Right Now on Philly Sports History

If you like sports and haven’t checked out our new sports blog yet, please give it a look. It’s getting rave reviews, and evven though I’m biased I think it’s pretty daggone cool. Some very interesting things on the site right now.

  • Raul Ibanez just ended an 0-35 streak, with a double last night preventing him from joining three Phils who held the record for most at bats w/o a hit at 36. Who were they, and which one later managed a team to two World Series wins? Find out here.
  • What former Phillies pitcher pitched two 20-inning games in one year, including all 26 innings of the longest game in MLB history? The answer is here.

Hey folks, Mike Minion is gonna be starting up a string of specialty quizzes this weekend with a Simpson’s quiz. Here’s more info from the man himself:

Mike Minion here. Do you find yourself quoting Homer Simpson just a little too often? Do you ever ask yourself, “What would Kramer do in this situation?” Do your friends look at you funny when you say, “Live long and prosper”?  Well, now there’s a place where you can be among your own kind. Starting this Sunday, The Ugly American will be hosting a series of “Specialty Quiz” evenings.

The quizzes will be on Sunday evenings at 7 PM, every other week.  First up: The Simpsons (Seasons 1-10)!  In   To kick things off on a high note, in addition to the normal prizes ($30 for 1st place, $20 for 2nd), some lucky team will win a GIANT Bart Simpson Pez dispenser.  And I’ll have some other give-aways to boot.

The schedule of topics for the the next few quizzes will be published later this week.   If you have any topic you want to see covered after this initial run, let me know.  Suggestions can be sent to mikeminion@yahoo.com.

The Legendary WID Headlines Chip Chantry One Man Show Tonight!

Those of you who were at the awesome Quizzo Bowl IV remember the performance of the Legendary WID. It was loved by a third of the audience, hated by a third of it, and a third of the people couldn’t hear it. And not only is city council candidate/piano man Steve-O going to be playing piano between rounds, but there’s going to be a raffle to put the 3 time Quizzo Bowl winner on one of our teams. Quizzo Community Raises Over $500 for CHOP

Just got back from Drexel, where I got my head shaved. An incredible amount of support from the quizzo community. Not only was the person who told me about the program a quizzo player, but in a mere four quizzes, on a week that wasn’t even jam packed, we raised over $500 for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Oncology Department. An awesome, awesome display of giving. Thanks to each and every person who donated. We raised $479 at quizzo, plus another $50 online. If you would like to donate, you can still do so. Just click here to make an online donation.

100% of the proceeds go towards enriching the lives of children with cancer. For more information click here. Thanks again!

Steve-O to Perform Between Rounds at JGTSpI

Steve Odabashian will be the between round guest at the JGT Spring Invitational. Now, this is exciting not only because Steve-O is both a great piano player and a highly entertaining guy, but because he’s also one of the best players on the quizzo circuit…and he might end up on your team. Details coming soon. Regardless, be ready to sing along to some Monster Ballads, because it’s gonna be that type of party (and yes, he will be taking requests). Gonna be a lot of fun. Get your team out this week to earn an invite!
