Geek Bowl Smack Talk and Quizzo Tonight


Well, I’m off to Albuquerque for Geek Bowl IX, the 2nd most prestigious Quiz Bowl in America. (First I’m going to Denver, then taking a bus down to the ABQ. I’m hosting quizzo on the bus.) I’m actually teaming up with a couple who used to play at North Star and have since moved to Denver at the Geek Bowl. Of course, Philly also has our “A” team going, the one that won a couple of years ago. Then on Sunday we’re headed to Santa Fe because that’s the “cool” New Mexico city.

So the Sandman is hosting tonight and on Monday (Thanks to waiting until the last minute, I’ve gotta fly into NYC Monday night and take the train down.) Pretty interesting music round tonight. All Football Quizzo on Sunday!

Think there’s no football this Sunday besides the lame Pro Bowl? Think again! There’s gonna be an All-Pro football quizzo at Founding Fathers Sports Bar & Grill at 5:30 on Sunday, hosted by Shibe co-owner Johnny Goodtimes. In addition to testing your pigskin knowledge, there will also be various $4.50 craft beers and $5 Nachos and Quesadillas. Most questions will be from the Super Bowl era. Gonna be a lot of fun, and you might learn a thing or two. (As far as questions asked: almost all NFL, lots of Super Bowl questions, with perhaps a few USFL and “Where did so and so play in college?” type questions. But far and away mostly NFL). $100 for 100 Points at O’Neals; Free Money Faceoff at City Tap

We kick it off tonight at O’Neals, where we’ll be trying something new…instead of our normal $50 gift cert for the winners, we’ll be giving out $100 to the winning team…if they can score 100 or more points. (the double prize activates if we get 25 or more players tonight, so be sure to bring your full squad.) Apps during quizzo are only $5, and Mexican beers are $3.50. Action starts at 8 p.m.

On to Tap House at 10:15 p.m., where we’ve kicked off the New Year with a new game…Free Money Faceoff, where players go head to head to see who can come away with a $10 gift certificate for their team. And of course we’ve got 2 for $20 pizzas and $3 Gansetts. See ya tonight!

Yes, we are on for tonight. Action starts at North Star at 7 p.m. On to Sidecar at 9:30.

We’re also having a “100 point challenge” tomorrow night at O’Neals. Any team that scores 100 and wins, wins an extra $50 gift cert, making it “$100 for 100”. The only caveat is: we gotta get 30 people there for the challenge to activate. So get your crew out to O’Neals tmrw night at 8.
