What group had hits with the songs, “I’ll Take You There” and “Respect Yourself”?
Autumn Invitational Starts Tonight!
Old Fashioned Baseball This Weekend
Thought that no Philadelphia baseball teams had a shot to win a title this year? Think again. The Athletic Club of Philadelphia will be taking on teams from all across the region in the grand old game of Base-Ball. Playing by rules set down in 1864, they will take on all comers at the Navy Yard this weekend. In addition to the baseball, Shibe Sports will have a table set up with our gear at sale prices, as well as a couple of brand new shirts for sale, and there will be BBQ offered by Phoebe’s and ice cream from Franklin Fountain. Games run from 10-4 both Saturday and Sunday.
CHeck out this interview I just did with the President of the Athletic Club of Philadelphia to learn more about baseball 150 years ago. And go here to learn more about the event itself. I’ll be down there both days, so if you want to hang out and watch some baseball, come on down!
Win a $100 Gift Cert in the Shibe Survivor Pool!
We’re gonna be giving away a $100 gift certificate to our store with a Survivor Pool. (Use the password Shady) Here’s how it works: you pick one game each week where you think you know the winner. If your team wins, you move on. If your team loses, you’re done. The next week, you pick a new team (you can’t pick the same team twice) that you are sure is going to win.
Whatever team can go the most weeks without picking a loser wins the $100 gift cert. It’s totally free to play. Get your picks in by noon on Sunday.
And if you’re looking to score some Eagles gear, be sure to swing by our store. If you haven’t been yet, I promise you, you are really going to dig it. We’ve got awesome stuff for sale, and our Eagles shirts and hats are terrific. The store is located on 13th Street between Walnut and Sansom (137 South 13th Street), and you can also find us online at shibesports.com.
French Fry Thursday
Action starts at Industry at 6:30 p.m. Been a fairly mellow week (as it normally is off a Monday holiday), and I suspect it will be rather mellow tonight. Could be a good chance to get a win. $3 craft beer special each week and terrific hamburgers.
On to Bards at 9 p.m. No Jesters of Tortuga this week, so it’s anybody’s ballgame. (Same quiz from earlier this week. Back to our normal schedule next week). And yes, the NFL game will be on at both bars. Hope to see ya tonight!
Quizzo Tonight
Action starts at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. They are having a $2 “Mystery Beer” this week which strikes me as rather exciting. I think they should also offer a deal: it’s $2 if you just get the beer no questions asked, it’s free if you guess what beer it is, and it’s $4 if your guess is wrong. That would be awesome.
On to the Black Sheep at 8:15 p.m. No mysteries there.
Worth noting: there is only one quiz this week. Sorry, but I was in the car for 10 hours yesterday and I’m working at the store today, so I just don’t have time to write another one. Next week, we will return to our regularly scheduled program, with a question of the week, 2 quizzes, etc. The Autumn Invitational will be kicking off next week as well.
There WILL Be a Quiz at North Star on Monday
There WILL be a quiz at North Star on Labor Day (there will not be one at Sidecar.) Action will start at 7 p.m. and it will be hosted by the Sandman. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
French Fry Thursday Tonight!
We kick it off at Industry at 6:30 p.m. Probably gonna be a bit quiet before the holiday, so this is a great opportunity to get a win. $3 craft beer specials, terrific food, and typically plenty of parking nearby. Great bar, highly worth checking out if you haven’t been lately.
On to Bards at 9 p.m. $3 Lagers and the legendary Michael behind the bar. We’ll have french fry faceoff and Name That Tune candy giveaways at both bars. Hope to see ya tonight!
Quizzo Tonight
You know the deal. Rendevous at 6:15. Black Sheep at 8 p.m. See ya tonight!
No Question of the Week This Week
Question of the week is on vacation this week. However, today is Pee Wee Herman’s birthday. So that may come into play at some point at tonight’s quiz.
