Sports Quizzo Sunday!

The Eagles season is a train wreck, Bynum is hurt, the Phillies can’t land any free agents, and the Flyers aren’t even playing. But in a desperate effort to raise the spirits of Philly sports fans before the end of the year, Pat Gallen of the excellent blog Phillies Nation and I are hosting an All-Sports quizzo this Sunday. Action will start at the Field House at 6:30 p.m. Gonna have some great beer specials, great trivia questions, and awesome prizes to give away. Here some FAQs below about the event.

Is this Philly sports, or all sports? This will be an All-Sports quiz, though there will be on local sports round. Primarily focused on the Big Three sports (thanks to the strike, we’re no longer including hockey as a major sport). But yes, there will be a few questions on hockey, boxing, tennis, etc., but the quiz will be primarily on baseball, basketball, and football.

What time does it start? Starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Field House (1150 Filbert Street).

Can I still watch the evening NFL games there? Absolutely, we’ll have the upstairs to ourselves and there are plenty of TVs up there.

Isn’t the Field House a place for people whose biggest dream in life is to high-five Paulie Dee? Nope, totally different now. They recently got a great chef and Andy from City Tap in charge of their beer list. 60 great beers on draft.

Will there be food and drink specials? Yes. $5 hummus and $5 bacon fat popcorn. As for drink specials, we’ll have $4 Troegs pints in plenty of different flavors.

What do the winners get? Winners get 4 tickets to a Phillies game next year with limo service to and from the game. We will also have gift cards to give away to both Public House and City Tap House.

How many players to a team? Up to 4 players per team.

Does it cost anything to play? Nope.

Do you like the Michael Young signing? Not really. Not sure the team really needed another over-the-hill infielder.

Quizzo Tonight

We kick it off at the North Star, where I will have free concert tickets, and beers to give away. Also, $3 Kenzingers and half-off mussels and their awesome homemade hummus. Furthermore, things are pretty much wide open. Great spot to get a win.

On to the Sidecar at 9:15. We’ve been rocking there lately. Can you knock off the Sidecardigans? See ya tonight!

Updated JGT Power Rankings

Man, a lot of close calls last week. Should be another wild week this week, and I’m taking your suggestions for wild card rounds over on my facebook page.

1. Steak Em Up (Bards). Won twice by a grand total of 3 points last week, and would have lost at Bards if either 2nd or 3rd had looked up QOTW. The good news is that the two teams that almost beat them are newbies. Hope we’re going to see Bards return to 2008 levels of competitiveness. Last week: #1

2. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). Only powerhouse to not be seriously challenged this week. Cruised to 8 point win over Puppy Puppets. Last week: #2

3. The Jams (Locust Rendezvous). With Barristers and Magnusson retired from active play, the Jams need a new rival. Could Madame Butterface fill the role? They only lost to Jams by one this week. Last week: #4

4. Mysterious Mr. Mapother (O’Neals). After a crushing loss the week before, they regained their foothold at O’Neals, cruising to a 12 point win over Hooter and Chuff and knocking off Tempura House, a team that features Sarah Bart, who finished 2nd in Jeopardy College championship. A big win for the Mapother franchise. Last week: #5

5. Why Can’t Us? (Ugly American) Wanna know how you shoot from not ranked to 5th? Score 116 on a quiz Steak Em Up scored 88 on. Last week: NR

6. Sidecardigans. A 4th place finish drops them 3 spots in the rankings, though they’ve still won 4 of last 5. Last week: #3

7. 407 Primrose Yellow Jackets (Ugly American). Nothing like scoring 2nd highest total of any team all week….and finishing 2nd. Last week: #7

8. Happy B-Day to the Ground (North Star). Been a bit of a power vacuum at the North Star since Popesack disappeared. The Ground seems to be filling the hole. Last week: #9

9. Underground Bard (City Tap House). Heartbreaking, one-point loss to Steak. Will this finally be their week to get over the hump? Last week: #8

10. SnapJack (Sidecar): Who are they? Why are they here? Pull off a dramatic win at Sidecar on Monday night. Will they be back to defend the title or just a flash in the pan? Last week: NR
