$300 Worth of Prizes Up for Grabs in the JGT Bracket-tacular, Brought to You by Shibe Sports

Double Dribble 2

One of my favorite traditions on the JGT calendar, it’s time to kick off the JGT Bracket-tacular Brought to You By Shibe Sports. (To help make it go viral, please use the hashtag #12thannualJGTbrackettacularbroughtotyoubyShibeSports).

You can fill out your brackets here. We’ve got some great prizes to give away this year, including:

1st Place: $100 gift certificate to Shibe Sports and a $50 gift cert to Milkboy. At Shibe, we will be having a “Shoot for Savings Sale”, where if you hit a 3-pointer, you get 30% off your purchase! You can also get our great Palestra shirt with free shipping by using the code “madness”.

As for Milkboy, it’s simply one of the best bars in the city. A terrific selection of beer, the gate doors open when it gets warm outside, and be sure to try the Korean BBQ Steak Sandwich. They are also opening a 2nd location soon on South Street.

2nd Place: $50 gift cert to O’Neals, which is where a bunch of us gather the first Friday afternoon of each tournament and watch the games. It’s a great tradition, and if any of you want to join us, please feel free. Great service, every single game  on their various TVs, and always good specials.

3rd Place: $25 gift certificate to Locust Rendezvous. The Vous’ status as one of the best places in Philadelphia to watch a game is pretty firmly established at this point.

25th Place: $25 Gift Certificate to Founding Fathers. No bar in town has a higher percentage of their wall covered with TVs, and at tournament time it is a great place to grab the Philadelphia Athletic Club Tacos (which are terrific, and which I came up with the name for) and a cold beer and watch the games.

50th Place: $50 gift certificates to City Tap House. Another great place to watch the games and drink some incredible beers, with over 60 different beers on tap at any given time.

Free to enter, and lots of great prizes on the line!

New Podcast is Out, and It’s Hilarious

and-Josephine-28zjpsu

Downloads of our podcast are really starting to take off. I think we’ve got something really fun going on here. This latest episode has some of our funniest material ever, especially when we discuss Napoleon being two hours late for his wedding, and how our wives would have reacted. You can listen to it on iTunes here, or you can listen to it online here. You’ll also find the answer to the question of the week, as we talk about the early history of roller coasters. And be sure to follow us on Facebook.

Quadruple-header (sort of) Tonight!

alla spina

We kick it off with a quiz at the Comcast Center Markets at 5:30 p.m. $5 off anything you want to eat in the Market, and it’s BYOB. At 8 p.m., Carl hosts at Alla Spina, which has really started gaining some momentum these past few weeks. This is turning out to be a really good quiz. For the traditionalists out there, I’m still hosting at O’Neals, as I have been since the 1960s. Action starts at 8 p.m. And we wrap it all up at City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. Lots of quizzo action to get in on, and yes, all of it will count in the JGTSpI. See ya tonight!

Springvitational Starts This Week

springvite

A nice day out today. Seems like the perfect day to start the 6th Annual Springvitational. And so we will.  Same deal as usual: we’ll be giving out points for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. There will also be ways to score points by posting pics on Facebook. Points start accumulating tonight at Sidecar, and can be earned at every quiz on the JGT circuit, including Carl’s quiz at Alla Spina. The top 16 teams will earn an invite to the Big Event in May. Hope to see ya this week!

Charity Quizzo Friday Night!

unnamed-6

A very rare Friday night quiz at the American Pub Center Square at 1500 Market at 7 pm. We’re doing it for a great cause, and the winning team gets an AWESOME prize. Teams of up to 6 can play, and the winning team gets 6 tickets to see an upcoming Flyers game. The price tag to get in is $20, but that includes a 2-hour open bar (beer and wine), and I know the way you guys drink so that’s going to be a huge bargain.

The organization is the Kicking Cancer Foundation, and they run kickball tournaments to raise money for cancer research. All proceeds go to Fox Chase Cancer Research Center. In addition to their Kickball Tournament, they also have 4 fundraising events leading up to the tournament. Would love to get a good turnout for this and raise some money for a great charity. Action starts at 7.

Quiz Tonight

alla spina

Action starts at Alla Spina at 8 p.m. with Carl B Sure in charge. Great turnout last week. We really seem to be building some momentum down there. $2 off all craft beers. Deep dish pizza special. Be sure to check it out.

I’m at O’Neals at 8 p.m. Any team that can score 120 points or more and wins gets a $100 gift certificate.

On to City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. $100 for first place, and it’s anybody’s ballgame. Hope to see ya tonight!

Happy February 30th!

Screen Shot 2016-03-01 at 2.19.48 PM

Perhaps I got a bit ahead of myself. We won’t have a February 30th until next year. That is, IF you join the revolution. While doing some research the other day about February 30th (because hey, why not?) I stumbled across the World Calendar Association. I am now going to bestow upon you the link to this most incredible website.

They had me sold hook, line and sinker. And so this week’s podcast is about the World Calendar movement, and how we can start a revolution that will render the Gregorian calendar obsolete (Finally!) It’ sonly about 16 minutes long, it’s very funny AND it has the answer to this week’s Question of the Week.
