Fundraiser Tonight

daveneefinal

An interesting night tonight. I’ll actually be kicking off at McGillin’s at 6 p.m. We’re doing a fundraiser for the Dave Nee Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to take away the stigma associated with depression and encourage those battling with depression to seek help. This is a great program I’m happy to be a part of. And with my buddy (well, pretty much everybody’s buddy) Anthony Riley succumbing to depression this past week, this cause really hits home. If you are available to play tonight and want to contribute to a great cause (there’s a large trophy for the winners), or just want to donate, you can click here.

Dave was a brilliant guy- a great poker player and a lover of trivia. He graduated from Loomis Chafee and Princeton before attending Fordham Law School. Dave would read anything and did read almost everything. His favorites included Plainsong by Kent Haruf, For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway, and Graham Greene’s work. Between the History Channel and Dave’s various books on war and presidents, he was a walking encyclopedia: impossibly comprehensive and impressively impenetrable. He analyzed everything from the makings of a perfect sandwich to the semantics of a well-told joke to Civil War generals’ psyches. Dave craved long debates and marathon sessions of philosophical exchange. He listened to Johnny Cash religiously and also loved Taj Mahal, Hank Williams, and the soundtracks from Quentin Tarantino movies.

All proceeds from the trivia night benefit the Dave Nee Foundation. The friends and family of Dave Nee established The Dave Nee Foundation in 2006 in the aftermath of his death by suicide. A charismatic and brilliant law student, Dave Nee did not share his struggles with depression. The foundation was established to reduce the stigma of mental illness and encourage those struggling to get help, while encouraging friends and family on how to be proactive and supportive. Our mission is to eliminate the stigma associated with depression and suicide by promoting and encouraging not only the diagnosis and treatment of depression among young adults, but also the education of young people, their families, and friends about the disease of depression.

Quizzo Tonight

Action starts at the Rendezvous at 6:15. Last week was really strange. Quietest night we’ve had in years. If you’ve had problems getting a table there before, now might be the time. Looks like we might get a little quieter for summer.

On to Founding Fathers at 8:30. It’s been a madhouse and no reason to see it change this week. Hope to see ya tonight!

Quizzo Tonight

We kicked off the Summer Invitational last night with a very amusing quiz. Mystery rounds are always a bit of fun, and the music round was quite interesting as well. We’ll do it again tonight, starting at the Comcast Center at 5:30 p.m. $5 vouchers off food in the market, and it’s BYO. We’ve had a lot of fun with these lately.

O’Neals at 8 p.m. $3.50 margaritas and a $100 gift card if any team can top 110 points.

On to the Tap House at 10:15 p.m. As long as it doesn’t rain, we’re gonna do this one al fresco. Tough to beat quizzo outdoors. See ya tonight!

Summer Invite Starts Tonight

summerinvite2015

We ran a little late with the Spring Invite, so we’ve got a quick turnaround to the Summer Invite. Same deal as before, though this time we’ll add a few wrinkles, including a prize for regular season champ. Action starts tonight at the North Star at 7 p.m. On to Sidecar at 9:30 p.m.

We’ve had a lot of upsets the past two weeks. Will be interesting to see if it continues this week. Expect a Mystery Round tonight.  See ya then.

Quizzo at Bards Tonight

Hey gang, no quiz at Industry tonight. They’ve got their 3rd year anniversary party going down (which you’re still welcome to attend.) We’ll be back in business next Thursday.

We will be throwing down at the Bards however. Action starts at 9, with a couple of rounds based very loosely on Beer Week. See ya tonight!

Hey kids, just to let you know we will be taking a week off from the Industry as they are having their 3rd anniversary party tomorrow night. Congrats to the whole gang. You are welcome to attend the celebration party going down tomorrow night. As part of Beer Week, they’ll have the gang from Yards there. Sounds like a lot of fun. Party starts at 7 p.m. We’ll be back in business next week.

Quizzo Tonight

We get the ball rolling at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. You know the deal. Great competition, great beer prices, great service.

On to Founding Fathers at 8:30 p.m. We’ve been rocking and rolling there lately. Dale’s Pale Ale on special. Speaking of beer, with this being Beer Week I’d expect a few beer questions. See ya tonight!

Back In Business Tonight

We’re back at it tonight. After taking last week off for Memorial Day, we’re back at North Star at 7 p.m. The new chef is terrific and the new menu is great. Definitely worth checking out.

On to Sidecar at 9:30 p.m. The competition is wide open. Anybody’s ballgame. Hope to see you guys tonight!

Well this it, your last shot at glory on Sunday. We’ve actually had four wild card winners in 5 quizzes so far this week. This Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll quiz is hard, I’ll warn you now, but that seems to be a great equalizer.

We kick it off at Industry at 6:30. You know the deal: great food, $3 craft beers, terrific service. Really just an awesome place to quiz.

On to the Bards at 9:15. It’s been rather wide open lately. Anybody’s ballgame. Great shot of earning a win. And it’s a new quiz, so if you played on Monday or Tuesday and want a second shot at making Sunday’s Big Event, you can play again tonight. See ya soon!
