$35 Bounty Bowl Tonight
Things are getting a bit ridiculous down at the Ugly American. With the Sofa Kingdom in disarray, the Hurtin’ Bombs hurtin’, Lambda invisible, the Jams in a mild slump, and having defeated Dwayne’s World several times, L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics have proven themselves to be the best team in JGT quizzo right now with an 8 game win streak. Tonight they go for 9 straight, and if any team can beat them they will get $35 cash in addition to the $30 gift certificate. (That’s $65 total, and if you needed me to tell you that, you won’t win tonight.) Action kicks off at the Ugly American (Front and Federal) at 8 p.m.
Action moves to the Bards, which has been WIDE SLAM OPEN the past few weeks. To be honest, things are pretty interesting at quizzo right now as a power vacuum has enveloped the Bards, with two of its top two teams (The Kingdom and the Bombs) in disarray and the Dysfunktion out of town for the summer. This has been the first time since we started at the Bards in 2004 where things are really truly wide open, and anybody can win the $40 gift certificate on any given night. The power, the glory, and the money are yours for the taking. Just sayin’. Action starts at 10:15 p.m.
Happy Birthday Tom Green
Tom Green, in many ways the precursor to Sacha Baron Cohen, turns 38 today. I wonder if he got a new Slutmobile?
JGT Gets Blasted, High Hopes Petition Almost at 300 Signatures, Phils Acquire Lee
- A couple of days ago, I asked, “Are Eagles Fans Ruining Baseball in this Town?” The comments included one gentleman who wrote, “I really wish you were killed in that bar fight so I wouldn’t have to read this retarded s***.” To see how I responded click above. I also got blasted on the Eagles website message board after posting the same thing there (not surprisingly). “I’d like to kick your f’in teeth in to your windpipe after every Eagles touchdown,” said one commenter (whose avatar is a woman’s primary sexual organ). Well, considering the rate at which teeth grow back, I would suggest that such a stunt would be anatomically impossible.
- The petition to encourage the Phils to play “High Hopes” during the 7th Inning Stretch is at almost 300 signatures. If you haven’t signed it already, what are you waiting for?
- The Phils steal Cliff Lee from the Indians, which leads to the question: who will be the #5 pitcher?
Rock ‘N’ Bowl on August 8th!
Hey gang, as most of you know I am involved in an educational program (through the Urban Youth Association) at the Marian Anderson Center. It is a program where we work on improving that the math and writing skills of teenagers. We have incredible tutors (most of whom I know through quizzo, by the way, in another example of what a cool community we have here) and a terrific program. But like most programs it is not free to run. Therefore we are having a Rock ‘n’ Bowl Fundraiser on Saturday, August 8th at Saint Monica’s Lanes. $20 will get you bowling, beer, and live music. Try to find a better deal than that in the city. Even better, 100% of your $20 is going to a very worthy cause that I believe in whole-heartedly. I have sent out facebook invites to many of you (If you want to be friends on facebook, just hit me up here.) If you are going to be in the city that weekend, please seriously consider coming out. Your support would be greatly appreciated. I will have tickets on sale at quizzo this week and next.
Quizzo Tonight
We kick it off at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. Perhaps the best beer and drink specials in Center City. Then we move on to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Been a solid crowd there the last few weeks, but not too crazy. Get there by 7:30 and you should be able to get a table (but no guarantees!) Hope to see ya tonight!
Be back this afternoon
Hey kids, off to take care of some errands. Be back this afternoon. Have two pizza reviews in the can, just waiting to get interviews with the owners of the places, so I’ll have something up hopefully tomorrow. Talk to ya soon.
Let’s Sing “High Hopes” During Every 7th Inning Stretch!
Hey kids, just started a petition over on isportacus in which we respectfully ask the Phillies to play High Hopes in the 7th Inning instead of Take Me Out to the Ballgame. If you want to know why we feel this way and/or want to sign the petition, click here.
