An interesting week so far, with the Jams finally falling at the Vous and brand new winners at O’Neals. Should continue tonight with an all new food and beer quiz. And needless to say, I will be giving away french fries at both bars. We kick it off at Ugly American at 8 p.m. $3 lagers and a packed house last week made for a great night. Let’s keep it going tonight. On to the Bards at 10:15, where you won’t be forced to stare at my ugly mug all night. You’ll get to spend a round with the lovely Felicia D’Ambrosio, managing editor at Grid Philly and guest host for a round tonight. And tonight’s French Fry faceoff at the Bards will be a little different…you’ll need to beat Felicia in a food quiz to win those fries. Action starts at 10:15 p.m. Gonna be a fun night. Hope to see you there!
UPDATE: And keep in mind, Koob and Kristy will be hosting a Mob Movie quiz at Drinker’s Old City starting at 8 tonight as well. If you know your gangster flicks, don’t miss this one.
The Wire quiz on Sunday was awesome, but I know some people wanted to play but couldn’t either because of the time or because they couldn’t find a seat. So Friday we’ll do a more intimate version of the same quiz (If you played Sunday, don’t come, cause it’ll be the same questions.) So at 7 p.m. on Friday, I’ll be hosting the Wire quiz at the Ugly American. It was a very fun quiz, so if you’re a big Wire fan and couldn’t make it on Sunday, this is your chance to see what you know. It’s all in the game, yo.
We start the JGT Summer Invitational tonight at O’Neals at 8 p.m. $3.50 margaritas and a $50 certificate for the winner. On to the City Tap House, which has been a lot quieter since the kids ran home to the hills. That means that getting your hands on the richest bounty in the city just got quite a bit easier. I’ll put it this way: 3rd place last week scored 48 points, and got a $25 gift certificate. $3 Sly Fox and a great pizza special. Not to mention that anyone who can knock off L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics will earn an extra $15 in prizes. That’s on top of the insane $100 first place certificate. I would highly recommend you making an appearance at the CTH tonight.
This Wire quiz has taken on a life of its own, as it seems to have created more buzz than any other quiz I’ve ever done. I’ve given the details out earlier, but here’s the Cliff Notes of what you need to know: Event starts at the POPE at 7. I would suggest you get there by then. It’s going to fill up early. I’m working on it now, and I think it’s gonna be a good one. But definitely get there early. We’ll get started around 8:30 or so.
If Sci-Fi is your thing, a good night for that as well, as Mike Minion is hosting a Sci-Fi quiz tonight at the Ugly American. Questions on classics as well as the hilariously bad. He’ll also have a set of the first 3 Alien movies to give away. That starts at Ugly American at 8 p.m.
Ok, so there’s been some confusion about the Wire quiz at POPE. Here’s the deal: It will be SUNDAY. The North Coast kegs will be tapped at 7 p.m., so that’s when they event officially begins. I won’t be hosting quizzo right off the bat though. There’s gonna be some time for people to come in and get settled and grab a beer. We are expecting a huge crowd, and I suspect it will be packed pretty quickly. If you want to play on Sunday, I suggest you get there at 7 p.m. Seriously, this is going to be a sold out gig, so don’t come wandering in at 8 p.m. and think you’re gonna get seated. It could happen, but I’ll be shocked if it does. We will probably start the quiz around 8:30 or so. I know some places say 9, but if we’re packed by 8 there’s not need to wait another hour. My point is simple: be there no later than 7 p.m. Otherwise, you probably won’t get a seat. And then you’ll be like “Sheeeeeeeeeeeit.”
The good news is that the demand for this is so high we’ll probably do another one in the next couple of months.
No, this isn’t spam. Just hooking you up with a Amadeo Modigliano painting. I bet if you had known how hot the ladies were in some of his paintings are you would have known the answer to that question (very few teams got that one right.) Anyways, we kick off French Fry Thursday tonight with a quiz at Ugly American at 8 p.m. Looking to give away a couple of baskets of fries away in French Fry Faceoff, so bring your game faces. On to the Bards at 10:15 p.m., where we’ll have $3 Lagers, French Fries and what the hell, I might give away some CDs and books as well.
Also, be sure to tune in tomorrow afternoon when I will have a very special announcement concerning the Summer Invitational. Stay tuned.
All new quizzo tonight at the Ugly American and Bards. We kick it off at the UA at 8 p.m. If your self esteem could really use the boost that only a quizzo win can give you, then I heartily recommend playing at UA. No dominant team, with a real shot for anybody to win.
On to the Bards at 10:15 p.m. This is where you go if you want to run with the big dogs. Great beer specials at both bars.
And remember, if you’re a Tarantino fan, Koob and Kristy are hosting a Tarantino quiz at Drinker’s Old City at 8 p.m. on Tarantino films. Good night for a quiz. Hope to see ya out!
We kick it off at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. $3 Saranac IPAs and $2 Killian Irish Red pints. Plus the bounty is going back on the Jams. $40 prize bonus to any team that can knock off the Vous’ premiere team and finish first tonight.
On to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Had a big upset last week. Will we see another one this week? Time will tell. Kind of a tough quiz this week, but a fun one. I think it’s gonna keep things close. Hope to see ya tonight!
And quick note for Quentin Tarantino fans: there will be an all-Tarantino quiz tomorrow night at Drinker’s Old City hosted by Koob and Kristy at 8 p.m.
The last question of Thursday’s Ladies quiz was: “What board game, popular in the 80s, featured the categories of career, special moments, children, and marriage?” Thinking the answer was “Life”*, a girl on one of the team’s shouted, “What does that have to do with women?” Without missing a beat, a guy at the table next to her responded, “Because they ruin it.”
WORST TEAM NAME OF THE WEEK: My Mom Has an Amazing Body (Ugly American).
An all new Ladies Week quiz tonight. This time there will be a picture round and quite a few questions on fashion. Action starts at Ugly American at 8 p.m. We move to Bards at 10:15 p.m. And remember, the power rankings are making a return next week, so if you want to make the top 10, you might wanna get your A-team together for tonight. And of course, there will be a french fry face-off. Hope to see you tonight!
BONUS FUN FACT: The song “Lady” by Styx was written by Dennis DeYoung for his wife in 1973. He and his wife are still together.
