Be sure to check the scores…some teams changed team names and there is a chance I missed a team somewhere, so want to make sure we get these right. I know I forgot to include Alla Spina a couple of times in scores but I did get those wins in the standings.

There is a new facebook challenge up…post a pic of yourself as a teenager and you earn your team a point. (These should be quite amusing).

As for the event itself, as stated earlier, it will be held outdoors at Lo Spiedo, which is at the Navy Yard. Very cool space. I’ll send out invites this weekend.

We just released a new podcast yesterday, and it’s quite amusing, if I say so myself. Would you fight a dragon in exchange for eternal fame? What kind of gift would you get for Hitler’s 50th birthday party? And would you let Suge Knight babysit your kid?

We’ve had a few really good ones lately. We also had a pretty great discussion last week of how our wives would have reacted if we had demanded a Satanic wedding. And two weeks ago we talked about a urologist who gave a very unusual demonstration at a urology convention that’s pretty remarkable.

Yep, you heard me correctly. Really excited about this one. Gonna be hosting a 1960s quiz at the Art Museum next Wednesday, the 24th. It’s one of their “Art After 5” events, and I’d love to get a good crowd, since this should be a pretty incredible event. Event starts at 5, there’s a 1960s short film at 6, and the quizzo will start at 6:30 p.m. You can get more info here.

Pretty amazing edition of the This Week in Worthless Knowledge podcast this week. We discuss the Tonya and Nancy drama that occurred 21 years ago this week, what kind of sicko would videotape an elephant getting electrocuted (ahem, Thomas Edison), and how adopting a feral child would affect our respective marriages.

Also, if you’re as big of an It’s a Wonderful Life fanatic as we are, you should probably listen to us talk about the greatest film of all time in this episode.

Every year at this time, we raise money for a worthy charity, and we’ve got a great one this year. The Poor People’s Economic Human Right’s Campaign does a remarkable job of not only campaigning for the rights of the poor, but of helping them in extremely meaningful ways. They house victims of domestic violence. They house every homeless person that comes their way. They help families in trouble keep their homes by helping with bills and utilities. The organization was founded by Cheri Honkala, who was once a homeless mother herself (and who I interviewed a few years ago for Philly Mag when she was the VP candidate for the Green Party in the 2012 election). In talking with her earlier today, she told me that a lot of people stepped forward when she was in a really tough situation, and she wanted to do that for others. She also told me that what was unique about her organization was that the people that PPEHRC helps are expected to pay it forward when they get back on their feet, and to also take leadership in their communities and to fight for the poor.

Cheri told me of several things that our fundraising could help with, including  a victim of domestic violence from Texas who they were trying to find an apartment for and a disabled woman who was recently foreclosed on in Mt. Airy, and who would be back on the streets if she doesn’t find an apartment soon. I can hardly think of a better organization to raise money for in the spirit of the season. Every dollar helps, and 100% of all donations will be given to the PPEHRC. She has also given me a list of toys for 23 children who are looking for gifts this Christmas. Two years ago, three Philadelphia natives and I bought a sports clothing store on 13th and Walnut called Pro League Authentics. We had no clue what we were doing, but we had a lot of fun doing it. Now, two years later, we’re getting a lot better at it (while still having fun). While a lot of articles lately have talked about local sports stores getting crushed by the wretchedness of the local teams, we’ve managed to largely avoid that by getting ahead of the curve and doing a lot of unique, one of a kind pieces, and we have in fact expanded in some ways outside of sports (for example, the Divine Lorraine shirt above.) Necessity is the mother of invention. The awfulness of the local teams has forced us to get creative, and the results have been tremendous, thanks in large part to the incredible local artists we have working for us.

Also cool is that the quizzo world has had a lot to do with our success. Our primary screenprinter is Alex Ciambriello, who used to be a member of the storied Sidecardigan crew. He mentioned to me soon after we opened that after working in printing for years, and he was starting his own business. We started throwing some shirts his way. The result has been awesome for both of us, as we each helped the other get their business off the ground. His work is terrific, and we’re proud to carry so many Philly-made shirts in the store.

Quizzo expats from the North Star of course remember the bartender Steph. Well, a few weeks before they closed, I discovered that she did a lot of artwork with soaps. We thought it might be fun to expand our offerings at the store, and just this past week we brought in some brand new soaps that you have to see to believe. My personal favorite is the “Dallas Sucks” Fight Club soap.

The list of local artists doesn’t stop there. Jon Billet did a poster for quizzo at the Sidecar a few years ago. I liked it so much that I hunted him down and encouraged to do some artwork for us. The results have been excellent. Our best selling shirts at the store are his stadium series shirts. He also did the Divine Lorraine shirt you see above. Jon subsequently recommended another Philly artist, Keni Thomas. Keni has done incredible work for us, including the Sir Charles, Rocky vs Apollo, and McGillin’s shirts.

Not all of our artwork is on shirts, however. We also carry prints by Philly word artist Dan Duffy. On the walls hang unique collages from a guy named Jason Whitcraft. We met Jason at a local craft fair and loved his one-of-a-kind stuff, so we asked if we could put it on the walls.
