In case you missed it over on isportacus, here’s the poem I wrote after Saturday’s devastating loss, based on Casey at the Bat. I think it’s pretty good.

The 8th Annual JGT Halloween Spooktacular!

There is little consolation to take from the Phillies loss. But if there is one, it is this: for the first time in 3 years, we will have an uninterrupted Halloween Spooktacular. And to celebrate, for the first time ever I am going to write two different Halloween quizzes. Scary songs, mass murder, and horror films will dominate the questions. This will not be a quiz for the weak of heart. We start tonight, on Big Money Tuesday. Winning team at O’Neals gets a $50 gift certificate. And considering that there have been 6 different winners in the past 7 weeks, anybody could take this thing. And $50 can buy you a lot of $3.50 margaritas.

On to the City Tap House. Our first quiz last week was a huge success. Great turnout, great venue, and great prizes make this an awesome quiz. Winning team gets a free two hour Happy Hour for 10 friends. Specials include the $10 personal pizza and a beer. That’s hard to beat. You better be there tonight…or else!

JGTAI Scores Thru 5 Weeks

Here ya have it, the scores through week 5. The teams in blue are teams that are in the top 10, and thus eligible for the $100 bonus drawing. Teams in yellow would be guaranteed a spot in the invitational if the invites were sent out today. Teams in the Green are “Bubble Teams”. They would have to wait to see exactly how much space we have available and if any teams in the Top 20 can’t make it. Teams in orange have some serious work to do over the next three weeks. But do not give up. Look at the Tubular Two. At the time of last week’s rankings, they were buried near the bottom of the list. But this week they finished 2nd twice, submitted an avatar, and scored a few physical challenge points. Now they are in the running for the Bonus Bucks, tied for 10th. One good week can get your team in the mix! Is this the week? You get your first chance tonight at the Westbury with Mike Minion. This week’s wild card round is “Disney films”. Action starts at 10:30 p.m. Meanwhile, I kick off the Spooktacular tommorrow night. Details to follow. Three weeks to go! Time to make your move! Friday Night Quiz!

A very rare treat tonight, as I’ll be hosting a Friday night quiz at the Ugly American! We kick off at 7:30 p.m. and I’ve got a couple of rounds that aren’t baseball related, but will get you fired up for Games 6 and 7. And of course the Rangers-Yankees game will be on. Dollar off all drafts during quizzo. And hey, it’s our first ever French Fry-day!

Pre-Game Quizzo Tonight at Bards!

The Phils rally starts tonight, and we’re doing a pre-game quiz at the Bards at 6 p.m. Happy Hour specials followed by game specials. Come for the quizzo, stay for the first game of the Great Comeback of 2010. Gonna be a good night. And a very appropriate wild card round. No Quizzo tonight due to the Phillies, folks (To read why the Phillies are likely to score a lot of runs tonight, click here). But keep in mind, you can still score points for the JGTAI by getting your physical challenge done today. And I need a few regulars to make me avatars (Barristers, Savage Ear, and Magnus, I’m looking at you.)

As for last night’s inaugural quiz at the City Tap House, it was a huge success. Over 40 people played, which is terrific for a first night, and lots of big teams, which is always fun. And the first team ever caught cheating at CTH? A team comprised entirely of Yankee fans. No kidding.

Things had been kinda off and on at O’Neals the past few weeks, but last night was packed. That was great to see. Hope we can keep it up.

Keep in mind, we have very special quiz times planned for the rest of the week. Thursday night, a pregame quiz at the Bards. We kick off at 6 p.m., then hang out after to watch the Phils take on the Giants. $3 Yards, $3 UFOs and 50 Cent Wings. Wanksta Wings I call ’em. Get it? Because 50 Cent is also…oh, never mind. Then a very special Friday night quiz at the Ugly American. 7:30 p.m. I think this one is gonna be a lot of fun.
