Back in Town, Quizzo Tonight

jgt3Hey kids, just got back in the big city after a harrowing trip to the Eastern Shore which nearly resulted in my untimely demise via lightning. Story forthcoming. In the meantime, celebrate life with me at quizzo tonight. We start at O’Neals at 8 p.m., where things have been pretty wide open as of late. A few regulars could get up on the Power Rankings if they make their triumphant return (Dorksided and Same Name as Last Week, I’m looking at you.)

As I’ve stated before, there is still a power vacuum at the Bards, where it has quickly gone from Sofa Kingdom -Hurtin Bombs-Dysfunktion lockdown to a pretty wide open competition. If your team is looking to make a name for itself, this could be the place to start. Action starts at 10:15 p.m. Hope to see you tonight!

The Mysterious Death of Warren G. Harding

President Warren G. HardingEveryone seems to have a  conspiracy theory surrounding the JFK assasination, and most people even know that mysterious circumstances surround the death of Zachary Taylor. But did you know that there are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the death of Warren G., which happened on August 3, 1923?

Within minutes of Warren G. Hardings death at either 7:10, 7:20, or 7:30 p.m. on August 2, 1923, rumors began to circulate. No one present at his demise could give the correct time of death. No one seemed to be sure who was on hand in the San Francisco hotel room when he breathed his last. Most of all, the four physicians who had been caring for Harding for the previous week could not agree on the cause of death. It had something to do with his heart. On the other hand, perhaps it was a stroke. Alternatively, it could have been both, exacerbated by the ptomaine poisoning that he may or may not have experienced a few days earlier in Vancouver. Despite the confusion over the time of death, surely an autopsy would resolve the uncertainty about what killed Warren G. Harding.

Except — there was no autopsy. Mrs. Harding — the Duchess, as her husband called her — would not permit it. Within an hour of his death, he was embalmed, rouged, powdered, dressed, and in his casket. By morning, he was on a train, headed back to Washington, D.C.

It is little wonder that newspaper reporters, servants, and minor attending officials speculated about the circumstances of the death of the 29th President of the United States. How could an event so important to the life of the nation be so shoddily handled? Or was there some secret, something about this death that needed covering up?

The entire affair was so bizarre that it was inevitable that conspiracy theories arose. Was it suicide? If so, why? Was it murder? If so, who did it?

Quizzo Tonight

We kick it off at the Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. Perhaps the best beer and drink specials in Center City. Then we move on to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Been a solid crowd there the last few weeks, but not too crazy. Get there by 7:30 and you should be able to get a table (but no guarantees!) Hope to see ya tonight!

Are Eagles Fans Ruining Baseball in this Town? Are Robbers Ruining Quizzo?

Just posted something on isportacus I thought you might be interested in. I asked if, after the tragic events of this Saturday in which a man was murdered just outside the ballpark, it seems like the fans at the Citizens Bank this year are a little bit more intense, more like football fans than baseball fans. Would love to hear your input. Of course, I suppose you could also ask if quizzo is more violent these days. A bar in the Northeast just got robbed last night during quizzo.

Off to the Franklin

I’m off to take the kids from the summer program to the Franklin Institute, where they’ll whine about the fact that they have friends who get to take field trips to Six Flags. But then I’ll say, “Well those friends won’t have an opportunity to spend time in a planetarium then, will they?” which will be followed by the rolling of their eyes and a muttering under their breath of, “You corny, Coach Rome.” Nonetheless, I’ll be out of commission until this afternoon, when I’ll get your stinking photos up on the site. In the meantime, our good friend the Lovely Ginger will be guest editing at Foobooz, as Trivia Art is kicking it in Portland, Maine this weekend. And you can read about the time I got dunked on, if you haven’t done so already. I’ll catch ya this afternoon.

$25 Bounty Bowl Tonight

Hey kids, just a quick reminder that there will be a Bounty Bowl at the Ugly American tonight. L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics have won 6 straight weeks, and must be destroyed. Action kicks off at 8 p.m. sharp. On to the Bards at 10:15 p.m. During the summer, the Bards is without question the best place to grab a full table. It is also pretty wide open, as several of the top teams have lost key players or are taking the summer off. Now’s your turn to shine. $2.50 Sam Adams during quizzo, and the Phils game will be on. Hope to see ya tonight.

Quizzo Tonight

Here’s how quizzo went last night: 2nd and 3rd rounds were tough, 4th round not so much. Be interesting to see how it shakes down tonight. It’s going down at 6:15 at the Rendezvous. Best beer specials in town. On to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m.

I recently got stats from first half of the year, and will try to have them up soon. But first I’ve got some pizza videos to work on. Working on Tacconelli’s now, adn will have it up this afternoon. Hope to have Celebre’s up by the end of the week. Stay tuned. In case you haven’t seen any of the videos yet, click here.
