the cause. However, at the end of the night, we still had over a half keg of beer. I’ve kept it on ice since, and we’re gonna have a little shindig tonight to finish it off. Instead of just a regular party, I figured I’d invite a few comedians over and we’d do a little show out in my back yard. We have room for about 15-20 people, so if anybody wants to come over and watch a little comedy, drop me a line and I’ll tell you where it is. Party starts at 8 p.m. $5 to get in includes beer (duh) and all the money goes to the program.
JGT Quizzo Power Rankings
The advent of the Power Rankings seemed to step up the games of several of our top teams. There were some pretty big shifts in power this week at the top. Here’s how they stand.
1. Duane’s World-A blowout win at the Black Sheep, followed by a come from behind win over L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics at Ugly American. Last week: #2
2. The Jams-They aced both the 3rd and 4th rounds on their way to a 117. Looks like last week’s upset loss was a fluke. Last week: #4
3. Steak ‘Em Up (formerly Stimulate Your Prostate which was formerly the Sofa Kingdom)-A change in name and direction seemed to do the team good on Tuesday, when they had a commanding win. But Thursday night saw them lose by 20, and one team member stormed out early. This is a team still searching for that special something that once made them the most feared team in quizzo. Last week: #5
4. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. They are two questions away from having a 10 game win streak, losing by narrow margins to Duane’s World in back to back weeks. This is still an elite team, despite two losses. Last week: #1
5. Why’s John’s Rum Gone? Last 5 weeks have resulted in 3 wins and two Second Place finishes. This is a team on the rise. Last week: #6
6. Axis of Evil Knieval-Seem to slowly be regaining their swagger. An impressive win at the Bards on Thursday. Last week: NR
7. Quiz on Your Face-An impressive 104 negated by a dominant performance by the Jams. Last Week #7.
8. Same Name as Last Week-Almost a triumphant return to O’Neals, they lost by one question to John’s Rum. This team has the talent to make a serious run at the top spot. Last week: NR.
9. Narcotyzing Dysfunktion-Reputation alone gets these guys in the top 10, after a devastating 30 point loss on Tuesday. Still a premiere team, they just need to get their s*** together. Last week: #8
10. Lambda. They haven’t really shown us much lately, but hey, they have the karate trophy. They gotta get some love for that. A few wins could shoot this team to the top of the leader board in a hurry. Last Week: NR.
Others receiving votes: Hurtin’ Bombs, Sir Lancelost, 1022, Unusual Suspects, Dorksided, Megatouch Myself, Savage Henry

Happy Birthday Alfalfa!
Carl Switzer, who played Alfalfa, was born on this date in 1927. Sadly he was killed under mysterious circumstances in 1959 at age 31. Quick trivia question: What movie classic did he have a brief role in in 1946, when he was 19 years old? Give your guess in the comments (and no looking it up!)
Quizzo Tonight
Alright, I’m off to the ballpark. Gonna do a little twittering while there, so if you want to do what all of the “kool kids” are doing, follow isportacus on twitter. As for quizzo, the Power Rankings seem to have lit a fire under the collective asses of the top teams, as we have had several blowouts this week. Tonight, at Ugly American, can L. Ron Hubbard hold onto to their #1 ranking? Action starts at 8 p.m. On to the Bards. Don’t complain about not getting a seat at one of my quizzes, because you can get one at the Bards during the summer while Penn and Temple students are out of school. Action starts at 10:15 p.m. Hope to see ya tonight.
Thanks!
Once the kids found out today that about 200 people checked the UYA website yesterday and that numerous people left comments, they suddenly took a huge interest in today’s writing assignment. Whereas before we had to plead and cajole them for every sentence, suddenly they are fired up to write the best piece. It’s pretty awesome. So I just wanted to say thanks for reading, and give extra special thanks to those who commented (including Bob!) If you have a free second, please leave a comment underneath a couple of their articles. It’s going to get them fired up about writing. There will be new stuff on the blog next week.
