Quizzo News and Notes

  • A lot of cool stuff going on right now to tell you youngsters about. First of all, we’re going to be doing an all-Philly quizzo at an awesome venue in a couple of weeks. We’re headed to the Fleisher Institute (7th and Catherine) on October 25th to have an all-Philly quiz. Such a cool venue, I’m excited to do a gig there. I’ll have more details in the coming days.
  • The picture above was a magazine given to me by quizzo regular Susana this week. How awesome is that thing? Good Time Books were writing the world’s best quizzes back in the 1940s. It’s obvious that the Good Time name is just a great American tradition when it comes to trivia.
  • I am absolutely heartbroken about this…an employee at Public House was murdered last week. His name was Jose Aparicio, and he worked 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, sacrificing his own life so that his children could have a better one. And some piece of human garbage killed him a couple of weeks ago. His family is trying to raise money so that his body can be returned to Mexico for a proper funeral. I think we should all chip in a few dollars next week at quizzo to try to ease a bit of the financial burden as his family deals with this heartbreak. So Quizzo for the Cause is on for next week. What ever you can donate, 100% of donations will go to Aparicio’s family. If you can not make it to quizzo, you can donate by clicking here.
  • Quizzo Bowl venue is ALMOST a done deal. Hoping to release info at the October 25th quizzo. Have a great holiday weekend, everyone, and I’ll see ya next week! (And yes, I will be quizzing on Columbus Day.)

Quizzo, French Fry Faceoff, Name That Tune, and Triple Points Tonight

frenchfries

Let’s not kid ourselves…between Name That Tune, French Fry Faceoff, and quizzo, Thursday is the most action packed night of the week. And that action starts at Industry at 6:30 p.m. Great burgers, and $3 craft beer. A very tough combo to beat.

On to Bards at 9 p.m., where it’s triple points if you can knock off the Jesters of Tortuga (since they won earlier this week, they cannot earn the bonus points.) So you can pretty much guarantee yourself an invite if you can beat the Jesters. See ya tonight!

Quizzo Season Back in Full Swing

The government shutdown is not affecting quizzo! I just want to make sure everyone knows that, since I’m not “technically” a member of Congress, quizzo will go on as planned.

We start tonight at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. $3 Sam Adams and $2 Yuengling Lights. On to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Different specials each week. Hope to see ya tonight!

Big Money Tuesday Tonight!

The JGTAI is back in business tonight. Last week’s quizzo at O’Neals ended up in the Daily News…what surprises will this quiz bring? Action starts at 8 p.m. $3.50 Mexican beers and $5 quesadillas and taco plates. A great deal, and an interesting quiz tonight. On the difficulty scale, the music round is kind of  easy, and the wild card round is kind of tough.

On to City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. Great can specials each week. Hope to see ya tonight!

JGTAI Standings After Two Weeks

photo 2

Here they are, the standings after two weeks have been completed. If the season ended today, teams in the gold and blue would have an automatic invite. Teams in the red would not. I have continued to post questions of the day on facebook, and although I already did one today, I’m gonna do another one later, since I missed yesterday. No more questions on twitter, since Greg was the only person getting them, and I might as well just give Savage Ear two points a day. However, you can still get points by mentioning my quiz on twitter, or by retweeting this story.

As for the couple above, they were San Franciscans in the midst of a cross-country trip and just so happened upon quizzo at the Sidecar on Monday. As you can see from their scoresheet, they didn’t do so hot, but they seemed to have a good time. We also had a team in from Manchester playing at O’Neals on Tuesday. They of course got to witness the week’s highlight. Wild week of quizzo, and next week should be even wilder. See ya then!

I’m Doing a Reading at Jose Pistola’s Tonight

After quizzo tonight, I’m gonna be a doing a short reading at Jose Pistolas (15th and Spruce). It’s a dynamite lineup that includes D-Mac (who wrote this piece last week that went viral and resulted in Bill Simmons writing that he should win the Pulitzer), Mike Tanier, who writes for the Sports on Earth blog, and several performers in this years Fringe Festival. The topic for this one is football. It starts at Jose Pistolas at 10 p.m. and I’ve been told that there will be no football erotica (sorry Beth).

I actually wrote a piece yesterday about my one shining moment of glory on the gridiron, which came my freshman year of high school. Pretty funny piece. Come on by and check it out if you’re free later tonight. Pistolas has the best nachos in the city and plenty of great beers on tap.
