It’s the end of an era at the Black Sheep, as the quizzo there this Wednesday (March 4th) will be my last one there. We’ll be moving South, to Founding Fathers (1612 South Street), where quizzo will take place at 8:30 on Wednesdays, starting on March 11th. Sad to say goodbye to our friends at the Black Sheep, but excited to start at a new venue. I think we’re gonna have a lot of fun at Founding Fathers, which is a large room and will give us some room to grow. We’ll have some beer and food specials for quizzo night, which I’ll let you know about over the next week. And yes, tomorrow night at Black Sheep, I’ll probably have a drink or two to celebrate the last quiz and say goodbye to some old friends. Hope to see ya there. If so, get there early. As usual over the past ten years, I expect it to be packed.

Hey gang, we’re about halfway to a sellout, and I know a lot of teams haven’t bought their tickets yet. So, if you’re planning on going, get your tix ASAP! It looks like it will be sold out in a few days. I will have tickets on me tonight at quizzo, so you’ll have a chance to get some then. Otherwise, you can purchase them here online (there is a $5 service fee online). After that, it’s every man for himself. No guarantees I’ll have any left by next week. Just want to be sure you guys know to get them now, before it’s too late.

And if you have a team of 5 or less, please let me know, because we are gonna consolidate smaller teams to make room for as many folks as possible. I’ve also created a post on the Quizzo Bowl facebook page so that smaller teams can try to team up beforehand.

Think there’s no football this Sunday besides the lame Pro Bowl? Think again! There’s gonna be an All-Pro football quizzo at Founding Fathers Sports Bar & Grill at 5:30 on Sunday, hosted by Shibe co-owner Johnny Goodtimes. In addition to testing your pigskin knowledge, there will also be various $4.50 craft beers and $5 Nachos and Quesadillas. Most questions will be from the Super Bowl era. Gonna be a lot of fun, and you might learn a thing or two. (As far as questions asked: almost all NFL, lots of Super Bowl questions, with perhaps a few USFL and “Where did so and so play in college?” type questions. But far and away mostly NFL). WHAT KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT WILL THERE BE BETWEEN ROUNDS? An incredible Motown group, the York Street Hustle (above) will play between rounds. I’m also going to be assisted by one of Philly most beloved comedians, Chip Chantry, and of course my lovely assistant, Fastball Pitcher Bob Gutierrez.

HOW MUCH IS IT? $25 per player.

FASTBALL BOB IS WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION BY HIMSELF. I am aware of that.

WHAT IF WE HAVE A TEAM OF 4 OR LESS? Let me know…I’ll team you up with another small team.

ARE THE QUESTIONS ALL ABOUT MOTOWN? No, the theme is just Motown because the band is a Motown band. I’d expect a few questions about Detroit, but the quiz itself is all general knowledge, like a regular quiz, except with a few twists.

It isn’t often that you get to hang out with a Hall of Fame football journalist the week before the Super bowl. This is one of those times. Ray Didinger will be answering your questions and signing copies of his new book, the New Eagles Encyclopedia at Shibe Sports on Saturday the 24th at 5 p.m. The event is free, and snacks and liquid refreshment will be provided.  Hope to see you there!

Hey guys, have a great charity for us to raise money for for the next two days at quizzo…the Child Guidance Resource Center has a program in which it buys toys for children who otherwise might not receive any for Christmas. A friend of mine who works with local charities says that they do an awesome job.
