First Place: Magnus ver Magnusson 97
Savage Ear Gets a Big Win at O’Neals
Great Chance to Earn Points Tonight!
Action starts at the Ugly American at 8 p.m., and while L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics are the early favorites, they have been in a bit of a slump lately. A 2-person team actually took the gold last week. What does that mean? That means that after a ridiculously packed Black Sheep last night, tonight could be the night where your team has a better chance to score some points and head into the holiday on the scoreboard. All drafts are a dollar off during quizzo.
On to the Black Sheep. Let’s not kid ourselves. Steak Em Up is the favorite. But, a couple of things to keep in mind: first of all, they are not unstoppable. In fact, they lost just last Thursday. Secondly, even if they win, there is certainly a great chance for your team to finish 2nd and still earn 3 points. There has been no consistent team at the Bards other than Steak Em Up, so 2nd and 3rd place are wide open. Also, Lagers are $2.50. Tough to beat.
And of course, ALL NEW QUESTIONS TONIGHT. That means that if you played earlier this week, you are more than welcome to make another go at it. Hope to see you tonight. And of course we’ll be giving away french fries. Assuming someone reminds me.
Summer Invitational Scores Heading Into Tonight’s Action
20 more points were handed out last night, 20 more being handed out tonight. We’ve got an interesting leader board, including a surprise leader. Magnus ver Magnusson not only won last night, they also showed me a picture of their dog before anyone else could. At the Black Sheep, Cornbread Mafia and Unusual Suspects were both able to show me pictures of their cats before anyone else to earn points, while Newman’s Own scored the big 5 points with a narrow win. Here’s the Top 10 teams heading into tonight. All new quiz tonight, so anyone who played earlier this week is welcome to play again and try to earn more points! Full scoreboard coming tomorrow.
- Magnus ver Magnusson 6
- Steak Em Up 5
- Savage Ear 5
- Newman’s Own 5
- Group W 5
- Duane’s World 4

Question of the Week
The First Annual JGT Summer Invitational!
25 teams will be invited to the First Annual JGT Summer Invitational, which will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, August 15th at the Urban Saloon, and which will award an $800 purse (and the prestigious “Milton Street Memorial Cup”). But you must earn your invite. Here’s how: In the next 7 weeks, we will keep track of all of our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Teams. Teams will get 5 points for a first place finish, 3 points for a 2nd place finish, and teams that finish 3rd will get one point. Furthermore, I may very well throw in a few more fun ways for teams to earn points, just to add a little intrigue. The Top 25 scoring teams after 7 weeks get an invite. In addition, the Top 10 scoring teams over the next several weeks will be entered in a drawing to win another $200 in cash*. $400 for 1st Place at the Invitational, $200 for 2nd place, and $200 for the drawing. (Yes, there will be an entry fee to the event, but only like $10, to help maybe get us a little entertainment.)
To play in the Invitational itself, each player on the team must have played with the team at least once (Unless you have a player coming in from out of state for the event) in the previous 7 weeks. For the next several weeks, please come up with a team name that you are happy with so I can keep track of your team more easily. This is going to be a lot of fun, and kicks off with quizzo at the Westbury tonight at 10:15 p.m. Get your best team together. Remember, you can have up to 8 people on a team. Call your nerd friends and tell them you really need their help for the next two months. And spread the word by clicking “Like” below!
*You must be present at the Invitational to win the drawing.
Quizzo Tonight at the Westbury
The Invitational kicks off tonight at the Westbury, where a last place finish last week due to a Musical Theatre Round led to the round of my choice this week. Here’s the details, from quizmaster Mike Minion.
Once again, JGT put together a team to play my quizzo last week, and once again, the result was , shall we say, less than spectacular. After all, last place is “less than spectacular”, is it not? The upshot is that he and his cronies got to pick this week’s theme round. Being the highbrow intellectuals that they are, they chose a topic that virtually defines the literati -PRO WRESTING. So put down your glass of merlot, pick up a PBR, and come on over to The Westbury tonight for a round of wrasslin’. The steel-cage brain slam starts at 10:30. For you wrestling fans, that’s when the little hand is between the 10 and the 11 and the big hand is straight down. Oh, and make sure the sun is down, because the clock looks like that TWICE a day. Anyway, prizes are $40 for first and $20 for second, and (as usual) there will be plenty of good beer specials. Hope to see you there. P.S. Don’t tell anyone, but I actually LOVE pro wrestling. But let’s just keep that between us, shall we?
JGT Power Rankings
A huge week of upsets has wreaked havoc on the power rankings.
- Steak Em Up. A loss on Thursday doesn’t knock them out of the catbird seat. Last week: #1
- L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. A win on Tuesday, a shocking loss on Thursday. Still, they move up one spot. Last week: #3
- Grab Your Ankles, I Want to Put It Innuendo. I don’t remember any team playing their first ever JGT quizzo…and beating Steak Em Up. Who the hell are these guys? Does Steak Em Up finally have a rival? Last week: NR
- Magnus ver Magnusson. Last week not even a blip on the radar, this week a Top 5 ranking. Funny what a win over the Jams can do for you. Last week: NR
- Newman’s Own. The JGTQCS computer almost exploded this week, with another team playing for the first time pulling off a win, this time at Black Sheep. Furthermore, they make a hell of an Italian dressing. Last week: NR
- Tube Sock. A 2 person team that had won a 98 Degrees CD just a couple of weeks ago for last place pulls off an Upset for the Ages at the Ugly American and finds themselves in the most prestigious power rankings on earth.
- The Jams. Picked a bad week to lose by a mere 2. With so many upset winners they drop to 7th. Last week: #4
- Duane’s World. A 2nd place finish at Westbury was acceptable, but a rare out of the money finish at the Sheep sends their stock tumbling. Last week: #2
- Savage Ear. O’Neals former Lone Stars stuck in a 2nd Place rut. But at least Annie got her gift certificate. Last week: #6
- My Couch Pulls Out But I Don’t. Another team comes out of nowhere to impress at the Black Sheep, losing by only two. Last week: NR
