It’s that time of year again! Time to move the quiz at City Tap outdoors. And so that’s exactly what we’re gonna do, starting at 10:15 p.m. Keep in mind, too, that the youngsters are gone for the summer, so the sheer madness that was CTH quizzo for a while is been replaced by a much more laid back vibe. Looking forward to doing it outdoors starting tonight. And winners get $100 gift cert.

But first we start at O’Neals. Action starts at 8 p.m. Great specials tonight, as we have $5 nachos, tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. We also have $3.50 Mexican beers to go with it. And of course Philly’s best quizzo, and the front door open letting the summer air in. $50 gift cert to the winners. Hope to see ya tonight!

SO WHAT’S THE DEAL? It’s our semi-annual invitational where our regulars from different bars all come together to complain about Steak Em Up enjoy the fellowship of their fellow nerds from different bars across the city. We’ll get together, have a few beers, eat a few pizzas, share a few laughs, answer a few questions, and then discuss how much we loathe Steak Em Up enjoyed the musical duo.

DID YOU SAY LIVE MUSIC? Yes, I did. Ali Wadsworth and Joe Bisirri will be cranking out the tunes and helping us out a bit with the musical round. You can listen to Ali above or check out this article about her in Philly Weekly.

SO WHAT’S THE DAMAGE? $10.

$10 TO ANSWER QUESTIONS IN A TRIVIA SETTING? IT SEEMS LIKE KIND OF A SCAM. Some of that money will go towards the band and some of it will go toward the prizes. And also I had to cancel quizzo at the Bards Thursday because we were so slow and so I need to make some money on Sunday or I’m never going to be able to get those snow tires I’ve had my eyes on. And we’ll make it up to ya with killer drink specials and fun times that are funny.
WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THE WEATHER? As of now, it’s a 50% chance of rain. When they give a 50% chance of rain, it means they have no idea what they’re talking about and are just flipping a coin. The weather will be fine. But, if it’s not, we’ll just move the party indoors and blame the rain on Steak Em Up Milli Vanilli.

I THOUGHT THEY CHANGED THEIR NAME TO JESTERS OF TORTUGA. They haven’t earned enough enmity under the new name.

SO LET’S HAVE SOME FUN! Yes. Let’s!

Well here it is. It’s all or nothing. You’ve got two shots left to earn an invite to Sunday’s event (More details on the event coming soon, including our musical performer). Actually, you have three shots left. You can either win at Industry or Bards, or you can come up with the best team name. Which shouldn’t be hard. In case you missed it, I am giving away one Invite to the team that has the best team name this week. And nobody has come up with anything decent all week that I can recall off the top of my head. I’ll doublecheck them tomorrow, but so far so bad.

Your first shot to earn an invite is to win at Industry (6:30 p.m. Still no dominant team. And freaking excellent burgers for $8) At 9, we move to the Bards. $3 Lagers. Rumor is that the Jesters of Tortuga will not be there, so there is an excellent chance for you to get a win. There really has not been a solid 2nd place team, so it’s anybody’s ballgame. And of course a good team name at either spot just drastically improves your odds. The show is gonna be a lot of fun on Sunday. Your team should try to make it happen.

I was at that big PIFA block party in April on Broad Street shooting a video with Groundswell and Philly in Focus. Here’s the end result of that. Trivia on the stoop. Pretty funny. Check out who the one guy thought beat Muhammad Ali. I kinda like the way it turned out. It would be fun to make this a regular show.

Last night was one for the ages, as the teams that won at both the Vous and at Black Sheep have been playing weekly for over a year and had never won before (Electric Mayhem at Vous, Jitney Spears at Sheep). This seems to be the ultimate upset quiz. So it’s hard to predict what’s going to go down tonight. The 50/50 round is for most teams a bit of a crapshoot, the music round is a lot of fun, and the impossible round ends with a bit of a twist.

Also worth mentioning…this is the final night of the Invitational, and there are several teams right on the bubble who desperately need a win to make the final cut. Tempura House, Ruby Tuesday’s, Top Hat Fancy, Savage Ear, Sharktoberfest, Specific Jawns…we have a lot of big name teams that really need a win to make the cut. Best place to make it happen? The Industry at 6:30 p.m. EXCELLENT hamburgers for a mere $8. Happy hour specials until 7.

On to Bards at 9, where there is talk of a Jesters of Tortuga super-team forming. If you can knock them off tonight…you could really make a name for yourself, and this is just the quiz where you could do it. $3 Lagers. Hope to see ya tonight!

Yeah, I know they’re all freaking awesome. I write them, don’t I? But this one is even more awesome than my typically awesome quiz. This one is, for all intents and purposes, SUPER AWESOME. Yeah, I said it. If you love music, do NOT miss this quiz.

O’Neals at 8 p.m. If you have dreams of making the cut for the Invitational, then get your butt out to O’Neals tonight and try to get the win. On to City Tap House at 1-:15. Now sure what to expect. I assume the youngsters have exams this week, so it may be a bit lighter than last week, when it was completely out of control. But we’ll see. Seriously, do not miss this quiz. It’s a heck of a lot of fun.

Here we go! Last week of the JGTSpI, and plenty of plot lines developing. Here are the current scores. While at least one of our bubble teams should get in, I’m not sure how many more than that will make the cut. Most of the teams currently in the Top 18 attend the invitationals. So teams like Tempura House, Ruby Tuesdays, Top Hat Fancy, Always Finish 4th, Savage Ear, really need to bring their A-games this week. Of course, if you’re really trying to earn an invite, there is a new physical challenge posted on facebook. And Madame Butterface is currently in position to earn an invite simply by scoring physical challenge points, so those points really do add up, and could mean the difference between making the cut and staying home next Sunday.
