Quizzo News and Notes

Picture 9First of all, the JGTAI rolls on tonight at the Westbury with Mike Minion. Great beer specials as always and of course a friendly face behind the bar in the form of JohnniE. Mike has informed me that tonight the 3rd Round will be a Mystery Round. Seeing as how there are few people I know as mysterious as Mike Minion, this should be interesting.

Secondly, tomorrow night will be our final Tuesday night quiz at the Bards. I will still be doing the Thursday night quiz, but Paddy and I talked and decided that we’d get more bang for our buck with one quiz a week there. I am already in talks with a few other places and will hopefully have a new spot lined up soon. I’m looking to try somewhere new, maybe West Philly, Art Museum, or NoLibs. I’ve got Center City more or less on lockdown, so I wanna diversify a bit if possible.

Ok, I’m working on JGTAI scores as we speak. Should have them up in the next hour or so.

Finally be sure to check out the latest post I did over at isportacus, about Philadelphia’s disappointment in Cole Hamels for not throwing a no-hitter.Funny stuff.

Tripleheader Tonight!

frenchfryvousWe’re going back to the days of yore with tonight’s action, as we’re going tripleheader style. Can it be as amazing as last night? Gonna be hard to beat. Get this: A couple of hours after Roy wrapped up his no-no, Duane’s World became the first team in Black Sheep history to record a perfect score. In fact, they are the first team to record a perfect score outside of that notorious pitcher’s ballpark known as the Bards. The funny thing is that this came two nights after they scored a record team low 50 on Monday night. It’s a funny game, that quizzo.

And it continues tonight at three different venues. We kick it off at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. ($3 Abita Purple Haze, $2 Narragansett Lager), then move to the Ugly American at 8 p.m. (Dollar off all drafts). We wrap it up at the Bards at 10:15 p.m. ($2.50 Lagers and Miller Lites.) It’s gonna be a long Doctober. Might as well get your livers in shape now.

UPDATE: Rounds Two and Three will both be in honor of Halladay, but neither will be a sports round. It’s gonna be a fun quiz tonight. Hope to see ya there.

Celebrate Phils Win With Quizzo Tonight

phillies Barring extra innings or something silly, the Phils should be wrapped up by 8 p.m. That’ll give ya plenty of time to make it to the Black Sheep for tonight’s quizzo, which has been moved back to 9 p.m. to accomodate the beisbol. (The quizzo for the Rendezvous has been moved to Thursday at 6:15 p.m.) Speaking of the Phils, I just posted a Reds quiz over in isportacus if anyone wants to test their knowledge of the Phils’ opponents. And remember, you can score JGTAI points while watching the game tonight. How? Check out the latest Facebook Physical Challenge. And Let’s Go Phils!

JGTAI Enters Week 3 Tonight!

autumninvite1We’re back in business, as Week 3 of the JGT Autumn Invitational kicks off tonight. We get it started at O’Neals at 8 p.m. Truth be told, O’Neals and Black Sheep may be the best bars to score some points. Lots of parity at both places. Also, $3.50 Mexican Beers at O’Neals. We move to Bards at 10:15 p.m. where Lagers are $2.50 and they’ve started putting some new and interesting beers on tap lately (Try the Sly Fox Oktoberfest.) Also, you’re not going to get an easier opportunity to score a few points than this week’s facebook challenge. And keep in mind that Mike Minion will be hosting quizzo at the Terrace Taproom tonight at 7:30 p.m. Beat the rainy day blues with a little quizzo tonight!

Schedule Changes This Week!

charlieWell, it’s that time of year again. My favorite time of the year as a sports fan and my least favorite time of the year as a businessman, since I usually have to cancel a fair amount of quizzes. The good news is that we won’t have to miss any quizzes this week, but we do have to make a couple of minor changes. Locust Rendezvous quiz has been moved to Thursday at 6:15 p.m. That’s right, I’m pullin’ the old tripleheader Thursday. Also, Black Sheep Wednesday is still on, but will be pushed back an hour, so we’ll begin at 9 p.m. on Wednesday. So you can celebrate Doc’s complete game 4 hitter (I’m calling it) by keeping the party going at quizzo. So here is the week’s schedule:

TUESDAY

  • O’Neals 8 p.m.
  • Bards 10:15 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

  • Black Sheep 9 p.m.

THURSDAY

  • Locust Rendezvous 6:15 p.m.
  • Ugly American 8 p.m.
  • Bards 10:15 p.m.

JGTAI Scoreboard After Two Weeks and Other Quizzo News and Notes

IMG_2150Here’s the scores after two weeks in the JGTAI (Blue teams are in the Top 10, Yellow in the Top 25, and orange teams have scored but not qualified for Top 25). After two weeks, we’ve already had more teams score than we had total in the JGT Summer Invitational. The addition of the Numbers Runners is really making things interesting. It also means that if you haven’t started already, you need to get your team together stat. There is still plenty of time, as a 2nd place finish will put you in the Top 25, but don’t let yourself get too far behind. I would definitely suggest you play this coming week.

The team above, the Expendables, are getting special mention this week because of their remarkable performance on Thursday night. They got 3 of the first 4 questions right, then missed 34 of the next 36. That included a 1 for 10 performance in the 50/50 round. The topic was Tennessee and Kentucky, and they are both from Europe. Therefore each question in that round was essentially a toss up. That means that the odds of missing 9 straight (as they did) stand at a remarkable 0.19%, or 500 to 1.  (The odds of any random person you meeting having the same birthday as you is 0.3%*)

Also, congrats to CatDog, who won last Monday’s Cheater’s Quiz. It earned them double points in the JGTAI, and more importantly, we were able to raise $435 for the Spells Writing Lab. Extra special thanks to everyone who came out. Hope to see ya this week!
