jgtlebronNeedless to say, people all across Philadelphia have been wondering where Johnny Goodtimes will land on Tuesday nights at 10:15 p.m. But instead of just announcing it, JGT decided to get interviewed by Jim Gray so he could talk a bit more about himself. Here is the transcript of that interview, with the decision after the jump.

Thank you very much. Everybody is on pins and needles across the country, particularly those bars who are in the running for Johnny Goodtimes. Are you ready to go Johnny? Where is the powder?

What powder?

The baby powder you throw into the air before each quizzo.

I don’t do that. Someone could slip and fall on the powder and then I’d find myself in legal trouble.

What have you thought about this process?

This process has been everything I’ve thought and more. I enjoy any process that revolves around me, Johnny Goodtimes. Did I mention that I’m donating all of the money earned from this interview to  the Orphans of Oddfellows?

You weren’t able to be recruited because you went straight to Quizmaster from a job waiting tables while dressed in a colonial outfit. Have you enjoyed this recruiting process now?

I have enjoyed it. It’s been an unbelievable experience, a real humbling experience to be even to be in this position. But I’m sure it’s even more humbling for the bars that have had a chance to talk to me. 

How many people know your decision right now?

Not many. It’s a very, very small number. I probably could count them on my fingers.

One hand or two hands?

Well, I would use one hand to count the fingers on the other hand, so would that count as one or two?

When did you decide?

I think I decided this morning. I mean, I decided this morning, but I went day to day. I wake up one morning, it’s this bar. I wake up another morning, it’s this bar. I wake up another morning, and I can’t find my toothbrush. So then I go to Walgreens and buy a new one. And while I’m there I pick up some dog food. What was the question again?

So the last time you changed your mind was yesterday?

The last time I changed my mind was probably in my dreams. As real as it may seem. It was only in my dreams.

Who in this process, Johnny, have you taken advice from and who has had the biggest influence?

I’ve taken a lot of advice from my friends and family. And there was a guy in Rittenhouse yesterday that was mumbling something about government mind control. He seemed to know what he was talking about, so I took some advice from him. 

Would you like to sleep on it a little longer, or are you ready to make this decision?

That depends. Who would I be sleeping with?

Are you still a nail biter?

I’ve never bit my nails.

You’ve had everybody else biting their nails. So I guess it’s time for them to stop chewing. The answer to the question everybody wants to know: Johnny, what’s your decision?

Physical Challenges and Next Week’s Schedule!

autumninviteThe Fall Classic is going to be an event that you simply do not want to miss. I am going to have an AWESOME musical performer, it’s gonna be at a great venue, and as people will tell you who went to the first one, the event itself is a lot of fun. However, only the top 20-25 teams are going to get an invite. After 4 weeks, if you haven’t really scored many points yet, it is not quite panic time but it is getting there. HOWEVER, you can exit panic mode and enter contender mode quite easily. You can score 7 points by Monday w/o playing any quiz at all. To score three points, simply make a team avatar. This can be as simple as a photo that best defines your team name. For another four points, you can get a photo taken in front of one of the most recognizable landmarks in Philadelphia. To find out what that is, go to the JGT fan page on facebook. It won’t take long, and will make you a contender instead of a pretender.

IN OTHER QUIZZO NEWS: The schedule next week is going to pretty wild and wacky due to Phils/Giants, but could be kind of fun. This lineup is assuming that the NLCS goes at least 5 games. If the Phillies sweep, Thursday will be back to normal.

“The Decision” Coming Tomorrow, and Other Quizzo Notes

Great crowds last night. Hope we can keep it going tonight at French Fry Thursday. The party starts at the Ugly American at 8 p.m. All drafts a dollar off. Onto the Bards at 10:15 p.m. The Bards just revamped their entire menu and are starting to get adventurous with their beer selection. Come check it out.

As you know, I am only doing the one quiz a week at Bards now, which means that I had to go out and get a new quiz. Where will it be? Northern Liberties? South Philly? Old City? The whole world is waiting with baited breath. So I have decided to announce the decision on a show I call “The Decision”. It will air tomorrow afternoon live, with me being interviewed by Jim Gray, or someone similar if Jim isn’t able to do it. Be sure to tune in and find out where I will be on Tuesdays starting next week.

We’ve also had a lot of JGT quiz-goers get married recently that I want to acknowledge. Gonna do that tomorrow as well. Gotta get to work on questions. Hope to see ya tonight!

Tree Fo’ Fo’: JGT Unveils His 2010 Phillies Rap


As you may remember, I released a dope rhyme last year when the Phillies came back to beat the Rockies in the NLDS. Then, before the Series, I released a cheesy one about the team. I’m getting back to the dope stuff with this one. In case you are unaware, Tree Fo’ Fo’ is an homage to the great Moses Malone, who, when asked how the Sixers would do in the 1983 NBA Playoffs, responded simply “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’,” indicating that the Sixers would win every game. Is This The Most Important Week in the JGTAI?

autumninviteQuite possibly. This is a big week. The next two weeks are completely up in the air due to the Phillies, so this is the week for you to make a move. Tonight, we are at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. I know for a fact that the Jams will be shorthanded this week, so this could be a great opportunity to score some points. On to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Duane’s World has been hot lately, and are coming off a historic performance. But they can certainly be beaten. It looks like we’re going to have to downsize to 20 teams getting an invite. Before you think that means you are out of it, think again. Two teams scored their first points last night and are now in the top 25, and several teams that make the cut are either going to consolidate or not make it. (If you finish in the Top 25, I am quite confident you will get an invite. After that, however, no promises). Furthermore, there are a total of 7 points that can be earned this week in physical challenges on facebook, including a brand new one. So get your team in gear. Time is of the essence.

JGTAI Rolls Into Week 4

photoThere they are, folks. The illustrious JGTAI Trophies, the only ones like them in the world. And one team is going to be going home with them, as well as prize worth $300, on November 14th. I am in talks with several places right now, and should have a venue by the end of the week, so be sure to check back. Also, I am waiting to see what the Phillies schedule is going to be next week, as it will undoubtedly affect our quiz. But this week we are looking good and all quizzes will be as scheduled. In case you missed it, the JGTAI scores are up. Don’t worry, even if you haven’t scored, there is still time. But I would definitely get a game in this week. As for tonight, a great chance to put up points at O’Neals. We have yet to establish a consistent winner there for months. Action starts at 8 p.m. On to Bards, where we’ll be doing our final Tuesday quiz tonight at 10:15 p.m. (We will still have the quiz on Thursday.) Already talking to a few bars about a new Tuesday spot. Hopefully we’ll have something soon. Also, Mike Minion hosts tonight at Terrace Taproom at 8 p.m. The theme is Star Wars. Ok, so here’s something that’s both a lot of fun and a great way to get bonus points in the JGTAI. We’ve been doing photos of the winners on the site for years, and quite frankly, it’s run its course. Last week I forgot to take photos at the Bards, and instead had to post ridiculous photos. It was kind of fun, and added a little flair to the site. So I thought, “Let’s have each team have an avatar instead of a weekly photo.” Geeky? You’re damn right it is. So here’s the deal. Either you can create your own avatar or I’ll do one for you. If you want to do your own, it’s quite easy, and it will earn you 3 points in the JGTAI. Just go to befunky.com and play around a bit.
