This is great. Glenn Beck is a clown who realized that more people listen when you act like a jackass than when you act as a voice of reason, so he has gone further and further off the deep end over the years, until he finally reached a point when he said that Obama “hates white people and white culture.” Of course, Kanye West said similar things about George Bush (though Bush doesn’t hate black people. He hates poor people.) and was pretty much blasted by all circles. I hope that even Bob T. can agree on this one: Glenn Beck isn’t a conservative. He’s just a moron.

“Vick-timized” by Willie Gee

Michael-Vick-R.article.jpg

This is a repeat of an excellent article Willie Gee wrote two years ago when Vick was arrested. I think it is well worth a re-read now that Vick has signed with the Eagles.

The latest developments in the Michael Vick dog fighting case seem to confirm what I have believed all along, which is that many people in powerful positions are trying to bring the man down. Although Vick is arguably one of the NFL’s greatest players and definitely the league’s most electrifying, his unconventional style of play along with his ability to “keep it real” seem to bother many members of the dominant culture. To put it bluntly, many people do not like him because he does not act white and corporate, and does not play the game like every other quarterback. I have further believed that “those people” have been out to get him for quite some time. Unfortunately, “those people” make up a disproportionately large part of the means that control society, such as the media. ESPN, in particular, has had a vendetta against this guy for at least the past year. From the middle finger incident, to the water bottle incident, and now this, Vick has taken more than his share of criticism. I mean, Kobe Bryant never took this much heat for buying his way out of a rape case. Moreover, the Feds never got involved in that one. They allowed the authorities in Eagle, Colorado to do their job, and there was no independent investigation conducted by the NBA either.

Quizzo Tonight

We kick it off at the Ugly American at 8 p.m., where Duane’s World has won two straight weeks following an 8 week domination by L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. Rumor has it that the Diabetics will be a little short handed this week, so there may be a chance for a new team to slip into the mix. On to the Bards, where the crowds have started to pick back up a bit, but we’re still not at fall levels, so there are tables to be had. Action starts at 10:15 p.m. And if you have any great round ideas, hit me up on facebook. Hope to see ya tonight.

CONTROVERSY! MURDER! MAYHEM! AT QUIZZO

casey_jones9aOk, so no murder, and not really that much mayhem, but there was controversy at the Rendezvous last night. The Jams had a perfect score when, in round three, I asked the question, “What train was Casey Jones the engineer of, a train whose name sounds similar to a Burt Reynolds movie?” The correct answer was Cannonball Express. They answered, simply, “Cannonball”. I had taken off a point the night before for teams that had simply written Cannonball, and did so again. They then ran the tables in Round Four and finished one point away from a perfect score, with a 118. So the question I pose to you is, “Was I grading too harshly? Should I have given them full credit for cannonball?” Let me know in the poll below.

Teens Pick Favorite Character from the Wire

the-wire-season-4As you know, several friends from the quizzo community and I have been working in a summer program at the Marian Anderson Rec Center, concentrating heavily on Math and Writing. Just wanted to point you in the direction of the latest, as the guys picked their favorite characters on The Wire. (Most of them had already seen it, and we watched several episodes from Season 4). I know that several of you are Wire fans (since it is the greatest show in the history of television), so I thought you might dig it. Feel free to add who your favorite character is and why in their comments section. The guys really get fired up when they see that they get comments. Personally, my favorite character is Omar. I think he is one of the most original characters in the history of TV, and his adherence to a strict moral code while living as a stick-up man constantly challenged my own sense of morals.
