Final JGTAI Scores

Here they are, the scores at the end of the JGTAI. Teams in yellow are the teams that made the cut. There are always a few teams who decline the honor, so teams in blue are almost certainly going to get an invite, but not until I have gotten declined invites. Now, if your team did not make the cut and you still want to participate in Sunday’s event, there is still hope. It is now wild card week. Any team finishing first or 2nd will earn an automatic invite to Sunday’s event. Live music and great drink and food specials, and big prizes for the winners. Your best chance to finish first or 2nd? Definitely North Star tonight. After that, your best bet to get a win would be O’Neals, City Tap House, or Ugly American. Gonna be a fun event. More details coming this afternoon to teams who made the cut.

Frazier Vs. Rocky

Here’s the latest piece I did for the Philly Post, on the death of Joe Frazier. I know it sounds like I’m hating on Rocky. I’m not, I think it’s a pretty damn good film (the first one, at least). I just think it’s a shame that we lavished so much praise on him and more or less ignored a guy who represented everything we claim to love. To watch the Thrilla in Manila between Frazier and Ali, click here.

In case you missed it: I did a piece earlier this week about our stangest and most interesting mayors. Last week, I did one on the raven that inspired both Dickens and Poe.

All New Food and Drink Quiz Tonight

An interesting quiz so far this week. The “Cheese Round” had a lot of fans and just as many haters.  We’ll see how folks do tonight with an all-new quiz. And remember, this is the last quiz before JGTAI invites go out. If you want to participate in the quizzo event of the season, I highly suggest you play tonight. Your best bet for a win? The Ugly American, where the action will begin at 8 p.m. $2 Lagers and $3 Kenzingers. We move to the Bards, who also have $3 fries. Kickoff is 10:15 p.m. Hope to see ya tonight!

JGT Power Rankings

Here are the power rankings heading into this week’s action (before Tuesday night’s quiz).

1. Steak Em Up (Bards) After a few weeks floundering, they win 3 in one week. As much as it pains me to admit, impressive. Last week: #7

2. Madame Butterface (Locust Rendezvous) Any team that goes back to back at our toughest bar gets a major bump in the rankings. Two in a row for Butterface. Last week: #4

3. Duane’s World (Black Sheep). An impressive 19 point win at the Sheep keeps them holding steady at #3. Last week: #3

4. Philliez Nutz (Bards). It’s worth noting that none of Steak’s wins last week were against their achilles heel, the Nutz. Steak played at UA, while the Nutz won their 3rd in 4 weeks at the Bards. Last week: NR

5. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics (Ugly American). A 108 will normally get you a win at UA, but now when the Steak shows up for a quiz in their wheelhouse. Last week: #3

6. Savage Ear (O’Neals). A triumphant return to the bar they ran for years. My angry emails to the Toddfather finally were answered. Last week: NR

7. Do It Live (CTH). A win two weeks ago and 2nd place last week. This team looks to be for real. Last week: #8

8. The Jams (Vous). An impressive performance last week, finishing 2nd with 3 players. I expect this team to start one of their vaunted hot streaks very soon.Last week: #9

9. Fracksylvania (Black Sheep). A week after a win at North Star, they go into Black Sheep and come away with a 2nd place finish. This team is on fire! Last week: #13

10. Queen of Hearts (Bards). A win two weeks ago and a loss by one question this past week. Don’t look now, but the Bards is starting to re-establish itself as a serious quizzo spot. Last week: #13

11. Mysterious Mr. Mapother (O’Neals). A 2nd place and a 3rd place finish in one week. Their not setting any records, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of either. Last week: NR

12. Magnus ver Magnusson. (Rendezvous) Keep waiting for them to snap out of this slump. After 3 straight wins in August, only one win in past 10 quizzes. Last week: NR
