Quizzo Tonight

We start at O’Neals at 8 p.m. Yeah, I know it’s Mardi Gras but we’ve done it the past years and it’s not been a big deal. Might be a few tools who wander in but it’s usually fairly mellow. Parking may be a hassle, and there might be a few tools out on South Street, but otherwise it should be fine.

On to the City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. Big time prizes, and their famous $10 for a pizza and a Sly Fox special. Expect a few theatre questions tonight. See ya there!

A few FAQs about tonight’s event that you should know going in.

Can I still buy tickets?

No, tickets are sold out. However, if you already have a team of 5 or 6 that have paid and want to add 1 or 2 teammates, we might be able to squeeze them in. But there is no room for any more teams.

What time should I get there?

Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:30. It’s first come first serve on seats, and some have restricted view, so I would get there early.

Are there any giveaways?

Yes, I have several gift certificates to give away, including ones from Fergie’s, Farmer’s Cabinet, the POPE, City Tap House, the Rendezvous, Sidecar, and the Bards. Raffle tickets are a buck a pop (all proceeds will go towards my Bloody Mary consumption on Sunday). We’ll also be playing a game called “The $25 Beer-a-mid”. That is free to enter. Just put your name in the bucket.

How long will the event last?

Keep in mind, grading 40+ teams papers, double checking them all, and entering scores in the computer takes time. So don’t expect this to be like a normal, 2 hour quiz. Of course, with the Cavatina Calypso band playing, I don’t think you’ll mind. Barring any technical difficulties, I expect it to take about 3-3 1/2 hours to complete. So kick back, relax, and enjoy. It’s Saturday night, and you weren’t able find anything better to do than hang out with a bunch of nerds. You might as well enjoy it.

Is there a dress code?

I am encouraging everyone to wear tropical shirts. I’d wear a jacket too if I were you.

Is there an afterparty?

Damn right. We’re going to celebrate at JG Domestic, just a 10 minute walk (or 2 minute cab ride) from the venue.

What’s the food and drink situation?

You can order dinner at the World Cafe Live. There will be a few light snacks at JG Domestic (read: soft pretzels), but the kitchen will be closed, so don’t plan on eating dinner there. As for drinks, the World Cafe will be running a drink special on Caribbean drinks, and JG Domestic will be giving us happy hour prices at the afterparty (including $3 Abita’s).

Is Johnny Greattimes going to be there?

No I have spoken with security and they are dedicated to keeping Johnny Greattimes out of the building. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about him making a mess of things tonight.
