Tripleheader Tonight

paws

We start the party off at the Comcast Center at 5:30, with our monthly BYO quiz there, which is always a good time. On to O’Neals at 8 p.m. before wrapping up at City Tap House at 10:15. An all-animals quiz, which made things quite interesting last night.

We’re also raising money for PAWS, and got off to a great start last night. North Star really brought their A-game, donating $137 total, while Sidecar wasn’t bad, chipping in $72. So we’re at $209 after one day. Pretty awesome. A hearty thank you to everyone who contributed. Let’s see if we can beat those numbers tonight!

Quizzo for the Cause: PAWS

Starting on Monday, October 12th and running through Thursday the 15th, I will be collecting money at quizzo for PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. Jon K, a former regular at Industry until his team got all married up and fell apart, is raising money for the upcoming PAWS Mutt Strut, and I thought it would be really cool if we could help him out. I interviewed him a bit about the program that we’ll be raising money for.

JGT: Tell us a bit about the PAWS Mutt Strut.

Jon K: The Mutt Strut is an annual tradition where dogs and the people who love them walk the scenic route in The Navy Yard to raise funds and awareness for PAWS’ efforts to save Philadelphia’s homeless animals. There are dogs available for adoption at the event and they can be “rented” for a donation! Last year, PAWS raised $112,000 and are looking to surpass that this year.

JGT: What first got you involved with the organization?

Jon K.: I first got involved with PAWS about 7 years ago. I had lots of spare time and not a lot of money to spend, so going to hang out with dogs all day on Saturday seemed like a win-win. It turns out that working with animals is pretty rewarding. As I got busier and found myself with less time and more money, I shifted my focus from cleaning cat cages and walking dogs to fundraising for the Mutt Strut and fostering kittens.

JGT: What does PAWS do with the money raised?
Jon K.: PAWS is 100% donor funded, so everything they do is dependent on the generosity of supporters. The money raised for the Mutt Strut will help fund lifesaving initiatives like adoption and foster care programs, spay and neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other community-based initiatives, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. 91¢ of every dollar goes directly to lifesaving efforts, and it costs an average of $264 to rescue one animal, so it adds up quick!
JGT: How can other people get involved?

Jon K.: There are tons of ways to get involved. PAWS now has 3 locations: the original adoption center in Old City, a low-cost clinic in Grays Ferry, and a brand new clinic on Grant Avenue in the northeast that is both a clinic and an adoption center. All of them run on volunteers. You can volunteer to clean cages, transport animals, walk dogs, and lots of other things that need to be done. There’s also fostering, which is a HUGE help. You take an animal from the shelter to raise in your home until it is healthy enough or old enough to be adopted. This frees up the space to rescue another animal, so every fostered pet saves 2 lives. And finally, like all non-profits, the biggest help is money.
JGT: When are you guys going to start playing quizzo at the Industry again?

Jon K.: Trust me, I would love to, but everyone we know and played with keeps getting pregnant and moving out of the city. I have not given up hope of making new friends that will actually hang out with me.

JGT Scores After Three Weeks

autumninvite

Ok, things are starting to get interesting after 3 weeks. Some of the usual suspects at the top of the list, but a few newcomers making a name for themselves. If the season ended today, In the Lead, First at 2 Last at 4, The Turds, and even Let Anna Rock You (the Industry staff team) would make the cut. And there is a new photo challenge on facebook that could really move some teams around by next week.

As for the Big Event, it will be held on November 22nd and feature music from the John Train band. Venue to be announced shortly.

Next week is Animals Week. All questions will be about animals, as we raise money for PAWS. More details coming soon. I will be offering triple JGTAI points at Industry next Thursday. Basically, you win there and you earn an invite. Lots of things going down. Hope to see ya next week!

QUizzo Tonight

Alright, we enter the last night of Week 3 of the JGTAI, and your team needs some points. Good news, there’s plenty of them to be had to Industry. WIth Imaginary Pablo making themselves imaginary the past few weeks, there is really, more than at any other quiz, an opportunity for someone to sneak in and start racking up points. If you want to earn your team an invite, you could not do better than playing at Industry tonight at 6:30.

On to Bards at 9:15. You know the deal. Gonna be a rock show. Interesting quiz this week: Duane’s World actually finished 4th last night, which is pretty much unheard of, so you know it’s a quirky quiz. I really like tonight’s music round. Hope to see ya soon!

Big Money Tuesday

bigmoney

Action starts at 8 p.m. at O’Neals, where we’re going to give an extra $50 if anyone can score 120 points. On to City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. The JEsters of Tortuga have been fairly hit or miss lately. If they’re there, you have a chance to pull off the greatest quizzo win of your lifetime (and win a $100 gift cert). If they’re not, then it’s anybody’s ballgame, and your team could definitely win a $100 gift cert. I think they call that a “win-win”.

Quizzo Tonight!

I’ve been missing too many quizzes at the North Star lately, so tonight I’m gonna make it happen. That said, I have a private gig in Center City at 9 p.m., so I gotta start RIGHT at 7 p.m. and be done by 8:40, so be ready to rock n roll as soon as the clock strikes 7.

On to Sidecar at 9:30. The Sandman will be hosting. It’s Week 3 of the JGTAI. I’ll have pics posted tomorrow scores after two weeks as well. Hope to see ya tonight!
