French Fry Thursday is tonight, and we’ve got another special guest. My mom is coming up for the day, and I asked her to write a round for tonight’s quiz. She gladly obliged, and I gotta say, the questions are harder than I thought they’d be. They’re good though. She’ll actually be asking her round at Ugly American as a special guest host. That’s our first quiz tonight, at 8 p.m. We then move to the Bards at 10:15 p.m. All new quiz tonight, with all new summer questions. But I promise…no more banana hammocks!
Month: July 2011
Mike Minion Hosting a Baseball Quiz this Sunday Night
Sports fans rejoice. There are going to be two big sports quizzes this month. Mike Minion is hosting a baseball quiz this Sunday at Ugly American. There is also going to be another sports quiz on July 24th at the City Tap House. Details on the City Tap House quiz coming next week. Here’s the deets on Mike’s quiz, from the man himself.
The REAL Mid-Summer Classic will take place this Sunday evening at The Ugly American. Forget the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby, this weekend true baseball fans will be flocking Front and Federal for the Mike Minion Baseball Quiz. There will be questions on all aspects of the game, and a speed round with an anti-Yankee slant. There will be a few baseball related specials at the bar, and the winner gets a $30 gift certificate ($20 for second). In addition, I have a baseball-realted prize for the winners, and some nice consolation prizes the also-rans. Best of all: no controversy over whether you are properly documented, and steroids are encouraged. EVERYONE is welcome! And yes, points will be awarded for the JGTSI.
If you’re a fan of the game, this is one quiz you don’t wanna miss. First question will be thrown out at 8:05 PM.
Kristy and Koob Start New Quizzo in Northern Liberties on Monday
Harry Potter Quiz on Thursday Night
Koob and Kristy will be hosting a Harry Potter quiz on Thursday at Drinker’s Tavern. Here are the details, via Kristy:
Attention Hogwarts students and alumni; In anticipation of the release of the final Harry Potter movie, we will be hosting an all Harry Potter themed Quizzo. All questions will be about the Harry Potter movies; not the books. So bring your sorting hats, and prepare for a seriously magical night at Drinker’s Tavern in Old City, 8-10.
The Most Disturbing Photo Round Ever? Quite Possibly
I started to go one way with the picture round, but then I realized I had already done several picture rounds in a similar vain, and decided that instead I should go the other way with it. The results are alarming. Tonight, we kick it off at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. $2 Buds and $3 Magic Hat Wackos. On to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. After a brief lull following the “Great Air Conditioner Fiasco of 2011”, they’ve gotten the air conditioning fixed and we’ve had a nice turnout. Hope to see you tonight! (Photo courtesy of Awkward Family Photos)
Week 5 Starts Tonight
You celebrated yesterday to honor the brilliant paper written about the inherent rights of man written by a 33-year old Virginia native in 1776. Well today, you can celebrate 40 bitchin’ questions about summertime fun written by a 36-year old Virginia native at O’Neals and at the City Tap House. It’s the same, really. Only different.
We start at O’Neals at 8 p.m. There is simply no way to predict who will emerge victorious, as we’ve had a remarkable 6 different winners in the past 6 weeks. At the City Tap House, things have been a bit quieter during the summer months, but that just means that the insanely generous prizes are that much easier to get your hands on. $100 gift certificate for the winners. The fact that it’s the day after the 4th makes me think tonight might be a little quiet. Could be the perfect opportunity for your team to steal a win and skyrocket up the standings. Hope to see ya tonight!
Question of the Week
Summertime, and the Quizzin’s Easy
Well, we’re in the heart of summertime, and we’re in the heart of the summer invitational. So this week we’re doing a summertime quiz. All questions will be about the summertime: backyard BBQs, baseball, beaches, and babes in bikinis. There will also be questions about the heat, national parks, and the sun. Should be a fun quiz. Hope you had a great holiday, and hope to see ya this week!
Updated JGTSI Scoreboard
Here it is, the scoreboard through 4 weeks. (This does not include the latest “overrated” physical challenges.) We are now halfway through the contest, and things are looking really interesting. A 2 person squad is in 3rd place, Steak Em Up has fallen to 7th, a team that hasn’t played yet is tied with Duane’s World for 4th thanks to physical challenges, and perennial contenders Savage Ear, 1022, and Insert Topical Team Name are nowhere to be found on the Top 20 list.
If you want to get your team in contention, you can almost instantly. Just get a photo of you performing the latest physical challenge on facebook by Wednesday at noon. After that, we’ll be taking the rest of that week off from physical challenges, so don’t wait too late.
And be sure to look over the scoreboard and make sure I have your points right. Some teams switch names each week so I don’t necessarily give them all the points they deserve.
Send Me Your Memories of the 1993 Series
With the Phils poised to take on the Blue Jays this weekend, I thought we’d take a look back on the 1993 World Series between the two teams on Philly Sports History. Please let me know what your memories are of that series by sending me a line on facebook or sending me an email (johnny@johnnygoodtimes.com). Let me know where you watched, what distinctly you remember, and how you felt when Joe Carter hit that long ball.
