A few days ago, we presented the expert’s picks for Best Place to Watch the Phillies Play. Needless to say, we received a lot of feedback and lot of people angry that their watering hole didn’t make the list. Therefore, we are offering up two polls on the site. In one, you’ll vote for your favorite bar that made the expert’s list, in the other you’ll vote for the best one of the People’s Picks. Come Monday, we’ll take the top 5 and put them in the finals. Rock the vote, and spread the word!

On iSportacus, we’re dedicating our week to finding the best spots in Philly to watch the city’s best team play. First we asked a panel of experts and came up with a top ten list, now we’re asking you (the petty bourgeoisie) for your opinions on the matter. Well, folks, we’re going full circle. I started hosting quizzo as a way to try to break into radio, and after several years, I’m finally getting that chance. After nagging them weekly for years, I think the head honchos at WIP finally gave me a latenight (2-6 a.m.) slot just to make me go away. Squeaky hinge gets the grease, I suppose. I will be also writing on the WIP website, and the crazy hours make doing radio, writing, and hosting quizzo all but impossible. Sadly, quizzo is the one that’s got to go. I’m sure I’ll have a more emotional goodbye in a couple of weeks, when I host my last quiz, but for now I just wanted to share the news.

I will still be hosting a Quizzo Bowl annually, so nothing will change there, and though it’s not yet finalized, it looks like Mike Minion will be taking over several of my quizzes. This is not an immediate departure. I will host two more weeks of quizzo before I step down, and the radio show will not debut until April 15th. That’s right folks, we’re doing it again. The JGT/iSportacus Bracket-tacular has become an annual event that causes me even more stress right before Quizzo Bowl is one of the highlights of the year. Just click here and enter the password goodtimes (group # is 83655). You need to get a yahoo account to play (It’s simple, takes 5 minutes) and the winner walks away with $100 in gift certificates to local restaurants. 2nd place hauls in $50. So get your picks in, then stand by and get slaughtered. My 95th place finish last year was a mirage. I went with my heart instead of my brain. This year I’ve crunched the numbers and studied the game film, and am guaranteeing a first place finish.  Eat ’em and smile.

Want to take a moment to acknowledge a feather in the cap for our sports site. iSportacus.com was named “Best Phillies Coverage” by the Philadelphia Weekly. In a city whose baseball blogs include Phillies Nation, Beerleaguer, and We Should Be GMs, this is a pretty big honor and, quite frankly, a pretty big upset. Nonetheless, we are flattered. BMT and I have put a lot of effort into the site and it’s nice to know that a few people are noticing. Not a whole lot of baseball on the site now, but I can assure you we are both anxiously awaiting opening day and will stop caring about curling and Eddie Jordan as soon as the first pitch is thrown. And don’t worry, PW, I’m going to let your choice of Irish John as Best Quizmaster slide in the merriment of the moment.

With a hockey team that is on hiatus and a basketball team that is simply awful, we have been focused on the Winter Olympics. I think we’ve got some pretty good, original coverage.
