We still need a team name for the Geek Bowl. So far only 13 people have given us suggestions. There’s a couple we like but none we’re totally sold on. Give us more suggestions immediately! Best team name wins a free t-shirt from phillyphaithful.com.
We played together as a team last night at New Deck. We won by one point. Nice to get the win, but we’re gonna need to play better than we did last night to beat 71 other teams at Denver. We will continue to hone our skills.
Yes, folks, rocking all new 90s trivia questions for tonight’s quiz. Also, it is French Fry Thursday, so a team at each venue is walking away with free fries. Hope to see you tonight. Ugly American at 8 p.m. and Bards at 10:15 p.m. I really need a good squad to come in and make short work of the Steak Em Up squad at Bards. So call your nerd friends and get them out to the Bards. As for Ugly American, L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics are the team to beat, but they can be beaten. So if you’re in South Philly, bring it. See ya tonight!
UPDATE! Steak Em Up not expected to play tonight, meaning it’s anybody’s ballgame at Bards tonight. Oh, and I’m smelling another music round coming on.
As we continue on with I Heart the 90s Quiz (which, I must admit, was a little too easy last night), I’m gonna play some of my favorite 90s jams. This one is by one of my favorite groups of all time, Das EFX. While this is not my favorite song of theirs, it is the one most people remember from the 1990s. Das EFX was a duo from Brooklyn whose verbal linguistics were nothing short of brilliant, but unfortunately their style was copped by so many groups after their first album they had to scrap it, and they never found success with subsequent albums. Nonetheless, this one is a gem.
We’re finally back at the Ugly American tonight, and French Fry Thursday is in full effect. All new questions tonight, so if you are really committed to this “More Quizzo” New Year’s Resolution that you made, you can play again this week. French Fry Thursday at both Ugly American (Front and Federal) at 8 p.m. and the Bards (20th and Walnut) at 10:15 p.m. Hope to see ya tonight!
First of all, got last weeks Bowl/Not a Bowl quiz over on isportacus. Secondly, Ivan the Trivial continues to steamroll the opposition at O’Neals, winning their 9th straight over their foes. Bounty is now up to $40 for next week, which quite frankly makes me nervous. I don’t know where I’m going to come up with that kind of cash. Alright, well I’m going to check out the Masonic Temple next to City Hall and see if they have the right kind of space for Quizzo Bowl. I doubt it, but it’s a good excuse to check the place out, which I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I’m also checking into a spot in Fishtown and into the Starlight Ballroom, in case we need to have Quizzo Bowl in the hood. If anybody has any more ideas, give me a holler at johnnygoodtimes@hotmail.com.
Hey kids, I need 80s props for a project I am working on. If anyone has any of the things below, please shoot me a line (johnnygoodtimes@hotmail.com). I’d just need to borrow them for a weekend. Your help would be greatly appreciated. This is a very cool project.
Alright Peeps, vacation is over. I had a good one. Went up to New Hampshire for 5 days, came back, hosted a little quizzo, then headed down to the Eastern Shore of VA to spend New Years there. Lots of relaxing, reading, and playing board games. But now it’s back to the Big City, back to getting my grind on (as we say in quizmaster circles). And in a New Year, lot’s of new projects to get cracking on. First and foremost, Quizzo Bowl VI. Still need to find a spot. Any suggestions would be welcome. Also, want to a) write and produce a play for the Fringe Festival and b) start working on my novel this year. Yeah, I know, I know, I’m not exactly the best at following through on stuff, so we’ll see, but those are my two big goals for 2010. We’ll see. Nonetheless, the quizzo frivolity will go on as scheduled. All 6 quizzes this week for the first time in a while, and the resumption of French Fry Thursdays after a lengthy hiatus. Question of the week coming soon. Good to be back in town. Hope to see you guys this week.
Ok, so I checked yesterday to determine a winner of the Worst Christmas Story idea, and when I checked, we had a tie. So now we are going to have a runoff. Here are the final two contestants. Voting ends at 3 p.m. today.
#3 Dating Survival:The sirens closed in on the St. Nicholas estate. Inside, Santa hadn’t eaten in days. Candycane colored gun in hand, watching tv from his desk with a red velvet bullet proof vest on, he watched as five children’s hospitals burned to the ground in some kind of a coincidental terrorist act. The recession had really hit home this year, and Santa had to make his cuts too.
#6 AW Santa glanced from the List as Mrs. Claus entered, ensconced in an aura of steaming cinnamon-sugar cookies. Their eyes locked. After so many millenia, the ache still crept up his core whenever he spied her dowdy silver ‘do, her horn-rimmed bifocals, and the plump, fleshy rolls bursting from her frumpy gingham jumper. He stood and slid his fuzzy gloves seductively along her ample midriff …
Ivan the Trivial has won 7 straight, meaning that the Bounty at O’Neals (8 p.m.) is now up to $30. And tonight could be the perfect night to win it, as I think only a couple of their players can make it. Assuming any of their players show up, tonight at O’Neals could be a great shot for your team to win big bucks. Just sayin’.
We then move to the Bards at 10:15. There will be a fair amount of Year in Review questions tonight, and the return of an old favorite for the 50-50 round. Hope to see ya tonight!
