This Classy manager had little patience for pencil necked geeks, and would be turning 91 today if he were still alive.

Pitchers and Catchers 8 Days Away For the World F****** Champions!

Man, I cannot wait. A few notes about the Phils to get you in the mood:
- The Flying Hawaiian on FOX this morning.
- Phils interested in Andruw Jones? The other hot former Dodger rumor? No-mahhhhh.
- Jamie Moyer chatted with folks on ESPN yesterday. Some really interesting stuff. For example, someone asked, “How has baseball changed since you started you’re career?”
The ballparks have gotten smaller. The implementation of QuesTec has changed the strikezone. TV has changed the game greatly. You’re really under a microscope. A lot of fundamentals have been lost in the game. It’s based more on power, home runs, and big innings. Focusing on defense and pitching, to me, is what wins baseball games. As for toughest guys to get out? J.T. Snow. I used to kid him about it. I saw him about two weeks ago and asked if he still claimed me on his taxes. Bernie Williams was a tough out. Believe it or not, Renee Gonzales, I could never get him out.
Steve-O on Comcast Sportsnet
“You’re not going to go to a bar and find someone dressed like Tom Coughlin in New York.”
Quizzo News and Notes
Swung by the Golden Palace today and met with the manager. Very friendly, and hopefully we can do this. I am looking at possibly April 11. On March 7th and 14th Temple and/or Penn is on break, March 21 I’m in Vegas, March 28th is still a possibility, and April 4th is the Final Four. Anyways, he’s gonna get back to me with a rental rate in the next couple of days. The place is plenty big for 300 and we’d do it dim sum style, and either get kegs or do a BYO. Then we gotta find an afterparty. Connie’s Ric Rac looks booked up already. Any other South Philly ideas?
As for tonight, we kick it off at the Good Dog at 8 p.m., and the Bards at 10 p.m. See ya tonight!

Toughest Questions From Last Week
![]()
There were a lot to choose from, as my quiz on Tuesday-Wednesday was my toughest one ever. Here’s a dose of the tough ones from last week:
- This Italian opera composer gave us such classics as Rigoletto, Nabucco, and La traviata.
- Charles XII crushed Peter the Great’s Army in battle in 1700. Nine years later, Peter the Great exacted revenge on Charles’s army. What country was Charles the leader of?
- What word, often heard in Philly, is the term for an eleven in craps?
- This man wrote the music and lyrics for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and the lyrics for West Side Story?
- Who was the last running back to be named Super Bowl MVP?
- Who gave us classic perfumes such as Notes, Belong, Enchanting and Sensational?
- What was the name of the Rebellion which took place near Pittsburgh in 1794?
- In 2001, this became the first nation to grant same sex marriages.
- What team has the record for most points scored in a super bowl, and still lose it?
- What was the name of Nicholas Cages character in Raising Arizona?
Nate Newton Apparently in West Philadelphia

This went down in West Philly today: As the officers spoke with the woman, a male passenger fled from the vehicle on foot. The suspect got away and police said an officer who was chasing him suffered minor injuries in the pursuit…A K-9 unit search of the car following the arrest turned up nearly 60 pounds of marijuana.
(A Michael Phelps reference in my headline instead of Newton would have been gratuitous and simple playcating to the masses.)
