Interesting Interview with Buddy Holly’s Guitarist

Today is Ritchie Valens birthday (he would be turning 68). He was not supposed to be on the plane on the Day the Music Died (my birthday, February 3). It was supposed to be Tommy Allsup, guitarist for Buddy Holly. But Valens was bugging him to take his spot, so finally he took out a coin and tossed it. Valens won the toss. In the video above, Allsup discusses the last concert at the Surf Ballroom.

Quizzo Tonight

Dorksided and Why’s John’s Rum Gone battle for Supremacy of O’Neals tonight, while Savage Henry tries to defend their crown from last week. Or is your team primed to make a move? Actions starts at 8 p.m. Then on to the Bards, where the Narcotyzing Dysfunktion is keeping it rather close with the Sofa Kingdom. Action starts at 10:15. There are also rumors of a possible Lambda and Axis of Evil Knieval sightings sometime this week. We shall see.

More Quizzo Stats

This is very cool. The quizzos I host on Tuesday and Wednesday are essentially the same quiz. (Sometimes I make minor corrections after O’Neals. It it’s too easy I make it harder, if it’s too hard I make it easier, but I rarely tweak more than one question.) So it’s pretty fair to compare the Jam’s scores with the Sofa Kingdom’s scores to Dorksided’s scores, etc. That’s what we’ve done here. Highest score from the four bars on Tuesday and Wednesday gets two points for a win, 2nd highest score between the 4 bars gets a single point. Points are then added up to see who the top teams are on that particular quiz. (Since we had a bit of an upheaval the past few months on Thursday, we did not do those, but we’ll start comparing Ugly American to the Bards Thursday as well.) I would like to give a HUGE shout out to John Edgar of Duane’s World, who compiled all of these stats so that we can compare scores, winning pct., etc. Here are your top ranked teams. Enjoy!

Quizzo News and Notes

Had a good time at the ballgame, then headed over to Collingswood to grab a grilled cheese at the Pop Shop, home of Trivia Art’s infamous “Explosion of taste in my mouth” line. Had a real good grilled cheese. As for quizzo, we got a brand new one kicking off tonight at the Ugly American (Front and Federal.) at 7:30 p.m. Gonna be interesting to see how it turns out. All draft beers will be $1 off during quizzo, and they’ve got a great selection. Then it’s onto the Bards at 10 p.m. Been a little quieter there lately now that Penn and Temple are done, so it’s gonna be easier to find a table tonight than it was a few months ago. Hope to see ya tonight!
