The Fall Brawl at the East Falls Marketplace

leavesOk, kids, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. The Fall Brawl is being held at the East Falls Marketplace. Here are the deets.

Tickets: $20, at the door. Includes Sly Fox beer, quizzo, and entertainment. (Bring a couple of ones, to tip your bartender.) There will be food for sale at the Marketplace.

Why the East Falls Marketplace? In addition to just being a really cool space to do an event, it also has a lot of history that apply to us nerds. It was the home of the UNIVAC computer.

What’s the entertainment: In addition to quizzo, Steve-O is going to performing between rounds. That’s right, keyboard versions of all of your favorite Styx songs!

What else is going on at the East Falls Marketplace: Before the quiz, there is a beer tasting starting at around 3 p.m. and a slot car exhibition going on all day.

Where: East Falls Marketplace, 3747 Ridge Avenue. You either have to go to Route 1, turn right and make an immediate right onto Ridge (Marketplace will then be on your left almost immediately) or go through the East Park by the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and come out and make a left onto Ridge.

Prizes: Winner walks with $250 cash. 2nd Place walks with $125.

Rules: Regular quizzo rules apply. Up to 8 people on a team. 4 rounds. Ten Questions. No electronic devices. Hope to see ya Saturday! If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me.

Volunteers Needed!

UYAHey gang, it’s that time of year again. We are beginning our Basketball and Rising Stars program at the Marian Anderson Rec Center, and we need a lot of help. That’s where you come in. We need coaches, tutors, people who can teach chess, and many, many others. Here is a full list of what volunteers we need. If you are interested in volunteering, please shoot me a line. Also, if you are thinking about volunteering, please join our facebook volunteers page, so I can let you know when different things are happening.

As you can see on that list, we have a new website. Please be sure to check it out to see what we’re up to. If you haven’t already, I highly encourage you to check out this video, as some of our kids talk about what they would do if they were Mayor for a Day, what a perfect day in Philly would be like, and who would play them in a movie. If you have any further questions about the program, please feel free to talk to me about it during quizzo.

Quizzo Tonight (And a few notes on Saturday)

We kick it off at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m., then move to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. $2 McSorleys Black Lagers  at the Vous this week. Drank way too many of them Monday night. Possibly the best beer deal in town right now. Good stuff. On to the Black Sheep, where after a few months of wall to wall insanity, there has been more of chance to grab a table lately. Things kick off at 8 p.m.

As for the event, it will begin, once again at the East Falls Marketplace at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be gotten at the door. More details, including ticket prices and entertainment, coming tomorrow. I just have to finalize things with the owner of the Marketplace. See ya tonight!

Lots of Quizzo News

  • jgtlogoFirst of all, remember Fall Brawl is going down this Saturday at the East Falls Marketplace at 5 p.m. Live music, beer, and $250 in prizes. I know that some of our top teams are lined up to play. Should be a fun time.
  • Pics of Thursdays winners forthcoming. I took the photos on my dad’s camera, he went back to VA, and now he can’t figure out how to send them via email. I am currently in talks with my sister, who I am hoping can take over the project and get those pics sent to Philadelphia. I will let you know how things develop in this very delicate process.
  • Quizzo taking foothold in Kansas City.
  • 168 Hour Film and Sketch Spookyfest next Monday at Khyber. If you want to put together a “Haunting” skit  or video for our show, please let me know, and you will receive the email tonight with the prop, One Liner, and rules. You will have a mere 168 hours to complete your project, so use your time wisely.
  • Is Denver’s Evil Empire expanding toward Philadelphia? Geeks Who Drink CEO John Dicker and I have long been friends, and I have marveled at his ability to expand his empire. But now he is hitting close to home. He has started quizzo in Charlottesville, VA, within one days marching distance of Philadelphia. Be forewarned, Dicker, my sentries have scattered to the city walls.  My archers are practicing their aim. My phalanx are…doing whatever it is phalanxes do. You’ve been warned!

Three Bounty Bowls This Week!

BOUNTYHey kids, I am probably gonna end up going broke by the end of the week. But this isn’t about me. It’s about you. You can win BIG MONEY this week at quizzo. First of all, at O’Neals, The Ear has pulled off 5 straight wins, and anyone who knocks them off gets $20 cash in addition to the gift certificate. The same holds true at the Ugly American, as L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics have again established a foothold with 5 straight W’s. $30 off bar tab in addition to $20 cash to anyone who knocks them off this week. Finally, at the Bards it is just getting ridiculous. Steak Em Up won this past week in OT over Duane’s World. The bounty there is up to $35, in addition to the $40 GC, making this Thursdays quiz worth a crazy $75 for the winners! A great week to make it out to the quiz.
