Sex, Drugs and Rock’n’Roll Quiz All Week

SEXDRUGSROCKAs loathe as I am to give any praise to Mike Minion, I have to give credit where credit is due. His Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll Quiz last night was so much fun I’ve decided to steal his idea. It’s like when Edison stole all that stuff from Nikola Tesla, so Tesla responded by stealing the song “Signs” from Five Man Electrical Band. It’s a vicious cycle.

Where was I? Oh yes, all of this week’s questions will be about Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll. Ok, and maybe a question or two on snow. We’re gonna have a lot of fun, and yes we are quizzing tonight, no matter how much it snows. We start at O’Neals at 8 p.m. Lots of parity, lots of snow, and $3.50 margaritas should make for a fun night, especially if you win the $50 gift certificate.

We move to City Tap House at 10:15 p.m., where the biggest prize in the city is situated. $100 GC for first place, and $50 GC for 2nd. Should be a full on blizzard by that point, and a great place to watch it out their enormous windows. Oh, and their $10 pizza and a beer deal is tough to beat, as are $3 Sly Foxes.

Mike Minion will be bringing his questions to Manyunk tonight at 8 PM: Debauchery Week continues starting at 8:00 PM at the corner of Terrace and Salignac in Manayunk.  Last night’s scores were pretty high, proving the quizzo crowd knows their vices.  I’m expecting more of the same, plus the Challenge Round is already starting with 40 “points” in the bank.  This is a fun topic, so come out and prove you’re a degenerate of the first rank by winning the quiz tonight.  Hope to see ya there!

Quizzo Bowl Venue and Headliner Announced!

Quizzo Bowl VII Promo from Johnny Goodtimes on Vimeo.

Here’s the info, folks. I’m gonna let Fastball Bob give you the scoop. All of the details and fine print below.

WHERE: World Cafe Live

WHEN: February 19th

WHAT: Quizzo Bowl VII, the preeminent quizzo event in the country.

WHO: You, me, Fastball Bob, Chip, the Lovely Cookie, Chip, and my mom. And since I am making this a “Greatest Hits” Quizzo Bowl, Haulin’ Oats will be performing between rounds. And this year, they’re not just doing Hall and Oates songs. They’re going to be performing all of your favorite jams from the 1980s!

WHY: I thought last year’s Quizzo Bowl was quite good, but not the best. So this year I am pulling out all the stops to make this the greatest Quizzo Bowl ever. More prizes, more entertainers, more exciting questions. In addition to Haulin Oats, I am bringing back the best halftime act we’ve ever had at Quizzo Bowl. I am also bringing in a special guest singer for a cameo. And there will be both live music questions and (hopefully) video questions this year. Like I said, I am pulling out all the stops to make this the greatest Quizzo Bowl event in world history.

SPONSORSHIP: I am still looking for sponsors for this event. If you are interested in sponsoring an event that involves around 300 beer drinkers primarily between ages of 25-45, please drop me a line.

ONE FINAL NOTE: Chip and Johnny will not be rapping or dancing at this event, so don’t get your hopes up.

At the Westbury, Sell Your Soul for Rock ‘n’ Roll…

Sex-drugs-and-rock-n-roll-…and Sex and Drugs, of course.  To be more accurate, test your knowledge of these perennial favorites, and sell your soul for a $40 first prize.  That’s right, now that Christmas is safely behind us, it’s time to be naughty.  Tonight’s ENTIRE quiz is devoted to those things that can earn you a lump of coal: Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The action gets underway at 10 PM.  Yes, I know the BCS championship is on tonight, and on the off chance you enjoy  two teams playing for a subjective “National Championship”, worry not, the game will be on at the Westbury.  As always, the beer specials will be some of the best in the city, JohnniE will be behind the bar, and there will be a special “Bonus” round. See ya tonight, rock ‘n’ rollers. -Mike Minion

Face Off for French Fries

frenchfry1-1Hard to make heads or tails of it, but on the normally slowest week of the year, we had two of our most insanely packed quizzos in months last night. Not sure if it was my promise of an easy quiz or the lure of the Face Off, but we were rocking last night. Hoping it continues tonight at Ugly American at 8 p.m. and Bards at 10:15. Of course, tonight we’ll have two face-offs, with one for the prize and the other one coming for french fries. All new quiz tonight, so feel free to play again. $2 Lagers at Ugly American, and 2 Jack Frost Big Boulder passes to give away tonight at Bards. And I’m not sure yet, but I’m feeling a mystery round potentially in the making. Hope to see ya tonight!

Back in Business

2010filmHad the night off last night due to that embarrassing Eagles game, so I went to play the Big Quiz Thing (movie edition) at World Cafe Live. Really was a lot of fun (Koob did a write up about the last one.) We had the lead all game, but at the end they make each of the top 3 teams pick a member to go up front and answer questions, and first one to answer 2 correctly wins. I like the game show aspect, and may use something like it at Quizzo Bowl, but not to determine the outcome of the game. I wasn’t crazy about that part of it. But the rest of it was very entertaining.

But needless to say, while New York runs a fine little quiz, we are in the Quizzo Capital of the World. So come out tonight and play the real deal, will ya? At the Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. $3 Victory Pints and $2 Bud Lights 16 ouncers. Then we move to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m., where those who played last week got to hear me tell some screaming moron to go back to Jersey. I’m gonna give away a few more prizes tonight in a variety of ways, and the quiz will have a very “Year in Review” feel to it, though not all questions will be Year in Review themed. One quiz this week. My long time husband roommate Trivia Art just moved out, so we have a lot of reorganizing to do around the house. That means that 4 quizzes, and 4 different winners this week. Question of the week coming soon. Hope to see ya tonight!

No Quizzo Tonight

snowThanks to the NFL in it’s infinite wisdom moving a Philly game in late December to night time, the Eagles are playing on a Tuesday night for the first time since 1944. Well, that’s all fine and good for the NFL, but crappy for a quizmaster. Quizzo at O’Neals and City Tap House is cancelled for this week. Update: Mike’s quiz at Terrace Taproom is also cancelled tonight due to the game.

Everything on Wednesday and Thursday is on as planned. Your best chance to win? Unquestionably the Ugly American on Thursday. Schedule for this week is below. And yes, I would expect another “Year in Review” type round.

WEDNESDAY

Locust Rendezvous 6:15 p.m.

Black Sheep 8 p.m.

THURSDAY

Ugly American 8 p.m.

Bards 10:15 p.m.

Hope to see ya this week!

Everything’s Coming Up Christmas!

jgtOne of my favorite things ever posted on the site. A few years ago, the Donspiracist decided to research that age old question: Is Santa Claus real? His findings may surprise you.

Speaking of classics, how about the old Saturday Night Live sketch with the “Lost Ending” to It’s a Wonderful Life?

Here’s some fun It’s a Wonderful Life trivia on imdb. Did you know that the ending song was originally going to be Ode to Joy?

In case you missed it, here’s the Christmas True/False quiz I posted a few days ago.

Have a Merry Christmas everybody! See ya next week!

Quizzo for the Cause

manna-logo200

This week we will be raising money for MANNA, the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutritional Alliance. I am asking everyone playing this week to please donate a dollar to this cause. If we can raise $300, we can help supply food to someone with AIDS, cancer, chronic kidney disease or other life threatening illness for no charge for two months. For more information, go to MANNAPA.org. Thanks in advance for your contribution.

My Last Quizzo as a Free Man

funny-marriage Great night for quizzo. We kick it off at Ugly American at 8 p.m. If you are wondering where your best chances to win are, this is the place. L. Ron Hubbard has been scarce there lately, and it has created a power vacuum. Last week a team of two guys were winning heading into the final question. Anyone can win at the Ugly American. And certainly anyone can eat and drink there. The corn dogs are a dollar (you heard me right) and the Lagers are $2.

We move to the Bards at 10:15, where we’ve enjoyed quite a renaissance since we scaled back to one quiz a week. We’ve been having a lot of fun there lately. And with my impending nuptuals, tonight’s wild card round will be very, very loosely based on my upcoming marriage. Gonna be a fun quiz. Hope to see ya tonight!
