Steak Em Up (Plus Jams) Take Title at City Tap

Steak Em Up, aided by Jam Master Phil, were able to knock off the competition at a packed City Tap House on Sunday night. It had all the elements of a spirited competition, with controversy, great music, and awful rap renditions of some of the greatest songs in music history. At the end of the day, Steak Em Up got the win, though you have to wonder if they could have done it without adding probably the best player on the Invitational’s 2nd winningest team during the JGTAI, the Jams.  Their attempts to create a “Supergroup” (like Asia, above) was met with resistance from the JGT corporate offices, but in the end resistance proved futile (Though Duane’s World gave them quite a run.) My only hope is that by adding JMP (not a regular member of their team) to their invitational team, they did not tarnish their proud legacy. I would just hate that. That would just be awful.

The between round bluegrass band Sour Mash was phenomenal, and I’m fairly certain the music round was the worst best music round in quizzo history. City Tap House regulars Better Than Danny’s Team and Underground Bard made names for themselves last night with impressive third place finish. And finally, we were able to raise $150 for the New Jersey Red Cross and give out over $600 worth of prizes. Here are all of the team scores from last night.

JGTAI FAQ LOL OMG

Ok, peeps, so the big event is tomorrow, and here’s all you need to know.

WHO: Teams who earned an invite, and teams like Look Up Look Down who snuck in by the skin of their teeth on wild card week.

WHAT: The 3rd Annual Autumn Invitational. (I think it’s the third one. I’m too lazy to look it up.)

WHEN: Sunday, November 18th at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: City Tap House, 3925 Walnut Street.

WHY: Why not?

PRIZES: Over $500 worth of cash and prizes to be given away. Yeah buddy.

MUSIC: Music will be provided by Sour Mash, a bitchin’ local bluegrass band.

WHAT ELSE: Nothing else. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a line at johnny@johnnygoodtimes.com.

UPDATE: A few quick notes I forgot to include yesterday. First of all, Denver dropped the ball because they are slackers, so the city vs. city angle is being pushed back to December. We’re gonna do it on December 9th at Trestle Inn. Also, I forgot to remind you that we are going to be raising money for the New Jersey Red Cross with a 50/50 raffle, so bring a few bucks extra for that.

The Battle of Verdun

We had a question about the Battle of Verdun this week. It was inspired when I came across this video on Veteran’s Day. A really fascinating look at the battle, WWI tactics, and life in France at the time. There are 4 parts to the video, so it runs about 35 minutes, but it is extremely compelling. Worth a watch if you’re a history buff. Also, I cannot recommend enough the book All Quiet on the Western Front. Perhaps the best war book I’ve ever read. Just heartbreaking, and really brings to life the horror of WWI. The paperback is 95 cents on Amazon. Get yourself a copy.
