Checked out our new quizzo-inspired podcast! Each week my buddy Nat the Truth and I do a deep dive on a question we’ve recently asked at quizzo…Week 1 was Leopold and Loeb, Week 2 was Heaven’s Gate. New episodes released weekly, and you can listen to them all here, or on itunes or wherever you listen to podcasts.

A young man I used to coach and I have started a small charity and had our first event over the weekend, a block clean-up at 15th and Allegheny. It was awesome: music, burgers, and a great turnout. The org is called Us Not I, we’re going to be doing a lot of events this spring and summer (and as the weather gets warmer, some crossover quizzo/cleanup events), and I’d love to have you guys follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see what we’re up to.

Yes, I am talking to some outdoor venues about starting up some outdoor quizzes. I am hoping we can be ready to rock and roll in a month or so. In the meantime, we are kicking off April Madness 2. Your team wanna join the fun? You can learn more and sign up here.

April Madness is Back!

Hard to believe, but we’ve been doing this thing for a year now. Which means that tournament time is here! In what we suspect will be our final “full scale” season before returning to some semblance of normal, we’ll determine if Social Distance Warriors can repeat as champions (don’t worry, out-of-towners and suburbanites…we’ll still be running leagues online forever, as longs as there are teams that want to play them). Here’s how it’s going to be set up:

March 14th: Sign-ups for April Madness begin. You can sign up here.

March 21st: Winter Warz Final 

March 22nd-26th: Offseason (one-off quizzes).

March 29th: April Madness starts.

April 1st: First payment due.

March 29th-April 30th: 5 Week Season to determine seedings…not by head to head but by total points.  

May 1st: 2nd payment due.

May 3rd-7th: First round of tourney (All head to heads). 

May 10th-14th: Second week is the 2nd round. Losers brackets begins.

May 17th-21st: Week is the Sweet 16/Final 8.

May 23rd: Final Four quiz (all 4 play at once in both brackets….game airs live).

ROUND ONE (The Wild Card Round) can be played in any of 3 sessions: Monday at 8:00, Tuesday at 8:00, or Tuesday at 9:30 (each team chooses ONE session).The following teams have earned a Wild Card spot:

ROUND TWO (The Semifinals), which can be played in any of 3 sessions: Wednesday at 8:00, Thursday at 8:00, or Thursday at 9:30 (each team chooses ONE session).

The above will battle the ten Round One winners for the right to play for championship glory in the WAR TO END ALL WARZ on Sunday night at 7:30. The top 4 teams per conference (by score/tiebreaker) will advance to this final game.


THE WINTER SNOREZ – a consolation game for all non-playoff teams – will be held this Wednesday at 8 PM. For those who participated in last season’s “Fall Crawl”, you know this’ll be a fun one.

For the championship game on Sunday night, everyone else is welcome to play along from home, as we will stream it live from the Johnny Goodtimes Quizzo Facebook page.

As for our next league, APRIL MAYHEM, you can register for that here. Running from March 29-May 22, we expect this to be our last full-scale Virtual Quizzo season, with 5 “seeding” games culminating in a full-scale March Madness-style tournament, which is how we started things way back when this whole pandemic started. What a year it’s been.
Finally, J Michael, Carl and JGT will be hosting a playoff preview show on Facebook tomorrow night at 6:30. Hope to see ya there.

Community Cleanup on Saturday!

Wanna hang out (Finally!), eat a burger, drink a beer, and do some good for the community? Join us at 1505 West Allegheny on Saturday at noon. We’ll have gloves and garbage bags, we’ll have the grill, we’ll have tunes, and we’ll have some beers. Hope to see ya there!

Also: Philly activist Nasir Bell and are going to be doing a lot of community activities this summer and fall. If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that if we ever want Philly to change for the better, it’s up to us…the government, the corporations, the local sports teams, etc. aren’t going to do shit. So we started a little group where we’ll be updating all of the stuff we’ll be working on in the next few months. And I really hope you’ll join us…the other thing we learned this past year is that we’ve got a really special community here, and I think we can use it as not just an opportunity to answer trivia questions, but to do some good in the city we call home. Tonight at 7:30, we’ll be looking at all of our playoff scenarios with two weeks to go in the season, discussing which teams we think could win it all, and letting you know about our next Quizzo season. Tune in on Facebook.

2nd Half Topics

We spun the wheel with your suggestions last night on Facebook, and above is what we came up with. We also took a look at our standings halfway through the Winter Warz and talked about which teams we expect to make a second half surge. Oh, and we had a visit from Bobby the 38% French and German, which Johanna of Lambda said was “incredibly stupid but kind of funny” which I think might be our new company tagline.
