Hey folks, just a quick note to let you know that I will be doing a special Gonzo quiz at the POPE (Pub on Passyunk East, 1501 East Passyunk) on Monday night at 9 p.m. to help celebrate Beer Week. The event is being sponsored by Flying Dog Beer, which I am very excited about. Not only is it a great beer, but its artwork is done by Ralph Steadman, the same Ralph Steadman who drew so many iconic “gonzo” images while acting as artist for Hunter S. Thompson’s crazed tales. Thus the inspiration for a “Gonzo Quizzo” night. What does Gonzo quizzo during Beer Week entail? I’d expect a fair helping of questions about Hunter S. Thompson, about beer, about famous Dogs, about Las Vegas, and probably even a question or two about a certain Muppet. Should make for a hell of an entertaining quiz. Hope to see you there.

Flashmob wins Census Quizzo
A packed house at Bridget Foy’s on Saturday night, as Flashmob cruised past a dozen other teams to win the Census Quizzo. The quizzo was an effort by the city to encourage people to fill out their census forms. Inspired, I have finally filled mine out. (Something I failed to do in 2000.) And let’s face it, if a man of leisure can fill out his form, so can you. Here’s some more info on the 2010 census, which you should have received in the mail by now. You have until Thursday to send it in.
Two Special Quizzos This Weekend!
Hey kids, just wanted to let you know that I am doing a couple of fun events this weekend, one in Dirty Jersey and one on South Street. (Two things that are hot on South Street right now: Johnny Goodtimes and flash mobs.)
First of all, on Friday night, I’ll be at Whole Foods in sunny Marlton, New Jersey, doing a fundraiser for their Whole Planet Foundation. All questions will be food and environment related, and all of the money raised goes to a great cause. That will run from 7-9 p.m. on Friday.
Then, on Saturday, I’ll be hosting a census quiz at Bridget Foy’s on South Street. The goal is to encourage people to fill out their census forms. Gonna be a great quiz for you American history junkies, as we’ll be looking at how America changes every ten years. Action starts at 7 p.m. Hope to see you this weekend!
Sofa Kingdom Wins Fall Brawl
A great night at the East Falls Marketplace on Saturday, as the Sofa Kingdom came from behind in the final round to defeat Lambda and the Champs, 110-97-97. Lambda won the tiebreaker. Every bar on the JGT circuit was represented with the exception of O’Neals. The Kingdom, who saw the return of The Swan, found themselves down four going into the final round, but aced the final round to cruise to the win. Lambda finished 2nd after a tiebreaker. In a move that made many recall Deion Sanders playing for the Braves and the Falcons in the same day, Steve-O of Lambda hopped back and forth between the playing field and the keyboard, where he jammed on the keyboard between rounds.
I want to thank the East Falls Marketplace for having us, want to thank all of the teams for making their way out to a new spot, and want to thank Sly Fox for supplying us with their terrific beer.
Final results and pics of all the teams after the jump.
The Fall Brawl at the East Falls Marketplace
Ok, kids, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. The Fall Brawl is being held at the East Falls Marketplace. Here are the deets.
Tickets: $20, at the door. Includes Sly Fox beer, quizzo, and entertainment. (Bring a couple of ones, to tip your bartender.) There will be food for sale at the Marketplace.
Why the East Falls Marketplace? In addition to just being a really cool space to do an event, it also has a lot of history that apply to us nerds. It was the home of the UNIVAC computer.

What else is going on at the East Falls Marketplace: Before the quiz, there is a beer tasting starting at around 3 p.m. and a slot car exhibition going on all day.
Where: East Falls Marketplace, 3747 Ridge Avenue. You either have to go to Route 1, turn right and make an immediate right onto Ridge (Marketplace will then be on your left almost immediately) or go through the East Park by the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and come out and make a left onto Ridge.

Rules: Regular quizzo rules apply. Up to 8 people on a team. 4 rounds. Ten Questions. No electronic devices. Hope to see ya Saturday! If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me.
Rock ‘N’ Bowl on August 8th!
Hey gang, as most of you know I am involved in an educational program (through the Urban Youth Association) at the Marian Anderson Center. It is a program where we work on improving that the math and writing skills of teenagers. We have incredible tutors (most of whom I know through quizzo, by the way, in another example of what a cool community we have here) and a terrific program. But like most programs it is not free to run. Therefore we are having a Rock ‘n’ Bowl Fundraiser on Saturday, August 8th at Saint Monica’s Lanes. $20 will get you bowling, beer, and live music. Try to find a better deal than that in the city. Even better, 100% of your $20 is going to a very worthy cause that I believe in whole-heartedly. I have sent out facebook invites to many of you (If you want to be friends on facebook, just hit me up here.) If you are going to be in the city that weekend, please seriously consider coming out. Your support would be greatly appreciated. I will have tickets on sale at quizzo this week and next.
