Science and Technology Quiz Tonight

Well, I could care less about science, but you nerds seem to love it…we’ve been packed at the bars all week. Big upset at City Tap last night, as Steak Em Up fell by one point. O’Neals was decided by one as well, with Sharktoberfest taking the title. Seems like science keeps these games close. Action starts tonight at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. We move to Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Hope to see ya tonight, with all new science, technology, and sci-fi questions.

JGT Spring Invite Scores After 5 Weeks

It is going to be a slightly longer spring season. May 6th is the Broad Street Run, which killed our attendance last year, and May 13th is Mother’s Day. So the Spring Invitational will be May 20th. (I’ll have details on a venue and entertainment soon. Working on a couple of things.) The good news is that means that even if you haven’t scored any point yet there is still time because the season is an extra week this year (9 week season, plus a wild card week). Here are the scores after 5 weeks.

Remember, teams who score over 90 get a bonus point and those who score over 100 get two bonus points (assuming you finish top 3.) Teams in yellow are in the Top 10 and eligible for a bonus prize. Teams in yellow or green would earn an invite if the season ended today (I’ve upped it to 18 invites, since we’ve recently added two new bars.) Teams in blue are on the outside looking in, but there is still plenty of time to get back in the hunt. If something seems wrong with your score, it could be because a) I screwed up. Most likely or b) you had two different team names. If you do change team names and are angling for an invite, please write down your old name on your paper. Best place to get a win? Right now, there are no dominant teams on Mondays at either North Star or Sidecar. And if you couldn’t find a table at Sidecar the first few weeks, try again tonight. It’s slowed down a little since the “new car smell” wore off, so there is a much better chance of getting a seat than there was a month ago.

Science and Technology Week at Quizzo

My most dreaded week of the year, but I know you nerds love it, so I’ll do it anyway (The sacrifices). Science and technology week at quizzo. All questions will be more or less based on science, inventors, technology, and yes, some science fiction. We start tonight at North Star at 7 p.m. Half price hummus (which is great, btw) and mussels, $3 Kenzingers. On to the Sidecar at 9:15 p.m. Dollar off all bitter beers. Hope to see ya tonight.

Sports Shorts

Tuesday I did my piece in the Philly Post in which I accuse sports journalists and fans of being completely self-righteous…by being completely self-righteous. Nonetheless, a fairly interesting piece about Ozzie Guillen and Fidel Castro I think you might enjoy.

So every matchup in our Philly’s Most Infuriating Contest is tied or separated by one vote. Please vote and let us break these ties.

Learn about the Phillies very first Opening Day in 1883, the best Philadelphia baseball player you’ve never heard of, and the only person to play for both the Eagles and the Phillies at the site, Philly Sports History.

Quizzo Tonight

The best beer deals in Philly at quizzo tonight. $2 Lagers at both spots. We start at Ugly American at 8 p.m. This is kind of a long quiz (two mystery rounds) so I’m gonna start as close as possible to 8 p.m. tonight. Of course, I’ve said that before. Move to Bards at 10:15 p.m. It’s an intriguing quiz. Two mystery rounds. People seemed to have more trouble with the regular mystery round than the musical mystery round last night. We’ll see how you do tonight.

Julie Edges Nicole by One Point to Win JGT Bracket-tacular.

Congrats Julie! Julie has won a dinner for two to City Tap House. Second Place (Nicole) will win $50 in gift certificates, and 3rd Place (Cuse Nation) won $25. 50th Place ended in a three way tie, which came down to total points. And since it was technically 48th place that was a tie between three teams, we had to go with the team that was the farthest away from the final score. That went to Ryan, who had the final as 83-80. Not even close. His prize for doing such an awful job at guessing the final score? A $25 gift certificate. I have spoken with Julie and will try to contact the rest of you today. If you haven’t from me by tomorrow contact me at johnny@johnnygoodtimes.com and I’ll get you the gift certs. Oh, and if anyone is curious, I finished a strong 68th. Chip Chantry, who was talking mad trash earlier when he was in first place, finished 65th. Wild Guess and Monica’s Winning Bracket tied for last.

Mysteries, Legends, and Myths a Pretty Interesting Quiz

Dropped our first Mysteries, Legends, and Myths quiz last night, and I gotta say it is a fairly tough quiz, but you trivia nerds will love it. No speed rounds or picture rounds, just 40 straight trivia questions about the odd, the unexplained, and popular myths.

We start the action at O’Neals at 8 p.m. $3.50 margaritas. We move to City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. $10 for a pizza and a beer. $100 gift cert for the winner. Hope to see ya tonight.
