Quizzo Tonight at Westbury

Mike Minion returns to action tonight at the Westbury. Here’s his blurb on last week’s match. I think I might try to make it tonight if anybody wants to play.

Last week we had a very tight race at the Westbury. The top three teams were separated by less than one question. When the dust settled, a new team came our on top. First-time winners The 4 C’s defeated Group W by one measly point. During the quiz, I asked a one-point bonus question: What song, written by Jim Steinman, kept Making Love Out of Nothing at All (also written by Jim Steinman) from reaching number one on the Billboard chart? (it was an 80’s music round, after all; you can find the answer at the end) The 4 C’s came up with the answer, got the bonus point and edged out Group W for the win.

Tonight festivities kick off at 10:30 at the The Westbury. Last week’s low scorers chose “Cars” for this week’s theme round, so I expect to see all you gear heads, NASCAR fans, and Ric Ocasik at the Westbury tonight. This is a good chance for a new team to come in and knock off one of the regulars. Monday’s keg special will be Dock Street Bubbly Wit for $2.50. The featured brewery is Fuller’s of London and bottles of all Fuller beers are specially priced.

My sister had a healthy baby girl yesterday morning, and the baby and both parents are doing great. To celebrate, Colby and I are headed to the beach with a cooler full of cold ones. Hope you’re all having fun at the office today, suckers!

Pics and scores should be going up tomorrow (when it’s supposed to rain.)

Quizzo Tonight

My sister just had a healthy baby girl this morning, so I am heading home to be with the family this weekend. Therefore, the Sandman is going to host for me tonight. First at the Ugly American, there is a Bounty Bowl. Anyone who finishes first and defeats L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics gets an extra $25 in addition to their $30. Then, on to the Bards. $2.50 Lagers and Miller Lites during the Bards quiz. Hope you can make it out tonight!

What’s Up at the Bards?

bardsThe Bards used to be the busiest spot on the JGT quizzo circuit, and tables there were hard to come by. These days, it is still a decent crowd of 30 or so, but I kind of miss the days of 50-60 people. Not sure what happened that caused it to quiet down. It’s still a great staff, the beer specials are awesome, the prizes are great, and it’s a damn good bar.  I mean, every bar on the quizzo circuit has its ups and downs (The ‘Vous was dead for a while and now it’s packed every week), but I’m kind of missing the way the Bards used to rock. Any theories as to why it’s been a little quieter the past few months or what we can do to get it rollin’ again? I am all ears, as I really want to get it cranking again.

Quizzo Tonight!

IMG_1733Cinco de Mayo action kicks off at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. $3 Dos Equis and $2 Lagers. Should be a good time. On to the Black Sheep, which has been bumping lately. Action starts at 8 p.m. there. And yes, the last place prizes continue to rule.

Oh, and just a little heads up. I will be out of town tomorrow night (my sister is having her 2nd baby), but the Sandman will be filling in. Keep in mind that there is a $25 bounty at the Ugly American.

Taser haikus!

A hearty debate in the iSportacus comment section over whether or not the taser should have been used on that kid Monday night. I say yes, Palestra Jon, BMT, Parsnip, et al. disagree. We’re still not sure exactly where Bob T. stands. He sort of plays the fence on this one.

I’ve started doing some writing for Comcast. Here’s my column for today: Best 5 Mexican American athletes of all time. I also heartily recommend the NFL Draft All-Name team, featuring Selvish Capers and Roddrick Muckelroy.

I’ve also begun doing quizzes for them. Here’s one: NFL First Rounder or Not Drafted at all.

$135 on the Line at Quizzo Tonight

It’s Big Money Tuesday, the richest night of the week in quizzo circles. At O’Neals, the prize package is up to $50 and $25, and at Bards it is still a hefty $40 and $20. Got what it takes to take down the top teams at either bar (Savage Ear at O’Neals and Steak Em Up at Bards)? Test your mettle tonight. O’Neals starts at 8 p.m., and Bards at 10:15 p.m. Cheap margaritas at O’Neals and $2.50 Miller Lites and Lagers at Bards. Hope to see you tonight!
