Spring Classic to Be Held May 1st at Percy Street BBQ

A venue has been secured for the JGT Spring Invitational. It will be held on May 1st at Percy Street BBQ at 1 p.m. I picked this spot for a couple of reasons. First of all, it can hold a fair amount of people. Secondly, their BBQ is simply off the chain delicious. You guys who make the cut are in for a treat.

Their capacity is limited, however. Which means that we can only take the Top 20 teams. If you are not in the Top 20 right now, however, worry not. There is still enough time to get there. First of all, if precedent holds, a few teams in the Top 20 won’t be able to make that day and a couple more will join forces. Furthermore, and more importantly, you can quickly earn 4 points by Monday by doing a physical challenge (in this case, climbing a tree.) That will quickly put you within shouting distance, even if you haven’t scored a point yet. But if you’re not on the scoreboard by next week, you’re gonna have to go on a hell of a run to make the Top 20. I would highly advise you to get the team in gear ASAP.

Oh My Goodness, All Kinds of Things Going Down in the Next Week

A lot going on right now. In addition to the JGTSpI, there are a bunch of cool events going down in the next week. Here’s the latest:

Sports quizzo tonight at the Ugly American, hosted by Mike Minion. Quiz starts at 8 p.m.

Quizzo Documentary at the Painted Bride on Monday night. 6:30 p.m., with a mini-quiz at the Plough and Stars afterwards. Also, I’ll buy ya a beer if you bring your own (reasonable) trivia question to the Plough that night and can stump the Sofa Kingdom with it.

Not only will I be hosting a mini quiz at the Plough and Stars after the movie on Monday, but I’ll be hosting quizzes at the Kimmel Center next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I will have full details on Monday, but just so you know: each quiz will start at 10 p.m. and there will be a different theme each night. It’s gonna be really cool.

JGTSpI Standings At the Halfway Mark

Here’s our top 10 scores. Teams in yellow are in the Top 10, teams in green would make the cut if the season ended today, teams in purple are on the bubble, and teams in light blue have some work to do. Not a lot of movement in the Top 10. That’s because not enough teams took advantage of the incredibly simple physical challenge last week. I’m surprised that unlike the first two Invitationals, there doesn’t seem to be much interest in the $100 drawing for the top 10 teams, or the $75 bonus prize for the team that earns the most physical challenge points. There seem to be only a couple of teams trying to win $175 in prizes for wearing a hat. It’s kind of mind blowing.

Anyways, there is a new physical challenge up. Not as easy as the last one, but not too hard either. Currently Brown Betty and Libya is Topical  are tied with the lead for physical challenge points with four. You could tie them for the lead in about 15 minutes. I will also be giving away physical challenge points this week at the actual quizzos. It’s time to get your team in gear. We are halfway through, and even if you haven’t scored yet, your team is a 2nd place finish and a couple of physical challenge points away from being right back in the thick of things. But I wouldn’t wait another week. Get your dream team out to play this week. Best shots for a win: well, other than the Khyber on Monday, I would say O’Neals on Tuesday and Ugly American on Thursday would be your best bets. Hope to see ya this week!
