Sign Ups for Week of June 8

OK, I think we could all use a deep breath here. The seasons and tournaments and so forth have been a lot of fun but also kind of insane and the last thing any of us needs right now is more insanity. So this week let’s take it easy: one quizmaster, one quiz, one team. Cost is $35, with $5 of each sign up going straight to the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign. To sign up, just put your team name, captain’s name and email into our Google signup sheet.

Sunday Night Quiz

We’re pushing Sunday night’s quiz back a half an hour to 8 pm. I know we have a lot of 7 and 7:30 bedtimes, so hoping to help the parents of youngsters. You can sign up for it here. It is free to play but we do accept tips, and 100% of tips this week will go to the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign. Hope to see you on Sunday night!

Quizzo Update

Hey guys, hope everyone is hanging in there. Wanted to send out a note about upcoming quizzes: we’ll be continuing our tournament for the rest of this week. Anyone who lost last week is welcome to play the regular quiz.

Next week, we’re going back to what we started with: one host, one team, and anyone can play. No tourneys, no season, let’s just get back together and hang out a bit and play some quizzo. For teams that already signed up, we’ll probably still do it in a few weeks, so we’ll hold on to your info for now. (If you paid already, I’ll pay you back.) I’ll have that sign up sheet ready in a few days. Thank you!

Wednesday Night Results, Serie A

We’ve got 11 of our Sweet 16 teams settled, as the Social Distance Warriors held off an upset bid by Pearls of Wisdom, Yacht Rock cracked the Eggheads, the Branch Covidians fought off the Babysitters Fight Club, and the Expired Walmart Meat edged the Missing Wuhan Scientists.

Overtime, Trash Talk, and a Shirtless Team On a Wild Tuesday Night

Things started pretty mellow on Monday, but got wild on Tuesday night. A member of Careless Fister closed out their victory over the Super Spreaders by hollering “Spread em for the Fister!” and a rivalry was born. The Fister will take on the winner of Pop Fit Studio and DelCoOVID 19.

Things got interesting in the Sweet Hats vs Boyz II Menehune matchup, as the Boyz II Menehune returned from their first breakout room imitating the Sweet Hats trademark of wearing sweet hats. The Sweet Hats then returned from the second breakout room wearing no shirts. The psychological chess game was a draw, but the Menehunes won the quiz, 49-45. B2M will face off against the winner of Duane’s World and In the Lead.

In a matchup of the wily veterans of the Missing Heads and millenials of FFSF, the Heads struggled with clock management and fell in OT to the spry young FFSF crew. FFSF will play the winner of Cool Cats & Kittens vs Queso Regionale.

The L Ron Hubbard vs Mad Princes matchup came down to the very last question, as the two teams were tied through 23. But L Ron was able to get all 6 points on the double and squeak out a 44-42 win. They’ll go up against the winner of Lambda and I Shaved My Legs.

There’s No I, who only made the tourney by virtue of a coin toss, came away with a 49-47 win over hard luck El Tigre, who they had also narrowly defeated in group play. They’ll move on to play the winner of Social Distance Warriors vs Pearls of Wisdom.

SERIE A RESULTS

The Zodiac Killer$ defeated Internet Explorer to move on to play the winner of Cracked Eggheads vs Yacht Rock, while the Underground Bard surprised Au Bon Pandemic and could face off with old City Tap House rivals the Sofa Kingdom, if the SK gets past CoVideo Killed the Radio Quiz.

NIT RESULTS

In the NIT, it was the Texas City Players Club knocking off the Divine Order of the Grease Pole, earning themselves a second round matchup with Axis of Evil Knieval. In our other NIT matchup, Below Basic pulled away late to come away with a 42-37 win over the Tuesday Night Quarantine Quizzo Club. They’ll take on the Stately Plump Buck Mulligans in Round Two.

Everything You Need to Know About The World Cup of Quizzo

Carl and I unveiled the brackets last night and discussed our picks in both brackets. We also broke the tie between Queefer Sutherland and There’s No in Quizzo, talked with Boys II Menehune team member Taryn Kutish, and chatted a bit with Chip Chantry.

So here are the all important brackets, both for Serie A and the NIT. Also click the tab at the bottom for the schedule, so you can see what time your team plays. We’ll start sending out invites today. We’re counting on the games lasting slightly longer than a regular season game, so the times might be slightly different than what you’re used to, but within 20 minutes of what .

I’ve made my picks below, going pretty heavy on the chalk.
