Doubling the Bounty at Bards

money_1Perhaps the only person who hates seeing those fire-breathing nerds who emerge from their mother’s basements twice a week to play quizzo (aka Steak Em Up) more than you is me. Therefore, I am imploring you to beat those computer-programming, morally derelict, Andrew Gold listening ninkumpoops this Tuesday. And to make sure that you bring your A-team, I am doubling the bounty. That’s right, no more child’s play. A $40 bonus to the team that can knock them off on Tuesday night and finish first. That in addition to the $40 gift certificate. That’s right, $80 for any team that can knock off the Steak and land in first place.

You want to know how morally corrupt these couscous eaters are? After absorbing the best players from their top two challengers (Hurtin Bombs and Western Omelette) they are now talking about splitting up just long enough to claim the bounty. I will not allow that happen, of course, but I think it just shows you what kind of unethical homo-erectuses we’re dealing with here. I suspect that, as you are reading this, they are all investing in BP and rooting for Kobe to have a great NBA Finals. They must be stopped and you must stop them. Tuesday. 10:15 p.m. Bring it.

French Fry Thursday…with a Bounty

frenchfryAs if the potential for free fries wasn’t enough to bring you out to quizzo tonight, we’ve sweetened the pot at the Bards, as any team that knocks off Steak Em Up will get $20 cash in addition to their $40 gift certificate. Not a bad deal. Speaking of good deals, all Lagers and Miller Lites are $2.50 at the Bards as well. Action starts at 10:15 p.m. Not to be outdone, our earlier quiz at the Ugly American features $1 off all drafts, and action starts at 8 p.m. Hope to see you tonight!

Gonzo Quiz on Monday!

gonzosundance

Hey folks, just a quick note to let you know that I will be doing a special Gonzo quiz at the POPE (Pub on Passyunk East, 1501 East Passyunk) on Monday night at 9 p.m. to help celebrate Beer Week. The event is being sponsored by Flying Dog Beer, which I am very excited about. Not only is it a great beer, but its artwork is done by Ralph Steadman, the same Ralph Steadman who drew so many iconic “gonzo” images while acting as artist for Hunter S. Thompson’s crazed tales. Thus the inspiration for a “Gonzo Quizzo” night. What does Gonzo quizzo during Beer Week entail? I’d expect a fair helping of questions about Hunter S. Thompson, about beer, about famous Dogs, about Las Vegas, and probably even a question or two about a certain Muppet. Should make for a hell of an entertaining quiz. Hope to see you there.

JGT Power Rankings

powerranks(These are power rankings heading into this week’s play, not counting Monday or Tuesdays results this week. Those will be counted in next week’s Rankings.)

  1. Steak Em Up. Sick of their rampage through the Bards, I have an announcement forthcoming about next Tuesday’s quiz that should get some more hounds on their tails. Last week: #1
  2. The Jams. An easy win at the Vous last week keeps them in the 2-hole. Last week: #2
  3. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics. May have won on Thursday if I hadn’t of steered them wrong on a question. In a pathetic grovelling gesture to them, (and because all the other teams ranked #3 to #10 all lost) their consolation prize is a significant bump in the rankings. Last week: #8
  4. Satan’s Minions. Could be a perennial contender, but don’t play enough as a team. Gotta admit, it was a wonderful blast from the past to hear Howard yelling “Eight! Eight!” every time I announced the weekly double. Last week: NR
  5. Inglorious Barristers. Perhaps the best dressed team on the circuit, the Barristers style and profile up one spot in the rankings with a 2nd place finish at the Vous. Last week: #6
  6. Insert Topical Team Name Here. Pull of a huge upset at the Ugly American on Thursday. After months of tinkering, has this team finally created the right formula for a consistent threat to L. Ron’s power? Last week: NR
  7. Phillie RNs. Two straight weeks of upsets have wreaked havoc on the JGT QCS computer. The Phillie RNs come out of nowhere to pull a monster upset at O’Neals and climb back into the rankings. Last week: NR
  8. Duane’s World. Ouch! Blowout losses at Westbury and Black Sheep slide Duane’s World down to the 8 slot. Last week: #3
  9. Look Up Look Down Now I’m a Horse. A third place finish at the Bards drops them down the rankings a few notches. Perhaps they can get back near the top with an impressive drink-off win this Thursday. Last week: #5
  10. Why Can’t Us. With Audra moved on to greener pastures, the two remaining ladies are still able to finish in the Top 3 at UA. Last week: #7

Others receiving votes: Claudia Kishi Fan Club, Tooth Wind and Fire, Go Go Gadget Top Kill, 1022, Team Friendship, The Sandy Faux-Ginas, 4th Estate, Narcotyzing Dysfunktion, Magnus ver Magnusson, Team Friendship

Programming Note

jgt3

Hey kids, just a quick note about tonight. First off, we are ON for the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. sharp. Want to be done by 7:45 so there is plenty of time for people to get Flyered up. (Hockey game doesn’t start until 8 p.m.) There is no quizzo at Black Sheep tonight due to the game. We’ll resume next week at 8 p.m. If you normally play at Black Sheep, I’d encourage you to take the opportunity to check out a change of venue. $1 corn dogs at Ugly American and a $15 Bounty at the Bards (meaning $55 for the winners) tomorrow night. If you are going to try to play tonight at the Vous, I would highly advise you to make reservations. I think we’re going to have a pretty good sized crowd. Oh, and the question of the day still hasn’t been answered on facebook.

$155 on the Line on Big Money Tuesday!

BOUNTYYes, folks, there is a $20 Bounty on for tonight at the Bards tonight. That means that the winning team gets a $40 gift certificate plus $20 cash if they can knock off Steak Em Up. Action there starts at 10:15 p.m. Of course, it’s not the only big money on the line tonight. The prize money took a significant jump recently at O’Neals, with the winning team walking with $50, and 2nd place walking with $25. Action starts there are 8 p.m. Hope to see you tonight! (Oh, and there are also rumors of a Mystery Round).
