Steak Em Up Wins JGTSpI

Steak Em Up trailed heading into the final round of the JGTSpI on Sunday, but turned it on in the final round, and knocked off Autumn Invitational champions the Exhausted Nihilists 123-109. The match was complete with a flower round and a live music round, as Steve-O not only played between rounds but did an 11 song round about the sun (Seasons in the Sun, Cheap Sunglasses, etc.). Percy Street BBQ was a great venue and the food was spectacular as always. Special thanks to each and everyone came out. We’ll kick off the Summer Invitational after Memorial Day.

Hey folks, Mike Minion is gonna be starting up a string of specialty quizzes this weekend with a Simpson’s quiz. Here’s more info from the man himself:

Mike Minion here. Do you find yourself quoting Homer Simpson just a little too often? Do you ever ask yourself, “What would Kramer do in this situation?” Do your friends look at you funny when you say, “Live long and prosper”?  Well, now there’s a place where you can be among your own kind. The quizzes will be on Sunday evenings at 7 PM, every other week.  First up: The Simpsons (Seasons 1-10)!  In   To kick things off on a high note, in addition to the normal prizes ($30 for 1st place, $20 for 2nd), some lucky team will win a GIANT Bart Simpson Pez dispenser.  And I’ll have some other give-aways to boot.

The schedule of topics for the the next few quizzes will be published later this week.   If you have any topic you want to see covered after this initial run, let me know.  Suggestions can be sent to mikeminion@yahoo.com.

The Legendary WID Headlines Chip Chantry One Man Show Tonight!

Those of you who were at the awesome Quizzo Bowl IV remember the performance of the Legendary WID. It was loved by a third of the audience, hated by a third of it, and a third of the people couldn’t hear it. Well tonight is your chance to see what the greatest prop comic ever can do in an intimate setting. I’ve got to be honest, this is as excited as I’ve ever been for one of our shows. If you love prop comedy, or hate it, you’re gonna have fun if you can make it tonight. Action starts at 8 p.m. at the Shubin (4th and Bainbridge). Chip’s show is establishing itself as one of the best in the city. If you’re free tonight, please come by and check it out. Tix are a mere $5.

Spring Invitational Sunday at 1 p.m.

We’re gonna be kicking off at Percy St. BBQ on Sunday at 1 p.m. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. Steve-O will be playing between rounds, as well as helping one lucky team try to become the 3rd team ever to win an INvitational. Sofa Kingdom won the 2010 Summer Invitational, with the Exhausted Nihilists pulling off an upset at the Fall Invitational. Who will be our 3rd winner? We’ll find out tomorrow. In addition to some fun questions and great live entertainment, there will be $3 Sly Fox beers and $3 Hillbilly Gatorade. We’ve had a couple of Top 10 teams pull out, so any teams with 10 or more points in the JGTSpI are eligible for the $100 bonus prize. If you have a couple of players and want to play tomorrow, just let me know and I can put you on a team with less than 8 players (which is team max.) Entry fee is $10. Hope to see ya tomorrow! Gonna be a great day for a BBQ.

P.S. I do have a couple of openings for Sunday. If you have a single 1st place finish over the past 8 weeks, let me know if you want to play.

Final Scores are Up for JGTSpI

Here they are, the final scores for the JGTSpI. If your team is in yellow, then you are in the running for the bonus prize. If you are in yellow or green, then you made the cut, and can your shot at the hundreds of dollars worth of prizes. If you haven’t already, please contact me and let me know if you are playing (johnny@johnnygoodtimes.com). I need to put the numbers together for Percy Street.

We’re gonna have a lot of fun on Sunday. $3 Sly Fox and $3 Hillbilly Gatorade, and their BBQ is absolutely incredible. And not only is city council candidate/piano man Steve-O going to be playing piano between rounds, but there’s going to be a raffle to put the 3 time Quizzo Bowl winner on one of our teams. Congrats to the teams who made the cut, and look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

UPDATED: I forgot to mention that if small teams (1-3 people) who played over the past 8 weeks want to play, I can probably put you on a team. Just let me know.

Quizzo Community Raises Over $500 for CHOP

Just got back from Drexel, where I got my head shaved. An incredible amount of support from the quizzo community. Not only was the person who told me about the program a quizzo player, but in a mere four quizzes, on a week that wasn’t even jam packed, we raised over $500 for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Oncology Department. An awesome, awesome display of giving. Thanks to each and every person who donated. We raised $479 at quizzo, plus another $50 online. If you would like to donate, you can still do so. Just click here to make an online donation.

100% of the proceeds go towards enriching the lives of children with cancer. For more information click here. Thanks again!
