If You Love Music, You Have to Play Quizzo Tonight

Two music rounds, one of which is one of my favorite rounds ever. A crazy quiz, with a geography round as well. This is a really, really fun quiz. Do not miss it. A couple of quick thoughts: first of all, be sure to get your question of the week. Secondly, if your team is looking for a win, North Star is probably your best shot. We’ve got some good teams so far, but no dominant team yet. If you are going to play at Sidecar, get there early. Way early. Like an hour to two hours early. Seriously. It’s that packed.

We kick it off at Ugly American at 8 p.m. $2 Lagers. You heard me right. On to the Bards at 10:15 p.m. $3 Lagers. We’ve been having a lot of fun at Bards lately, and getting great crowds. $3 fries at both spots. And I woke up with a bit of a sore throat this morning, so expect at least one picture round and TWO music rounds. See ya tonight!

Happy Birthday to Philadelphian Hubert Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorf

Hubert Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorf was a man with a last name that was 590 letters long (In the headline is the shortened version, you can hear the full version in the video above.) He was born in Hamburg, Germany (supposedly on February 29th, 1904) but emigrated to the US where he landed in Philly. He lived here and in 1952 had a son that he passed on the last name to. According to the Guiness book, he had the longest surname in the world. Does anyone know anything about his son? I’d love to know if he’s still in Philly.

Quizzo Tonight

We kick off at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m. The Jams have been on fire lately. Can you stop them? Be sure to call ahead to get a table. On to the Black Sheep at 8 p.m. It’s been quiet the last couple of weeks. Great chance to get a table. Interesting speed round tonight, and a wild card round dealing with television. Fairly easy quiz, judging by last night’s scores.

Went down to the courthouse today to do my civic duty, but apparently they’re not interested in Quizmasters named “Johnny Goodtimes” determining the fate of alleged criminals. Go figure. It’s a damn shame, because I was probably the only person there who really wanted to get selected (I love serving jury duty on criminal cases, plus since I work at night it doesn’t really mean I lose work.) But alas, I was dismissed and now it’s 2:30 and I’m back in front of my computer, trying to come up with witty things to say on facebook under the guise of “working”.

Anyways, we’ve got a couple of quizzes going down tonight, and they should be a lot of fun. First of all, a 50/50 round that I debuted on Thursday proved to be an instant classic. Also, there will be an Oscars wild card round. It’s gonna be a good quiz. And be sure to get your question of the week here.

We start at North STar at 7 p.m. $3 Kenzingers and half off hummus and mussels. On to the Sidecar, where we had a packed house last Monday and a damn good time. Dollar off all bitter beers. Action starts at 9:15 p.m. Hope to see ya tonight!

We start at O’Neals at 8 p.m. Yeah, I know it’s Mardi Gras but we’ve done it the past years and it’s not been a big deal. Might be a few tools who wander in but it’s usually fairly mellow. Parking may be a hassle, and there might be a few tools out on South Street, but otherwise it should be fine.

On to the City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. Big time prizes, and their famous $10 for a pizza and a Sly Fox special. Expect a few theatre questions tonight. See ya there!
