Quizzo Bowl X Scores
Congrats to the Sofa Kingdom, who won Quizzo Bowl X on board the Spirit of Philadelphia. To say we all had a blast would be a bit of an understatement. Everything from the food to the weather to the band was incredible. And with so many people getting dressed up, and Lifesaver rounds, and a Kriss Kross/Christopher Cross mashup, and the band playing yacht rock, it was every bit as ridiculous as I hoped it would be.
As far as the quiz itself, I’ll be honest, I got a little unnerved by the Jeopardy team and probably made the quiz a little harder than I should have, especially the music round. If we do it again next year I will definitely make it an easier quiz. But I thought the Mad Lib round and the Lifesaver round were pretty fun wrinkles to the usual questions, and I was happy with the difficulty level of the Impossible Round.
Thanks to each and every person who climbed on board the ship. Oh, and I contacted the ship this morning to ask about the trophy, which I left on board. I’ll let you know when I hear back. D’oh!

Here’s the Gameplan for Today
Anybody who wants to take in the above view today at 4 p.m. while drinking $3 beers and listening to a steel drum band that has not already bought a ticket, meet us down at 401 South Columbus Blvd at 2 p.m. (CASH OR CHECK ONLY!) There are still some tables available!
Next up, download your Uber app. You’re going to want to request a pickup, give yourself a few minutes to get picked up, etc. Give yourself time to get there early! Try to arrive at around 2. Once the boat has left the dock it ain’t coming back, and we gotta give everyone boarding passes, so I want to get everyone there early so we can get em boarded and get this party started as early as possible. If you are driving and not taking a cab, here is a map of where the place is. It’s at 401 South Columbus Boulevard, located right next to the Moshulu.
Once we board the boat, it will be meal time. Find your team a table and dig in at the buffet. If you’ve got a smaller team I’ll do my best to hook you up with a larger one. There will be half a sheet of paper in front of you. Put your team name on that and walk it over to the judges table. We will begin the festivities with a sweet little jam (no rapping of course), and then it’s time to jump right in.
We will do five rounds, ten questions each, with breaks after the second and fourth rounds. We are on an extremely tight time schedule, so there is a pretty good possibility that we will be reading the final results at the afterparty! Just a heads up.
As for the afterparty, it will be at Winterfest, which is a 10-15 minute walk up the waterfront. Gonna be an awesome night for a waterfront stroll. Just head towards Penn’s Landing when you get off the boat and it’s right past that, just beyond the ice skating rink.
That’s where we will reveal our final scores, that’s where TJ Kong moves from leading a yacht rock group to a down and dirty rock and roll band, where if you want to you can hang out by the fire pits, where the WID will perform his insanity, and where we’ll be giving away the over $600 worth of prizes we’ve got to give away. There are also rumors of a roving band of guerilla comedians appearing at the outdoor part of the facility. We’ll see. All in all, it’s gonna be a ton of action, a ton of fun, and I hope to see ya there!

Like I said yesterday in my interview with Philly Mag, I will jump into the Delaware River tomorrow if we sell out Quizzo Bowl. So now, on top of 2 bands, a comedian, a free cab ride, free food, a yacht ride and tons of prizes to give away, you will now have the opportunity to see me possibly die in spectacular fashion. What a bargain!
UPDATE: I have just been informed that jumping into the Delaware is illegal. So you will now have an opportunity to see me get arrested if you come to Quizzo Bowl! I mean, what better deal can I give you people?

The Deets On Taking Your Free Luxury Cab Ride to Your Yacht
So part of the deal for Quizzo Bowl is that you’re gonna get a free ride to the event from Uber (for all people using it the first time, and for up to $20.). Here’s how it works…sign up for their app on your smartphone (or you can use their mobile site m.uber.com) It’s incredibly user friendly.
Fill out your info, and a few minutes before you want to leave on Saturday, when it asks for a promo code, enter QUIZZOBOWL. That’s all caps, one word. They’ll send you a towncar within a few minutes. I used it for the first time a few weeks ago, and quite honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever use a regular cab again. It is first class. The cars are brand new and totally sweet, the drivers are friendly, the whole experience is great. If you haven’t used it before, you’re gonna be blown away.

Everything You Need to Know About Quizzo Bowl X
WHO: You, me, and various other nerds traveling from as far away as Austin and Denver.
WHAT: Quizzo Bowl X, the most prestigious quizzo event in the country.
WHEN: February 22, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. Yep, it’s an afternoon quiz. Be at the boat at 2:30 for boarding…hoping to get the quiz started a little after 3, so we don’t have a lot of time to dilly dally. The quiz will run until 6 p.m., when we will disembark. We will then have an afterparty at Winterfest, a 10-minute walk down the waterfront from the boat.
WHERE: The Spirit of Philadelphia, a luxury liner that will be plying the mighty Delaware River. It boards at 401 South Christopher Columbus Blvd.
WHY: Because we can.
WHY NOT WORLD CAFE LIVE? I love the World Cafe Live. I can’t wait to do it there again. But this being the tenth one, I thought we had to do something a little crazy. This is a little crazy.
PRICE: The price for the Quizzo Bowl this year is $50. The price includes:
- A cab ride to the event courtesy of Uber (up to a $20 ride for first time users. Odds are somebody on your team hasn’t used Uber yet…have them sign up and then you guys can ride free).
- Admission to the afterparty.
- Lunch which will be served on board. There will be drink specials on board.
- An amazing oppotunity to see the Philadelphia skyline from the river. Or, if you get bad seats, Camden. (I’m kidding, the boat will obviously go both ways so you’ll see both sides.)
I know $50 isn’t cheap, so I am packing as much action and fun into those $50 as is humanly possible. Two incredible bands, a few surprise performers at the afterparty, tons of prizes to give away, free food, free cab ride to the event, $3 beers on board the boat, and a ride up and down the Delaware River? $50 is a pretty damn good deal for all of that.

WHAT IS THE MAX TEAM SIZE? MINIMUM TEAM SIZE? The most players you can have on a team is 8. If you have less than 5 players, I will probably try to team you up with some other players. Let me know if it’s only a couple of you, I can do some mix and matching…last year a team that was a mix of three different teams finished 2nd.
ENTERTAINMENT: TJ Kong will be teaming up with a smooth yacht rock-style band to play on the boat. At the afterparty, Kong will be teaming up with his normal backup band, the Atomic Bomb, to rock your freaking faces off. They will be one of the best rock bands you ever see. Seriously, the music is going to absolutely kick ass.
DID YOU SAY AFTERPARTY? Yes, since this is our 10th Quizzo Bowl, it’s gonna be an all day event. After the boat ride, we’re gonna head down the waterfront to the Lodge at Winterfest, where we will be enjoying food and drink specials, live music, trivia face-offs for prizes, and a few surprises as well. Afterparty is included in admission to the event.
