We kick it off at O’Neals tonight at 8 p.m. Double your gift cert if you can top 120. On to City Tap House, and you’re not gonna believe who is waiting tables: Erin from the North Star! After they closed I told her to talk to Andy at CTH. The interview went well, they hired her, and she’s gonna work quizzo nights! Very cool. Action starts at 10:15 (Last week I ran a bit behind so we started late but this week I’ll try to get there on time). Hope to see ya tonight!
JGTAI Scores at the Midway Point
As we head into the 2nd half of the season, things are starting to get interesting. Here are our scores. A few teams went all out on last week’s Facebook challenge and chalked up some serious points. I just posted a new challenge on the page if you’re looking to rack up some points this week.
No quiz tonight due to what’s going on at North Star and the Eagles game. I’m only writing one quiz this week and we’ll operating our normal schedule Tuesday-Thursday. Your best shot to get a win? That’s a tough one. We see the most parity at Industry, though Imaginary Pablo blew it out of the water there this past week. The Tap House is a gamble, as when the Jesters don’t show up, it’s anyone’s ballgame.
So get your a-squad together and get out to quizzo this week, as we head down the home stretch, and only the best teams will earn an invite to the Big Event on November 22nd.

Triple Points in JGTAI Tonight at Industry!
If you’d like to all but wrap up an invite to the JGT Autumn Invitational on November 22nd at the City Tap House, you should definitely play tonight at Industry. We have a tremendous amount of parity, so it’s anybody’s ballgame. Tonight, in addition to our regular $40 and $20 prizes, we’ll offer a $20 bonus to any team that can score 115. As for drink specials, we’ve got $3 Ninkasi Belgian IPAs and Victory Prima Pils. Action starts at 6:30 p.m.
On to Bards at 9:15. Our usual mayhem, $3 lagers, the legendary Michael behind the bar.
Thus far this week, we’ve raised over $500 for PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society). You guys are just incredible. Let’s try to get that number up to $750 by the end of the week. Such a terrific charity, and so psyched to be involved with them. So anyway, tonight’s quizzo is all animal questions. A tough music round that took down some of our best teams last night.
A Note on North Star
Hey guys, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the closing of North Star (understandably). Here is where we stand as of now: they are going to be closing for a couple of weeks for renovations, as well as changing the concept and the name. I have not yet confirmed that I will be returning there when they re-open, but as of now that is the plan.
Regardless, assuming I decide to keep an 8th quiz (will have to talk that one over with the wife), I will be staying in the neighborhood. We’ve got a great crew of regulars and we’re not gonna leave that hood . Once I talk to the new owner, I’ll have a better idea of what the game plan is, but just wanted to make sure that the regulars at North Star knew that if we miss a couple of weeks there, it will only be temporary. I will either be coming back with the new bar or I will find another spot in the same hood (or, on the off chance I do decide to stay home on Mondays, I will have a solid replacement lined up to do my quiz. Franchising!)
Finally, I am going to miss working with the North Star crew. Steven, Erin, and Steph have been a pleasure to work with, and I know everyone liked the entire Monday Night “team”, not just the quiz. Best wishes to all of them moving forward (Steph has actually started to do some artwork for Shibe, so we’ll stay in touch.) Alright, as soon as I have more updates, I will keep you guys informed.
Quizzo Tonight
Action starts at 6:15 at the Locust Rendezvous. On to Founding Fathers at 8:30 p.m. Once again, we are raising money for PAWS. We’ve raised over $300 so far this week and would like to get over $700 by the end of the week. All questions will be animal related. Hope to see you tonight!
No Question of the Week This Week
We’ll have one posted again next week.
Tripleheader Tonight
We start the party off at the Comcast Center at 5:30, with our monthly BYO quiz there, which is always a good time. On to O’Neals at 8 p.m. before wrapping up at City Tap House at 10:15. An all-animals quiz, which made things quite interesting last night.
We’re also raising money for PAWS, and got off to a great start last night. North Star really brought their A-game, donating $137 total, while Sidecar wasn’t bad, chipping in $72. So we’re at $209 after one day. Pretty awesome. A hearty thank you to everyone who contributed. Let’s see if we can beat those numbers tonight!
Quizzo for the Cause: PAWS
Starting on Monday, October 12th and running through Thursday the 15th, I will be collecting money at quizzo for PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. Jon K, a former regular at Industry until his team got all married up and fell apart, is raising money for the upcoming PAWS Mutt Strut, and I thought it would be really cool if we could help him out. I interviewed him a bit about the program that we’ll be raising money for.
JGT: Tell us a bit about the PAWS Mutt Strut.
Jon K: The Mutt Strut is an annual tradition where dogs and the people who love them walk the scenic route in The Navy Yard to raise funds and awareness for PAWS’ efforts to save Philadelphia’s homeless animals. There are dogs available for adoption at the event and they can be “rented” for a donation! Last year, PAWS raised $112,000 and are looking to surpass that this year.
JGT: What first got you involved with the organization?
Jon K.: I first got involved with PAWS about 7 years ago. I had lots of spare time and not a lot of money to spend, so going to hang out with dogs all day on Saturday seemed like a win-win. It turns out that working with animals is pretty rewarding. As I got busier and found myself with less time and more money, I shifted my focus from cleaning cat cages and walking dogs to fundraising for the Mutt Strut and fostering kittens.
JGT Scores After Three Weeks
Ok, things are starting to get interesting after 3 weeks. Some of the usual suspects at the top of the list, but a few newcomers making a name for themselves. If the season ended today, In the Lead, First at 2 Last at 4, The Turds, and even Let Anna Rock You (the Industry staff team) would make the cut. And there is a new photo challenge on facebook that could really move some teams around by next week.
As for the Big Event, it will be held on November 22nd and feature music from the John Train band. Venue to be announced shortly.
Next week is Animals Week. All questions will be about animals, as we raise money for PAWS. More details coming soon. I will be offering triple JGTAI points at Industry next Thursday. Basically, you win there and you earn an invite. Lots of things going down. Hope to see ya next week!
