Everything You Need to Know About the JGTSI V

diving

WHO: Teams that earned an invite by scoring the most points over the past 8 weeks, as well as teams that earned a wild card slot.

WHAT: The 5th Annual Summer Invitational,  one of the four majors on the JGT Quizzo Circuit. (the others being Autumn and Spring Invitationals, as well as Quizzo Bowl).

WHEN: Sunday, August 24th at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Field House (1150 Filbert).

WHY: Why not? A great chance for the regulars to get together, have a few cold ones, answer a few question, and listen to some good tunes.

DID YOU SAY TUNES? Yes, the Tom Moon Trio will be playing jazz between rounds.

WHAT’S THE COVER? $10 a pop. PER TEAM? No, per person. Gotta pay for the band and for prizes. It’ll be well worth it.

WILL IT BE FUN? Gee, I dunno, quizzo, live music, great drink and food specials, big prizes…Of course it will be fun!

WHAT’S THE TEAM MAX? 8 players.

I WANNA GO BUT DIDN’T MAKE THE CUT. CAN I? Yes! You can’t bring a full team but several teams will be short of 8 players, so if you and a friend or two want to attend, I’d be happy to team you up with a crew that needs a couple of players.

Final JGTSI Scores

summerquiz

Here ya go. We are all wrapped up, and here are our scores. Teams in yellow in line for a bonus prize, teams in orange made the cut. Teams in green are on the bubble (if any teams ahead of them decline their invite, they’ll get one). And if you’re in blue, don’t worry. You’ve got one last chance this week. It’s wild card week. Every team that wins gets an automatic invite.

As for the event itself, those who made the cut will get an invite soon. It will go down this Sunday at 5:30 and feature great specials and live music. Details coming soon.

Sports Shorts

Just got a new batch of Eagles gear in at the store, located on 137 South 13th Street, between Walnut and Sansom. If you plan on buying Eagles gear for the upcoming season, I hope you’ll grab it from us. We’ve got a terrific selection of great looking shirts and hats. And we’re currently running a sale on this throwback Eagles hat. $25 and free shipping. You won’t find a better deal than this online for a hat of this quality. Just use the code “hat” when you checkout to get free shipping.

I also wrote a piece in Philly Mag this week about why the Phillies stink and we need to try to get the A’s back in town. Best thing I’ve written in a while. Worth a read if you’re a baseball fan.

Speaking of baseball, let’s go Taney Dragons! The Philly Little League team has advanced to the finals of their region and with a win on Sunday would advance to Williamsport. Even cooler? Their best pitcher is a girl. Several members of the team are on the Anderson Monarchs, who people in the G-Ho area are well aware of, as they play on that beautiful field at 18th and Fitzwater. The regional final will be on ESPN2 on Sunday at 6 p.m., so be sure to tune in and root on Philly!

JGTSI Scores With One Week Left To Play

summerquiz

Here ya go, your scores with one week left to play. If you need points, I’ve got good news, I just posted a physical challenge on facebook…up to 5 points for posting pics of yourself in the 90s. As for the Big Event, it will be taking place on August 24th at the Field House. More details coming soon. We’ll wrap up scoring next week, then have our wild card week the week before.

Quizzo at the Oval on Saturday

unnamed-12

Gonna be back at the Eakins Oval on Saturday (and each of the next few Saturdays) with an all new quiz. Last week’s theme was summer, and was won by Keepin It Clean (above). This week’s theme will be Philadelphia. Had a HUGE turnout last week. Expecting another good one tomorrow. It’s worth checking out the beer garden. Really a cool spot to hang out. Action starts at 4 p.m.

The Dude Hates Cancer Week Next Week!

lebowski

Hey gang, Quizzo for the Cause returns next week as we raise funds for The Dude Hates Cancer. If you love the Big Lebowski and hate cancer, then next week is gonna be a great one. We’ll have raffles, White Russians, and a round on the Big Leobowski at each quiz (though NOT an entire Lebowski quiz). If you’ve never seen the Big Lebowski, this weekend is the perfect time to do so. One of the best movies ever. All of the funds we raise will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Look forward to seeing you next week!

JGTSI Scores After 5 Weeks

summerquiz

Here are your scores after 5 weeks. We’re now in the thick of it. Five weeks down, four to go. Still time to get your team in the mix, but you better do it soon if you want to earn an invite to the Big Event on August 24th.

Your best chances to win are once again at bars where I’m giving double points again this week. O’Neals and Industry. And remember, you can play twice in a week. I do one quiz for Monday-Tuesday and another for Wednesday-Thursday. So you’ve got two chances per week to get on the board. I’m also gonna post more trivia on the facebook page this week.

Allagash Beer Tasting, Presentation by CSN’s Sarah Baicker Next Friday

sarah-baicker-hockey

We’ve got a great event going down next Friday at Shibe Sports. We’re gonna kick it off with a beer tasting by the lovely Ginger, who is now a rep for Allagash. While enjoying some of their awesome beers (for free, you cheap bastards frugal consumers!), Comcast Sportsnet reporter Sarah Baicker will talk about being a woman in a male dominated profession, and also about a pretty fascinating team that used to call Philly home in the 1920s, the Philadelphia Bobbies. We’ll also be unveiling our new Reggie White shirt at the event. Beer starts pouring at 6 p.m. Hope to see you there!
