Koob and Kristy will be hosting their pop culture quizzo at the Khyber at 7 p.m. It’s a great quiz, and tonight all questions will be about the 1990s (including a music round). Furthermore, I had someone tell me that they took my recommendation on the Khyber having the best BLT ever and tried it…and agreed that it was mind-blowing. Keep in mind, there are usually only about 3 teams and a $50 gift certificate. Translation: if you bring a good team to the Khyber tonight, you can probably eat an awesome dinner for free. And if you don’t believe me that the food is awesome, check out this tremendous review in the Philadelphia Weekly. Yes, you read correctly, they have bacon grease popcorn.

On to the Westbury, where I regret to inform you that it appears that tonight will be the final Westbury quiz. As much as I busted Mike’s chops about hosting such a difficult quiz, this was still one of the best quizzes in the city, and he brought in a good regular crowd. Sorry that this one isn’t continuing on (I also discovered through Mike’s quiz that the Westbury is a great bar, and has some of the best drink specials around), and hope Mike finds a new Monday night quiz soon. There is a piece in this month’s Philly Mag that features a few lines from me talking about the Phils. (Of course, the topless shot of the woman who tried to sell her body for tickets is causing a bit more buzz than Philly’s favorite quizmaster. Topless crazy women always steal my thunder!) Nonetheless, I do want to thank Philly Mag for running this piece, and more importantly, for airbrushing me so I look like I have muscles. But something kind of funny to note in the piece: I am described as a hipster. I’ve always thought of hipsters as people who wear tight jeans, never laugh, and listen to crappy indie rock like Belle and Sebastian. Am I wrong? Do hipsters wear ugly sportcoats and host trivia at bars? I’m so confused. Vote below and let me know: am I a hipster?

Koob and Kristy will be hosting an ALL MUSIC QUIZ tonight at the Khyber at 7 p.m. Furthermore, let me say this about the Khyber: I had a fried green tomato BLT sandwich there last week that was hands down the best BLT I’ve ever had. Great beers on tap, and terrific beer specials during quizzo. Action starts upstairs at 7 p.m.

On to the Westbury at 9 p.m. While the quiz will not be All-Music, Mike has assured me that there will be no basketball round tonight, so as to stave off revolt. There are also rumors of a Saved by the Bell round. My team (the Anti-Popes) proved last week that Group W is beatable, particularly if you poach one of their best players. Both bars offer a great shot to score JGTSpI points. There is no front-runner at the Khyber, and Mike will be giving out bonus JGTSpI points at the Westbury. Hope you can make it out tonight.

I told you that the final $50 would be announced after the games started, and I think it’s gonna be pretty fun. Whoever finishes 50th is gonna win the $50 gift certificate to Plough and the Stars. If there is a tie, it will go to whoever wins the tiebreaker in the championship game.

In case you folks haven’t noticed yet, there is a super easy way to score some points in the JGTSpI that you are not going to want to pass up. All you need to do is to get a picture of yourself in a piece of clothing with a name or logo of a team that is in the NCAA tournament on it…and considering that Temple, Nova, and Penn State are all in the tourney, it shouldn’t be tough to do. Just post the pics to the JGT facebook page. You can earn up to 4 points this way, and with a couple of other physical challenges up right now as well, you can earn a total of 8 points by friday. When you keep in mind that a) there will be a sweet prize for the team with the most physical challenge points and that b) the top 10 teams in the JGTSpI will be eligible for a $100 bonus prize drawing, this physical challenge is a must do. If you are looking to get away from the madness and enjoy St. Patrick’s Day away from the hordes of Visigoths that will be in the streets tonight, come on down to Ugly American. 8 p.m. The b-ball games will be on, we’ll give away some fries, we’ll laugh, we’ll cry. And best of all…this and O’Neals are currently the two bars where you’ll have your best shot of earnign some points in the JGTSpI. Keep in mind, we played the Bards quiz last night, so there will be no Bards quiz tonight. And yes, there will be plenty of Irish questions and music tonight!

We head into Week 2 of the JGTSpI tonight. We start out at O’Neals at 8 p.m. Been kind of hit or miss the past few weeks, with no clear cut favorite. One of the best spots to go if you’re looking to score a few points in the Invitational. $50 GC for the winner ain’t too shabby either. We move to City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. The Penn kids are back in town, so I expect a nice sized crowd tonight at the CTH. That said, it is also a good place to get your points on the board, as again there are no clear cut favorites. Winner walks with a $100 GC. In Manayunk, Mike Minion returns to the Terrace Taproom tonight at 8.

There is no quiz at the Raven with Koob and Kristy this week. I did play their quiz last night at the Khyber, and it was great. Furthermore, the Khyber menu is awesome now. The Fried Green Tomato BLT I got was quite honestly the best BLT I’ve ever had in my life. They’ll return next Monday at 8. Hope to see ya tonight!
